In July 2024, when the warmer weather hit here in *****, my wife tried to operate the a/c in our 2016 Honda Civic only to find out that it was blowing warm air and did not cool at all. Assuming the refrigerant was I looked under the hood for the exact specifications of the refrigerant I proceeded to order some **1234yf Enviro safe Arctic Air to top off the cooling system. I worked for nearly 2 weeks and then started to not cool again. I made an appointment on 08/15/2024 with CDA Honda. CDA Honda called back with the message that the entire A/C system is damaged and there is no more warranty, because you added R 152 , the wrong refrigerant into the system! I was extremely offended and angry about such an accusation. I told them what I had used and even went in to show them the receipt of the purchased product. It came with the charging hose that only fits for the **1234yf refrigerant but I was also told that that could be adapted to charge the system with other refrigerants. They said the machine they use at the shop to evacuate the refrigerant detected 100% R 152 in the system ??? There was NO R *************************** !Numerous online posts describe problems with the ** 1234yf refrigerants that is used in these cars about the damage that is has caused in a lot of cars such as pin holes in the condenser and metal shards that end up throughout the entire A/C system because of compressors blowing up or imploding. There is a lot of controversy about **1234yf refrigerants and the resulting damage to a/c systems. Our car had already experienced all these problems before adding refrigerant. The Honda dealership and service manager were not helping and kept telling me that the machine did not read the wrong code and that the WAS R ************************************************************************* there. I contacted the manufacturer and seller of the product and have affidavits.Business Response

After reviewing the complaint, I pulled the repair order and spoke with the technician who performed the work on your vehicle back in August of 2024 with ******* miles on the vehicle. We have no history of performing any work on air conditioning system prior to this date, so cannot determine how the contamination got into the system, but the system was contaminated. We have the latest A/C detection equipment provided by Honda. This equipment is very accurate on determining what we recover from an air conditioning system as well as what we put back into the system. This protects our equipment as well as the customer's air conditioning system. There is much data available showing the retail market is flooded with counterfeit refrigerants which is why this type of equipment is necessary. We did properly diagnose and repair your vehicle. It had leaking issues due to damage as well as the contamination, non of which would be covered by warranty. We stand by our repair and charges. If the system is not performing after our repairs, please schedule an appointment with our service department so we can determine the cause. We appreciate your business. Thank you.Customer Answer

Regarding your email from a few days ago I compiled all the documents that I presented to Coeur d'Alene Honda AND to Honda ****I hope we can get to some resolve on this matter and that I presented my case adequately. The fact was that the ** stopped blowing cold air so the damage at that point was done. I merely added the product rated for use on R1234yf systems after I carefully read the notice under the hood of the Honda Civic regarding the refrigerant to be used. There are lots of articles on the internet also about the fact that the R1234yf refrigerant causes a lot of issues and damages to ** systems especially in 2016 to 2018 Honda ***********************setdir="false" dir="ltr" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; font-size: 13px; font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-stretch: inherit; border: 0px; line-height: inherit;">Coeur d'Alene Honda accused me immediately, after they worked on the system to find out why the ** failed, of adding R152 refrigerant and contaminating the system. As per the manufacturers data sheet and response to my inquiry it is clear that the is none of that present in the product.Thank you again for you help, it is very much appreciated.Sincerely,Gerardus, ( ***** ), GoorenBusiness Response

The vehicle was brought into our shop for a diagnosis of Air Conditioner not cooling. We diagnosed and repaired the vehicle as authorized by the Customer. We stand behind our work, and the components replaced carry a 12-month, 12,000-mile warranty on parts and workmanship from time of installation. If they have failed and you are experiencing the same concern, we would be happy to schedule a time with our service department to determine the cause. Please give us a call at ************. Thank you again for the email response. It is my believe, ( and many other Honda owners ), that Honda is fully aware of the issues with the Civic r1234uf cooling system problems and the destructive nature of the refrigerant in question. Here is some additional info regarding the 2016 Honda Accord A/A issues; The ********* Honda Civic (and some other models) have been experiencing ** issues, particularly related to the R-1234yf refrigerant and the ** condenser. These issues often manifest as the ** not cooling properly, blowing warm air, or needing to be recharged frequently. A class action lawsuit has been filed against Honda alleging these ** problems are due to defects in the system's design or components.Thank you again,Sincerely,******** ******Here's a more detailed look at the problems:1. R-1234yf and Leaks:- The ********* Honda Civic uses R-1234yf, a refrigerant designed to be more environmentally friendly than the previous R-134a.
- Some owners have reported that R-1234yf is more prone to leaks, potentially due to the refrigerant interacting with the seals and other components in the ** system.
- This can lead to the ** system losing refrigerant and not cooling properly.

