I have been attending this college since May of this year and have had no problems. I have been getting emails and phone calls harassing me about getting some papers filled out on my portal. I have filled out everything that I can and I'm still getting harassed that I need proof of residence. On my driver's license, I have my address on it that I have lived at this address for 5 years and I was told that they need proof of residence before my driver's license was issued. This is absolutely ridiculous!!! I told them that I have lived at my residence for 5 years but I'm not getting anywhere with them.Business Response

Case ID: 18015882
Dear Sir or Madam,
This letter is in response to the September 12, 2022 complaint ********************************* submitted to the Better Business Bureau (BBB). DeVry University (DeVry) understands Ms. ******** concerns to be that she was receiving phone calls and emails to complete paperwork on her student portal.****************** completed everything that she could but is being notified that she needs to provide proof of residency. She provided her drivers license that has her home address that she has lived at for the last five years, but DeVry informed her that she needed to submit proof of residency prior to when her drivers license was issued.
On March 2, 2022, ****************** signed an enrollment agreement for the Bachelors in ******************** Systems degree program and began enrollment in the May 2022 session that started on May 2, 2022. The ******** Monetary Award Program (***) ***** is available to ******** residents that demonstrate financial need based on information provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). As the *** ***** is for ******** residents, recipients must provide proof they have been an ******** resident for at least one year.
Students can provide a variety of documents to show proof of residency that include, but are not limited to, an ** drivers license, ** identification card issued by the Secretary of State, a residential lease, or a utility bill. The documentation must include dates to show residency within the year. ***************** was required to provide proof of residency between August 30, 2021 and August 31, 2022. On July 21, 2022, ****************** provided a copy of her ** drivers license. However, the drivers license was issued to ****************** on October 27,2021. DeVry does not dispute that ****************** may have lived at the address for the last five years, the drivers license only covered the timeframe of October 27, 2021 through August 31, 2022. Proof of ** residency for August 30, 2021 through October 26, 2021 was still required for her to receive the *** *****.
On August 23, 2022, ****************** provided utility bills to show proof of residency for the missing timeframe. However, the utility bills only had the issuance date and did not show the timeframe covered. DeVry could not accept the utility bills to show proof of residency for August 30, 2021 through October 26, 2021. On September 14, 2022, ****************** provided additional utility bills that included the dates of service.
As ****************** recently submitted the documentation, DeVry still in the process of reviewing to ensure all required paperwork is on file.DeVry is disappointed to hear that ****************** felt harassed in DeVrys outreaches. DeVrys goal is to ensure she received the student financial assistance that she was entitled to, especially when the *** ***** does not need to be repaid by the student.
If there are additional questions, please contact me ***********************************
Sincerely,

On June 17, 2022, Mr. ************* ****** a Stop Payment Request Form (Attachment 1) that DeVry processed on June 26, 2022. I attended Devry for an Accounting degree in 2006 after being sold on how quickly i could complete the degree and be working and how i could transfer credits. I made the ****** list my first semester and was excited but a good friend told me i could pay less by simply going to a local college. I I spoke to financial aid and they told me it would be significantly more for my second semester which i didnt understand why since the first one wasn't that bad. I then had all my classes chosen for me unknowingly after seeing my counselor and deciding to withdrawal from the school and all classes completely. Since they kept a master loan on file after i quit, they took out the full loan for all of the classes i never authorized after i withdrew. I never attended one class. I quit the school but they decided to take that course money, never give me any of it since i never took a class and then proceeded to notify the bank that i owed the debt. I contacted Devry and even went to the Miramar location to get this handled and was met with lies that i attended classes, then was told i wasn't even enrolled at the school, was told all of my information was lost, i mean i went through it and to this day i now owe 10K plus for loans for classes i never took, monies i never received in recompense for ******************************** i withdrew from. ****** denied ever taking the money. I took the paperwork there, that's when i got the run around. This has been a literal financial nightmare since 2007. This is so unfair. I even made payments on it after 10 years to try to get it to go away. I have disputed this every way i can. I could live with debt for classes i actually attended but to withdrawal on time then withdrawal from a school and then have a loan taken out anyway? This is by far the worst business practice i ever came across and they had no interest in ever helping me resolve a thing. I hope they enjoy the 7k that turned in 10k for me. I hate this school and company.Business Response

Upon applying to DevRy University, they were initially helpful and followed all my wishes regarding communication preferences. I chose email since that works best for me. However, these last couple weeks have had a lot of personal family medical stuff going on and now I have to move across country. Been communicating to the school through email to get a yes or no question answered but ***************** has been harassing me with phone calls saying no, I need to call. The school coerced me into making me believe they honor your preferences but have done quite the opposite and in a harassing way. I just want to drop school but I believe they are ignoring me just to get my money I feel very very cheated.Business Response
