I contracted a move through Authority Moving. They subcontracted through Unlimited Moving and Storage. A guy from Authority named ******* called me on a Friday wanting an exact count of boxes so I called him back on Saturday. He tried to say I had **** cubic feet and that I'd need a bigger truck and it would of course be much more for the move. I told him to stick with the original **** cu feet. Moving day came and they brought a 26 foot truck that holds **** cu feet. The Moving guy who was in charge said I had **** cu feet. 26 foot trucks hold **** cu feet and the truck was full. Then **** from Unlimited said I had 10 more items than what was quoted and that it would be $2000 more for "space and fuel". On drop off day the semi driver said he couldn't get into the storage area bc of construction. He delivered the next day and charged me $400 after I moved storage places and he still could not get into the area. He also charged an additional $300 to walk the stuff to the unit. I have a 10x30 unit. **** claimed I had **** cu feet of stuff at drop off and they would not deliver until I paid the remaining $4800 and some change. The movers placed my items in the unit in a way to make it look as though it was full, but it has a huge empty space in the middle. I would like the $2000 back that I was charged due to lack of integrity and shady business dealings that Unlimited Moving and Storage engages in. I will attach pics of my storage unit.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:The driver on the night of the move had me sign 3 separate groups of documents. If I did not sign the documents they would not move my items. I had to be out of the house the next day. I verbally told the movers and **** I did not agree with the amount I was being charged extra since I had gotten rid of items that were on the original bill of lading yet magically I had **** cu feet of items instead of the **** cu ft that fit inside the 26 ft truck. I want a full refund of the additional $2000 I was charged and continually threatened with non-delivery of my items if I did not pay.
Sincerely,

Hello
Customer had more items to be moved that overall occupied more space that was initially agreed upon.
Once customer signed and agreed to the new charges and directed us to move forward with this move we cannot deliver without the full new agreed upon balances. You do not enter into an agreement and then turn around and elect not to pay for said agreed upon cost.
We request that BBB will close this complaint since those allegations were explained and agreed upon.

Complaint: 20200818
I am rejecting this response because:
I had no choice but to "agree upon" this "agreement" as it was changed last minute without my approval. I had agreed upon the **** cu feet of property that was originally in the contract. At ****pm after liading the truck, it was told that I allegedly had way more items than originally agreed upon, and my items were already loaded. This company needs to have its moving license revoked as I am not the only one who has had issues with them. They are unethical and will resort to shady business tactics to obtain more money from companies. I also NEVER received a call from anyone from this company to resolve this matter. Another example of poor business ethics. I still want a refund of my $2,000.
Sincerely,

Complaint: 20200818
I am rejecting this response because:
The movers could not possibly know I allegedly had more items than originally stated in the original documents until after the items were packed on the truck. Again, the truck was a 26 foot truck that holds **** cu ft. I had less items than originally quoted by Authority Moving. I also told Authority moving to not bring a larger truck and I was told they would not. I signed the documents after my property was packed in the truck because A) it was ****pm and I would have to wait until morning to talk to anyone and I did not have the time, and B) I had to be out of my house and on the road the next morning, so I was unable to make calls to argue about how much I had. NOTE: my move was from **** to **********.Extremely unprofessional conduct, taking advantage of a person and their situation in order to make a few bucks extra. This company needs to be shut down.
Sincerely,

We were charged two times the contracted rate per each additional flight of stairs beyond the first 7 steps upon delivery of our possessions. **************claimed to be an employee of Bulldog Moving) was working as a contractor of Unlimited Moving and Storage, and he charged ** $700 in additional fees for *********************************************************** the contracted price (roughly $150 per each additional flight of stairs vs the contracted $75). We should have been charged $375 for the additional 33 steps not included in the contract, as the contracted rate is listed as: "Additional fee if more than one flight of stairs (7 steps) is used for moving items. Each additional flight is $75." We immediately contacted **************** at Unlimited Moving and Storage when we realized what happened, and she acknowledged that **** overcharged us for the stairs. She said she was going to pursue a refund for what we overpaid, but it doesn't seem like she has done anything. It has now been 4 weeks, and we do not have an update.**** showed us a document that detailed incremental charges for additional stairs based on the estimated weight of the move, but **************** later told us we should have only had to pay $75 for each additional flight of stairs based on the additional stair charges detailed in the contract. We are pursuing a refund of $325 for what we overpaid on incorrect stair charges. We paid **** $500 in cash and $200 on Venmo. I have attached a hand written receipt from **** and images of the stairway that was accessed for our move. We were first made aware of the overcharge for the stair fee after the payment had been made to our contracted agent. We immediately investigated the charges and found that, in fact, ************** had been overcharged for stairs. There was a gross oversight on the part of the driver and a refund has since been issued to ************** as of this past Wednesday. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We ask that this complaint be closed satisfactorily as the client's desired settlement has been met. Thank you.Customer Answer