Other ***************************************ved="2ahUKEwio7_fwqsuNAxVyg4kEHW0eNUEQm_YKegQIOhAB" data-hveid="CDoQAQ" style="margin: 10px 0px 20px; padding-left: 24px; font-size: medium; font-family: "Segoe UI Web (West European)", "Segoe UI", -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif;">Some owners have also reported issues with the ** compressor itself, leading to leaks or complete failure. In some cases, the ** compressor and condenser are failing simultaneously, even though only the condenser is covered by the TSB.It's also possible for other components in the ** system to fail, contributing to the overall cooling problems.4. *******************************************ved="2ahUKEwio7_fwqsuNAxVyg4kEHW0eNUEQm_YKegQIVBAB" data-hveid="CFQQAQ" style="margin: 10px 0px 20px; padding-left: 24px; font-size: medium; font-family: "Segoe UI Web (West European)", "Segoe UI", -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif;">A class action lawsuit has been filed against Honda, alleging that the ** system in these Civics is defective. The lawsuit claims that the R-1234yf and the condenser issues are due to design flaws in the system. Many owners are pursuing legal action to recover the costs of repairs or to get the ** system fixed under warranty.5. Honda's Response:- Honda has acknowledged the condenser issues and extended the warranty on the ** condenser for a specific period.
- However, they have not fully addressed the R-1234yf refrigerant and other potential ** problems.
- Some owners have had to pursue goodwill repairs or other legal remedies to get their ** issues resolved.
6. What to Do if You Have ** Issues:- If you own a ********* Honda Civic (or other affected models) and have ** problems, you should first check for any relevant technical service bulletins or warranty extensions.
- You can also contact your local Honda dealership and discuss your ** issues with them.
- It's important to document all your ** problems, including repair costs and any communications with Honda.
- Consider joining or following any class action lawsuits related to Honda Civic ** issues to stay informed about potential legal options.

I would just like to reiterate that the A/C System of our 2016 Honda Civic suffered the catastrophic failure even before I added the compatible R1234uf Arctic Air to the system. Honda even diagnosed pinhole damage and chunks of shrapnel in the cooling system which caused damage to all related components in the A/C system of the car. Blaming us for putting R152 refrigerant into the system, ( Even though there is no filling hose on the market to make that work ), AND after that even saying that a person could make such a adapter hose themselves to put R152 into a R1234uf system ! The R152 refrigerant is not even legal for sale in the *** but they also said that that could be gotten illegally also. In short nothing but blame games from Honda for the catastrophic failure of the A/C system. OUR fault, not theirs. No admission of guilt from Honda.I am positive, ( as are many other Civic owners out there ), that Honda dealerships as well as Honda *** are well aware of the related problems but keeps ignoring them and they also blame other things of the A/C failure, in our case the adding of R1234uf Arctic Air. They also do not offer and make good on getting the repairs done under warranty and the service to get the cars A/C system running properly again.Thank you again,Sincerely,Gerardus, ( ***** ), GoorenCustomer Answer

I purchased a brand new car from this dealership in June of 2017. I specifically purchased from this dealership due to the lifetime powertrain warranty they offer. At their recommendation, I keep record of every service the car has ever had. In september 2022 I had my car looked at by this dealership due to seepage from the transmission, which they noted but said it wasn't a problem and to keep an eye on it. It is now May 2023 and I have taken the car in again to a different honda dealership and they determined the gasket on my transmission pan has failed, which is not an inexpensive fix. I contacted the warranty company who stated they will not cover this because replacement of gaskets in the transmission is not covered in the warranty. This is confusing to me because I assumed that all parts of the powertrain would be covered under their "lifetime powertrain warranty."I contacted Coeur D'Alene Honda to express my frustration with their lifetime powertrain warranty not actually covering the full powertrain. I spoke with **** in the service department who confirmed to me that the gasket on the transmission pan going out is not typical for a car with less than ****** miles on it. Whose responsibility is it that this gasket went out? I spoke with them at length and stated I understood that the gasket was not covered under warranty, but I don't understand how they can advertise lifetime powertrain warranty but not actually cover all parts of the powertrain.Business Response

********************* purchased a new HR-V from ** on 6/30/2017. We provided a lifetime powertrain warranty with the vehicle as advertised. The warranty is specific on what it covers - internally lubricated components as described in "covered parts". The customer was given the opportunity to purchase additional extended coverage to compliment the powertrain warranty, but declined.Initial Complaint

On 4/30/22 I paid a $1,000 deposit and signed written commitment with Coeur dAlene Honda (CdH) to secure a specific vehicle purchase. Part of deposit was non-refundable if I changed my mind. After waiting 2-1/2 months, the vehicle finally arrived July 11, but suddenly CdH has refused to sell it to me.Fri, July 15, I went to CdH to sign the necessary paperwork to take possession of my car. In the middle of signing, CdH suddenly said they were unable to provide the interest rate I had been told was guaranteed to me, documented in a pre-approval letter from ****************** CdH said I would need to pay an extra percent. At that point it was too late to call the Gesa underwriter to resolve the issue, as they were closed. So I asked to hold off signing the remaining paperwork until the next day when I could sort things out with Gesa and return to pick up the car. The next morning (Sat, July 16), I contacted Gesa who assured me their pre-approved interest rate was available to CdH. They said CdH could either: (1) contact Gesa underwriter for access to my preapproved ****% rate, OR (2) CdH could provide purchase order, which I would send to Gesa, who would arrange for me to pick up a cashiers check for the loan by 1 pm that same day. With either option, financing could be completed and I could pick up the car that day (Sat). I immediately called CdH to let them know about Gesa and asked to return to pick up the car that same day. However, CdH told me they had decided they didnt want to sell to me after all and I would need to go find a car elsewhere. That would mean many months longer wait with higher price, and puts me in a huge bind. IMPORTANT NOTE: On Fri when I asked to return the next day after resolving interest rate with Gesa, a CdH employee suddenly rushed up with a piece of paper and said they had just refunded my $1k deposit from April 30 and wanted me to sign for it. I did NOT request a return of deposit, and this was against my wishes.Business Response
