I visited Village Medical for a regular yearly physical with a Physician Assistant. I had two visits one on 2/09/22 for first appointment which I paid my $30 copay upon arriving. Bloodwork visit in between and then another appointment on 02/18/22 where I paid my copay once more. They sent me multiple statements stating I owed various amounts of money. I contacted my doctors office and they assured me I had no outstanding balance and to check in with my health insurance claims department. The claims department told me Village Medical billed them with a code for a specialist appointment instead of the regular code for physician assistant and that is why it was showing I had an outstanding balance. Village Medical then sent me to collections, so I contacted their customer service and billing department numerous time through messages and phone calls. I was assured multiple times it would be corrected. That was November of last year, 2022. Now 05/09/2023 I receive a call from a collections company on behalf of Village Medical for an outstanding balance for the same two problem claims that they said would be corrected the year before. I have not visited the office since 02/18/2022. This issue has surpassed a year in longevity and I want this issue to be resolved and closed permanently. It was my first and last time using a Village Medical office. It is ridiculous the extent to which I've had to go to get this cleared up. Thank you.

Before being purchased by Village Medical, **************************** was a notable practice however since purchase the clinician's whom have replaced the previous medical partners are perhaps the least competent I have had the misfortune to encounter as a patient. Doctors are unresponsive by their own standards, unable to address clinical problems that have been managed by their predecessors responsibly and essentially structured an impregnable blockade to 3rd party examination of their poor clinical practices such that vehicles like the BBB, ****** etc. are the only vehicles in which patients can render insight into substandard performance.

      Complaint: 20017537

I am rejecting this response because:

Communication is a key ingredient in a physician patient relationship. Fortunately I possess the wherewithal to pursue the issue that I have reported however there is a larger ******ic issue within this health care practice which must be addressed specifically there is no reliable method to convey patient need to a physician in context to the patient's history; there are no discernible methods for a patient to escalate their concerns outside the Athena ****** and a phone escalation method which actually distances the patient from the clinician rather than escalates their need to the attention of the physician. Although my immediate need has been met there is no guarantee that this will be carried to future incidences of medical need for myself or other patients. As an example try this telephone number **************  (issued by the practice as a part of their VillageMD Primary Providers ACO II, LLC, )  and follow the prompts and you will be disconnected as you attempt seek information about expanded benefits.

For the aforementioned I will not withdraw my complaint and the practice has not resolved the issue.

      Sincerely,

      ***********************

      Complaint: 20017537

I am rejecting this response because:

Although I am quite pleased to understand that this report has been forwarded to the Practice for 'learning' purposes it does not address the core issue which is that the Practice requires examination of its own standards and perhaps implementation of redundancy to prevent such issues from arising in the future. For instance:

The practice indicates that a response from a clinician to whom legitimate medical question is placed should be answered between ***** hours. In reviewing my record over 84 days this standard was met twice for no less than 8 exchanges with the practice with some responses taking in excess of two weeks.

Standard of Practice for the condition of concern (hypothyroidism in this case) dictates a repeat  of the lab test according to the ***********. The repeat lab test was not prescribed for over 60 days and after that 2nd Lab Test demonstrating precisely the same abnormality was never addressed by the Practice until over nearly 10 days and then was corrected by an unrelated Practitioner.

The corrections to the Meical Record remain inaccurate or without context giving the next Clinician an inaccurate depiction of a patient's clinical condition.

The personal time investment to correct any/all of these issues exceeds the time investment of the Practice to remediate the issues yet the Practice was timely paid as if it had provided the service as any 'just and reasonable' Practice.