We had a contract A84788598 for $3560.00 with ************************ (FNVL). The price was to be binding. FNVL did not do the move. They can by contract broker. FNVL brokered the move to Unlimited. Moving and Storage (UM&S) in *********** IL60712. UM&S increased the charge to $5129.00. FNVL in arbitration with FNVl their arbitrator ruled to had overcharged us by $1,351.50. Effort to communicate with FNVL at two different addresses has resulted in two returned letters marked RTS.arbitrators response In 90% of cases, the customer's charges are correct, and if that had been the case, I would have closed the dispute. That's what I meant when I requested the paperwork from the carrier. I was not aware of the overcharge until I saw the paperwork. Also, if the carrier thinks I am advocating for the customer, It's a fight to get the paperwork most times in situations such as these. No, I am on your side with this, sir. I see exactly what took place, ****** were overcharged. They should have only charged for 241 cubic feet. You may use this email to send to your bank if you need to do so, showing that I agree you were overcharged. You should not have paid any more than $3,560.00 for your move. Unlimited Moving and Storage overcharged you for 159 cubic feet at $8.50 per cubic foot. The overcharge amounts to $1,351.50.Business Response

****** failed to include 2 closets worth of items in the moving estimate, which were measured and discussed in detail with her, resulting in the move costing us triple the cost ($9,617 total, when the estimate was in the $3-4k range). The moving team was rough and careless with our belongings, and rude about the situation. Despite this huge mistake by ******, we paid them the money because we had no choice--we had to move out of our old home that day. When our items arrived, 1 item was completely missing and is a loss, and there was significant damage to multiple pieces of furniture, a television, and damage to the paint on the motorcycle they moved for **, as well as some other irreplaceable items. Photos of all the damage can be provided. As a result, we requested a claims form to file for the insurance coverage for loss/damages which was included in the price of the service. ****** requested photos, which we provided, but never sent a form. We followed up multiple times requested the form and received short, unhelpful responses. When we called their phone number on multiple occasions, no one ever answered the phone. When attempting to leave a voicemail, sometime the voicemail system would terminate the call or ask for a pin when . We got majorly impacted but the price of the move which has made it difficult to afford living expenses. We now just want the forms to file a claim to recover our for the lost and damaged items. But Unlimited Moving has provided horrendous customer service, terrible communication, and is not helping provide information to utilize the insurance they sold us. It's been over a month and we've gotten nowhere trying to resolve this. We just want a claims form.Business Response

(Order No. P1741105)Pickup: April 27 Promised drop off: May 3 Actual drop off: May 14 Original estimate: $2585 Actual cost: $2947 Discount offered: $200 First: During the initial consultation, the representative assured ******* six-day delivery window, with a specific delivery date of May 3. This information was confirmed by another agent within the company, who acknowledged that I had been "blatantly lied to."Second: With the exception of the bed and mattress, every furniture item packed and transported by Unlimited Moving and Storage sustained significant damage, while items I packed sustained no damage. No blankets were used in the packing of the furniture items. Third: the dispatcher assigned to our move displayed a severe lack of responsiveness. Despite numerous attempts to communicate and seek updates, the dispatcher remained unresponsive until I escalated the matter to a supervisor. Only then was the dispatcher compelled to engage in any form of communication.Third: since the delivery, Unlimited Moving and Storage has failed to respond to multiple calls and texts concerning the insurance policy. Our damaged furniture items necessitate filing an insurance claim to seek reimbursement for the repairs or replacements. However, the company's lack of responsiveness has further aggravated the situation and left ** feeling disregarded and ignored. Finally, due to the false information regarding the delivery dates, my family incurred substantial additional costs. These unforeseen expenses amounted to thousands of dollars, and yet the company offered only a meager $200 discount as compensation. Seeking the following:- Reimbursement for the repair or replacement costs of every furniture item damaged during the move (according to the companys policy)- A refund or adjustment of the moving charges to reflect the original quoted amount.- Compensation for the additional costs incurred due to the false delivery dates provided by the sales representative.Business Response

