My son leased an apartment at The Social that ended in June 2023. He signed the lease and I was a co-signer. At the time when he moved out, there were still tenants in the space. It was a four bedroom apartment where my son had his own bedroom. We cleaned thoroughly (and took photos to verify), but were were charged a $331 cleaning fee when the final resident moved out. Despite the management company telling me it had been resolved, the sent it to a collection agency and is now impacting both my and my son's credit.

Living at an apartment with the social has been extremely stressful. To start, they don’t view the original lease as a legal document and continually violate it. They charge one of my roommates $40 extra per month than what the lease states for rent, and have done nothing when she brought this to their attention. They also violated the date that the payments were supposed to stop and tried to excuse their violation of a legal document by saying they wanted all of the residents paying at the same time. Many residents also suspect that they overcharge their utilities, as they have never run this high in our own homes with more than 4 people. Their resident/customer service is absolutely horrible. One of their maintenance workers stepped on my brand new $400 prescription eyeglasses while fixing my blinds, and brought them up to me and stated “I hope they’re not broken,” and I had to pay for a brand new pair because they were un fixable. In addition, our HVAC was broken and leaking onto the wooden surface underneath and into the carpet on the stairs, and it took them hours to do something after we had complained multiple times and told them one of us was immunocompromised and couldn’t live with mold. They also sealed off the outside hoses, and threw away the hose I bought with my personal money and refused to admit they were responsible or compensate me for what they had done. In addition, in the winter storm of 2022, they didn’t plow or salt the parking lot for almost a week, leading to multiple cars getting stuck and needing to be dug out, and prevented me from going to work. The transition of this property from young america to the social was horrible and I hope to prevent future students from stress and anxiety by complaining about the social’s absolute negligence of their responsibilities. I know multiple people who have talked about getting lawyers to sue the social due to the numerous problems they cause their residents.