      Sincerely,

      ***********************

Village medical (*******) refuses to follow ******** law and their own privacy policy.Reference:1. Article 27, section 2 of the ******* constitution and ******* Revised Statutes title 36, section ****-***************** to keep health information from being shared electronically.2. Village medical Joint Notice of Privacy practices, Pg 2, information exchange.Despite repeated efforts on my part, Village Medical continues to violate both the above.Village Medical provides personal patient health information to an information exchange. They do not allow a patient to opt out despite the requirements of state law and their own privacy policy. The above privacy document states that I may opt of of electronically sharing of information with an organization called Health Current by emailing ********************************* The reply I received was to call **********. The answer I got from them was to go to my local provider office, who directed me to email..( Talk about going in a circle).I have also contacted Village Medicals compliance officer (via email) a number of times with zero success.I call this a runaround! What can be done to a company who refuses to follow state law as well as their own written policy? Visibility is a just start! To resolve this, please get the attention of Village Medical so they will comply with the following:1. Provide the form to opt out with Health Current ( name of organization they share information with per their written privacy policy).2. Provide Health information request form for a copy of information available through Health Current.3. Provide the form for a listing of people who have viewed my information through Health Current. The above forms, signed by the patient, are required to be submitted by the medical provider directly to Health Current ( now know as contexture.org). It is unknown if the assistance of BBB will have any effect on this type of company, but your efforts are greatly appreciated.

They have yet to resolve the issues. They are still in violation of ******** law as well as their own privacy policy.

To simply say the complaint was passed on is no indication of any future attempt at resolution. Especially considering all the attempts I took to resolve the issues prior to making this complaint.

This complaint should remain valid until a valid resolution has occurred or is forth coming.

      Complaint: 19976431

I am rejecting this response because:

Village Medical never did provide the appropriate forms to resolve the issues of this complaint. Simply generating paper is not always a proper resolution.

On my own initiative, I have since gone around Village Medical to another medical provider who is in the process of providing me with the correct forms for communicating with the third party named in Village Medicals Privacy Policy  (which I was required to agree to).

Because of my efforts, along with the help of an unrelated medical group, this complaint is now OBE and may be closed.

I feel Finding a medical care organization that one feels satisfied with in all aspects is extremely important. Sometimes one needs to realize the many benefits of simply moving on with other options may be a very positive/better experience.

Thank you BBB of Chicago of your assistance!

      Sincerely,

The billing that Village Medical keeps requesting payment for, is from a yearly wellness examination by my Dr. that I had in January 2023. I've received numerous requests from Village Medical, via email, for payment. I have talked to a company customer service person multiple times about this, and each time, after checking, I'm told that somehow the billing was NEVER sent to my insurance company for payment, and that I don't owe anything, however, the same emails keep coming, I received one this morning, April 20, 2023, after spending the better part of an hour on the phone, yesterday, April 19, 2023, with a customer service person, who have me the same story, billing was NEVER sent to the insurance company for payment, and I don't owe anything!! He was going to submit the billing to my insurance company, but as I stated, another message regarding payment was received today, April 20, 2023!! I worry that all of this is going to affect my credit score as well!! I just want this mess straightened out, once and for all!!

I am rejecting this response because Before this does finally get resolved, I want Village Medical to remove any reports of non payment from my credit record, as this billing originated January 2023, and as of April 24, 2023 remained unpaid, because Village Medical never submitted the billing to my insurance company, and in the notices received from Village Medical, they said the billing would be turned over to a collection agency because of non payment.  I request written proof of payment, and written proof of any credit reporting by Village Medical.

This stems form a 3wk period.04/11/2023 I tried desperately to see my pcp earlier than my apt time on day of question. I went to the office and sat down with a shortness of breath. They told me my Dr was not in and they could not see me earlier. I WAS HAVING A HEART ATTACK at that very moment. Not on person came to help me. I begged again to be seen and asked for my pcp assistant, she said no and smecked at me. A friend took me immediately to the E.R where they did surgery.I was told there are no apts available. I trust in my Dr. *** the protocol that you've set is not what my Dr stood for before he sold to you. PREVENTIVE CARE is a lie on your web page and needs to be removed from any type of advertisement. The Doctors have been stripped away of there hard work and dedication of building there practices over the years. There reputions are diminishing and I will do my best to worn anyone who decides to go to your establishment. You have turned it into a S*** SHOW. I will tell patients to Run and Run like he'll. Doctors should have open same day apt to see there established patients long before you came into the picture. This is wrong.