I hired Unlimited Moving for December 26th, 2022. They called me the night before and I reminded them to bring the box for the *** they said they would. It was the one thing I was most concerned about. This was a small job. Bedroom set, 2 bar stools, coffee table, 2 end tables, ** and ** stand and 17 boxes, which I was told I could have 40 boxes and that I was way under so there should be no problem. But when the movers showed up they said I was way over. I was quoted $2260 of which I had already paid a portion, They tried to tell me I had to pay an additional $800. That's when I should have had them leave and hired someone else. A decision I regret. I agreed on $400 more and they wanted the entire ******* in CASH. Then I found out they didn't bring a box for the ** they just took a piece of card board wrapped it around it with some tape and called it good. It didn't even cover the entire screen, this is when I should have tried putting it in my car somehow. They also took a chunk out of one of the bar stools because they didn't even bother to wrap them in a blanket and my bean bag went missing. When they finally delivered January 9th, 2023 my ** was broken just as I'd feared. I was told to call CSI and file a claim. Now here it is May 2023 and I get an email saying they will pay $20.40 for the ** and bar stool. My ** was less than 6 mos old and $500. This is completely unacceptable. I can overlook the other things but at the very least they should have to pay for the *** since it was their negligence that broke it.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: I paid $500 for the ** and it was barely 6mos. old. I told them to bring a box and they said they had one but when they showed up, no box and they wrapped a small piece of cardboard around it not even covering the entire thing. I will accept no less than $300.00. I think that is more than fair.

Claim ID ********* (S/O # X3041068 And X3041049)We contracted with Unlimited Moving in Storage to relocate my parents from *******, ******** to *********** *****. The move date was November, 2022. Prior to the company receiving our initial down payment, we received calls once or twice a day at the least. Once payment was received, the issues began. As the time grew closer to the move, the cost quoted changed twice. The movers upon arrival requested additional monies beyond the last quoted price. By that time is too late to decline. We paid for our vehicle to moved as well as furniture. There is a 3rd party vendor that moves the vehicle. The vehicle was not picked up until 2 days after the furniture was picked up. This caused a delay in arranging for my parents to leave ******* for their trip to ***********. There was no reimbursement for that debacle. We incurred the cost of additional nights in a hotel and change in airfare cost. Upon furniture arrival there were several broken items, which brings me to my issue today. There is a 3rd party vendor that handles Unlimited Moving and Storage claims, CSI. We submitted the information requested by CSI within the allotted time frame. This back and forward exchange went on from December until January. As of April 20, 2023, we have not received the reimbursement check that CSI claimed we were entitled to receive. There have been numerous email attempts to receive payment. With the last email stating we must now contact Unlimited Moving and Storage to gain resolution. I have sent several email to both CSI and Unlimited Moving and Storage and NO one seems to assist. When you call the number listed on the website, no one answers. This has been the most horrible experience for my elderly parents. This company is a rip off. I am hoping that by contacting BBB that someone can help get this resolved.Business Response

Hired Unlimited Moving and Storage on 12/20/222 days before move fromTerre Haute IN to ****** ** for **** cu ft 1 day full pack move from ******* to ******* for $8495.01, which included $2831 deposit pd that day I received binding estimate & paid addl $2000 when movers arrived for pickup on 22nd. When movers arrived with 26ft rented Budget truck, ****** said had too many things for **** cu ft move, & contacted boss for new estimate. While waiting for estimate, driver had me fill out address portions, sign & date several blank forms, & they began loading truck. Much later provided with $10,600 verbal estimate for 2 trucksIf needed when all packed/loadedno promise when 2nd truck would arrive. Was not prepared for a 2nd day, movers packed all bedding & left me in empty house overnight with ill-functioning heat due to their negligence. 2nd day was assured by driver of $10,600 *** charge for larger move. Were several problems during loading including damaged items, accusations of racism, loading incorrect items, poor packing with respect to assembly/disassembly etc. When 1st truck loaded, was given complete paperwork $14035 total charge.
