In June 2025, my wife's 2023 VW Jetta GLI triggered a check engine light. We’d had similar issues resolve with a fresh tank of premium fuel in the past, so we refueled, but the light remained. AutoZone’s scanner showed a faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and misfires on cylinders 1 and 2. We brought the car to VW of Clarksville on June 5. Later that day, we received a repair approval link showing a $860 high-pressure fuel pump replacement. Upon calling for clarification, we were told the fuel contained 40% water and the entire fuel system needed replacing. VW advised filing an insurance claim and blamed recent fueling. However, Clark County Weights and Measures found no water contamination at the gas station.
Due to my wife’s work schedule and our daughter’s car seat being in the vehicle, I couldn’t visit VW until June 10. I asked for details about the diagnosis. The service advisor became dismissive (because I used an expletive during a question), wrongly stated the car wasn’t under warranty, and claimed nothing could be done until the fuel system was replaced. A new fuel sample was drawn in my presence; it didn’t show water separation. I stood at the desk holding it for 10 minutes before the advisor even acknowledged me and finally printed a report stating the car required a full fuel system replacement due to water damage.
Insurance tried contacting VW multiple times. When the adjuster finally visited, he was told inspection wasn’t needed and the claim should be canceled. VW never followed up. On June 12, after being ignored again, my wife called from a different number and was told the MAF issue was software-related, had been fixed, no water was found, and the car passed three test drives. We picked it up June 13. The final report contradicted earlier statements, noting spark plugs and fuel were fine, and repairs were covered under warranty—despite earlier claims they weren’t.

Volkswagen of Clarksville acknowledges a lack of communication between the technician and the service writer, and between the service department and the customer. Also contributing to the situation, was a misunderstanding of the Technical Product Information (TPI) which led to a fuel misdiagnosis. Volkswagen of Clarksville apologizes for the misdiagnosis and the lack of communication. We are thankful to the customer for bringing to our attention areas for improvement.

Steven M******* *s a great salesman and when we bought a van there it was very clean and dependable and when there wasn't a full tank of gas they filled it up for me. Now my brother bought an another vehicle and he is happy with the purchase and I am also. Great buy and I'm glad they want to sell any car on the lot, even the lower price ones and everyone is extra friendly.
