We had a sump pump overflow in our finished basement on a Friday. Resto Clean came out right away. The area affected was fairly isolated and small. We never had any standing water, just very wet carpet. They said it would take 4-7 days to mitigate the affected area which entailed cutting out all of the affected carpet, and pad, cutting holes for several feet of drywall and removing all of the baseboards. (Despite the fact that we let them know that there was never any standing water. and the incident had happened earlier that day.) They told us that they would have an estimate to us on Monday. In the meantime, they sprayed some antimicrobial spray in a very small area, and set up a dehumidifier. After he left, my husband and I discussed our situation and decided what they wanted to do was an overreaction to our situation. We decided to have ZeroRez come clean our carpets and we would replace our baseboards. On Monday, when they called to give us the estimate ($4,000 just to mitigate, not even the rebuild.) We let them know that we were going a different direction. They came and picked up their dehumidifier and sent us an invoice for over $700 for 2 hours of labor, the microbial spray and the rental of a dehumidifier. They had measured our areas that they claimed to have sprayed the microbial spray. Their measurements were correct, but they did not actually spray those areas. It would have been physically impossible for them to have sprayed them. The area of the basement that had the water damage is used for storage and was filled with Rubbermaid type of storage containers and our second refrigerator. Them billing us for spraying that area is unethical and I feel they are likely taking advantage of people who are in stressful situations. I know insurance would have likely covered much of the cost, but I don't feel it is right for them to be taking advantage of people and their homeowner insurance.
