They inspected my car's brakes and told me I needed brake pads and rotors, and also a caliper. They said both calipers had to be done at the same time. Have taken it to one other shop, so far, and they said no caliper is needed, that the calipers are fine. Midas wanted to charge me$525 for the calipers alone. The brakes and pads would have been another approximate $425...for a total close to $1000.
I contacted the Regional Director. He only talked over me and was rude.
While I was in the shop, I witness them charge an elderly man who was obviously not feeling well - $1200 for shocks and struts. I looked it up on Car Genius. This price is way too high. I also witness them telling another older man that his engine would blow up if he didn't change the oil. They also told me that I couldn't drive without a catalytic converter. That is a law enforcement concern. Not theirs. These seem like predatory practices to me. ...esp since the people involved were elderly. I'm not young either and a female.

We performed a free brake inspection on the customers vehicle and attempted to show her what was wrong. She was not interested so we proceeded to put her car back together so she could leave. As far as the other "elderly" person she is referring to, that customer has been contacted through our normal follow-up calls to confirm that they are satisfied with all the work that was done and they are.

I needed a new battery as my suv had no electrical power at all. They changed my battery just fine and the work was done right as far as I can tell but they insisted that my alternator was bad and they charged me ******. ****** for labor and ****** for an alternator with retail value at any parts store in my area being ******. This Midas has a history of price gouging. This is an unethical price gouging Midas so for your own safety DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE and make sure you get proof of failing part. I should have asked for the old alternator so I could get it tested. Bottom line is that this garage needs to be audited for over charging for automotive parts. Price gouging is a form of mechanical malpractice.

I'm sorry ******************** feels that he was over charged and we called 3 other repair shops to find out what they would charge to do the same job.Firestone - $741.21, Big O $869.59, ******* $988.68. As you can see our $746.49 is inline with our competition. The price for a part from a parts store is completely different than the price from a repair facility as we must mark the part price up to cover our expenses. It's no different than going to the grocery store to purchase a steak for $10 and going to restaurant and ordering the same steak and it cost $30. My area director has left ******************** 3 messages to explain what we found and he has not heard back.