On June 22, 2022 my wife, ************************************* and I, ********************************* went in for a preventative health visit to Village Medical with **************************************. I saw the Dr first, and then my wife. We were both perfectly healthy, but decided to go in for a preventative checkup which has always been recommended to us by doctors and my insurance company United Healthcare. United Healthcare covers preventative health visits at 100% for myself and my wife. When we went to the office we told ******** Medical staff and the Doctor it was a preventative visit, that we didn't have any issues, and we expected not to pay anything since UHC covers preventative visits. At that point we had a regular checkup with the Dr, which included normal tests such as weight check, blood pressure, blood work, and they hooked us up to an Electrocardiogram, followed by a conversation. Everything seemed to check out and we left.A few months later we each received a bill totaling around $109. Mine was $108.81. *******'s was $108.41.Multiple calls to customer service and escalations to supervisors only resulted in lots of confusing reasons why we were billed. To this day I still haven't been given a clear explanation of why the bills were issued.I told them several times, that during the visit for myself and my wife, we communicated specifically that we were here for a preventative visit because my health insurance company would cover that. We are healthy and don't need any other tests besides what is covered under preventative care.At this point, its clear that Village Medical sent our bills to a collection agency and my wife and I have both gotten multiple calls regarding collection. I have no other choice than to pay the bills and look for a resolution through the BBB.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have received a phone call and email from local mgmt and have been given assurance they will follow through with final resolution.  Although I do not have my refund in hand, I have a measure of confidence that honest effort and diligent progress is being made, something I did not have before contacting the BBB.

      Sincerely,

Moved 2 years ago, finally needed to go establish a new primary health physician. Saw wonderful reviews on *****************, and she was just that; absolutely wonderful **. Thank God I only went twice, however my Husband went at least 4 times. We were IN network, no problems. I asked at time of visit before and after, if I owed anything. Nope. Saw the ** 10/14/22 and again 10/31/22 with more visits booked. Thank God nearly a month later; BOOM huge bill for just TWO exams. Both the initial exam and 2nd exam together totaled over $900. FOR EXAMS! I have ********** Blue Shield, it should have at the very least discounted instead.... both exams were rejected by my insurance due to VILLAGE MEDICAL BILLING not doing correct coding in their billing department. A LOT of calls later, BCBC reps calling them in Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb and one last shot Beg of March 2023. ***** no resolution. VILLAGE MEDICAL BILLING will NOT correct my bill so BCBS can cover some/all of these exams. It is a SCAM to get more money and make the customer pay more and out-of-pocket. This week... I got a collections bill for the first "Exam" visit of $379. I informed my husband, even though they FIXED his previous bills with the SAME "coding" errors in VM billing ***** that we can NO longer go to Village Medical. I left a VM message on Accounts Payable # at their Chicago Headquarters months ago. NO CALL BACK. This is the MOST CROOKED medical facility I've EVER dealt with. TWO visits, so stressed out for now for 6 months. NO resolution. Calling VM Billing is like talking to a wall. No resolution whatsoever. BCBS themselves told me to file complaints and Rec: I never go there again. Also, my bloodwork I paid $429 OUT-OF-POCKET. I've never had to do that before, ever. Worst decision EVER going to VM. Wrote a bad review on BBB what, 2 months ago... STILL no response. Well, member of BBB or not VM, here's a complaint too.

I am being harassed regarding services I did not authorize at the office located on ****************************** as a new patient. I was given separate appointments for an annual physical and was told to come back for bloodwork needed for school.I did not authorize these services. I asked to have an annual physical and blood work that includes ONLY an HIV test, MMRV, and TB test that was needed for nursing school. I DID NOT ASK for any other service! After my specimen of blood was collected it was sent off to Quest Diagnostics and tested for all other services that I did not ask for. I also had to check in beforehand via an electronic device that had questions that had to be answered which included mental health questions each time. I was not advised or had any knowledge that it was a fee or was an mental evaluation. This is an unacceptable practice!
