I brought my 2003 **** Explorer to J & B Auto Service for a $390 intake manifold gasket job, which quickly ballooned to $889.98 plus 3.5% in fees due to a claimed cracked manifold, which is not the problem. I supplied my own full gasket kit and spark plugs, but they didnt use the kit (except one O-ring) and still charged $100 for spark plug labor despite having full access during the job After pickup I found the engine cover missing (later recovered) which led me to discover missing bolts specifically 4 ignition coil bolts and an alternator bolt. Despite returning multiple times, the bolts were still missing. They told me the head gasket was going bad and that only time would tell, offering no clear recommendations or repair receipts, just a push to sell me a $4,000 used vehicle My truck now runs worse than before, with rough idle, unsafe acceleration, overheating, and fumes entering the cabin causing headaches. The *** light remained on, codes were never cleared, and I now have a P1565 code plus a P0174 lean code indicating a vacuum leak or improperly sealed intake manifold directly tied to their work. Theres also a hole in my timing case, likely due to oil starvation, despite recent oil changes and no prior leaks.I have photo evidence of missing parts and poor workmanship. After returning the very next day (twice, once after nearly being rear-ended due to lack of power), multi bolts were still missing confirmed by an ASE-certified shop.On top of this, they charged an excessive 3.5% debit card fee. I also discovered unauthorized transactions around the same timeframe, which Im investigating as fraud and plan to pursue legally to the fullest extent. This experience cost me over $1,400, left my truck unsafe and unusable, caused loss of work and a missed interview. Combined with multiple BBB complaints from 2022 and 2024, this suggests a clear pattern of negligence and questionable business conduct. If you work hard for your money, avoid this shop.
