************ For over 10 years I have been an active Gold's Gym member. But in 2020, at age 70, concerned about COVID, I asked to terminate my membership. Front desk staff persuaded me to put my membership on hold for 6 months. I was then advised I needed to reactivate it. I wore my mask to the gym and spaced myself away from others, but another member jumped on the elliptical next to me. I went to the front desk, where I was told the gym was keeping members safe by doing extra cleaning. I said the virus spreads through droplets, not dirty hands, and that I wasn't willing to take that chance. Staff said they would pass my concerns on to management. I left the gym and have not returned. I became my husband's primary caretaker when he underwent triple bypass surgery in July 2022, and several subsequent illnesses. My bank account was then compromised in August 2022 and I had to close it and open another. I called Gold's and was told I would have to come in to close my membership. I said I could not do that, I was caretaking. I believed the change of accounts would take care of the problem, But several days ago, I received a message that ****'s intended to turn me over to collections. I called the front desk March 7 and was told I needed to come in to complete a form to terminate my membership, then there would be a 30 day waiting period. But to complete the form, I would need to backpay the months Gold's was not able to withdraw funds from my account. Otherwise, I would be turned over to collections next week, that was Gold's policy. I think it is reasonable to have my membership terminated, as I have requested several times, and that I not owe additional funds. I have not used the membership since 2020, with the exception of the brief visit noted above. And yet, ****'s has withdrawn funds monthly until August 2022, when my bank account was closed.
