Had an emergency with my mother dying, told the club member IN PERSON I needed to cancel, she clicked 2 or 3 things then said ok sorry to see you go. I come back to realize Genesis has still been charging me, kept calling me to tell me to make payments and if I didn't pay they'd sue me. They're suing me for $1000 all because I wasn't able to continue to go to this crap gym.
What's better, they're hemoraging money due to what BS they pulled in Wichita, Kansas. This is by far the worst gym on the face of the planet, and I have seen some REALLY bad gyms. The owner is a scam artist and the people who work there are more than willing to follow that same lifestyle. Any possible way to bill anybody and get away with it without being held accountable for what they do wrong. Half the equipment is usually broke, and the PT and managers will full on insult you to your face thinking they're "encouraging you". Just avoid that gym, go literally anywhere else.

DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP AT GENESIS HEALTH CLUBS!! I went in to change the person on my membership, I spoke with the person who originally signed me up so I figured there wouldn't be anything to it.
Turns out he upgraded with without my knowledge and I didn't realize it until I owed $300 because of some "yearly maintenance fee" they charge.
Not to mention I've probably been to the gym less than 10 since covid.
I could never recommend a business that does shady stuff like that to anyone.

Before you think of signing up for Genesis, think long and hard. They prorate you when you join, they don’t let you cancel unless you’re in person. If you have family emergencies or physically, get hurt and your contract is not up, you can postpone it for $10 a month but you cannot get out of the contract in any shape or form.
Managers are arrogant and difficult to work with and talk to.
Worst experience of my life?? with any type of gym or health club! Read the complaints. There’s always a reason they are in the right. This place left me with a very low opinion of the family and the Stevensons corporation.??

My parents and I toured local gyms. They liked Genesis due to the pool. One of the managers we toured with, said he recommended my dad stick with the pool for awhile and then get into weights due to the sickness he just overcame. He did aquatic therapy and loved it. So they signed up and had their personal training session...which said it was very basic and lasted maybe 30 mins. the rest of the time was spent on talking about personal training sessions. The trainer conned them into 12 sessions, each, for a total of $540 paid upfront. They paid, and then before they even left the parking lot, they changed their minds and asked for a refund...knowing they could not afford that. They have been waiting on their refund for over a month now. First time they called, they spoke to the trainer and he said he would get it refunded. 2nd time they called, he said he missed the deadline so have to wait until it clears then however long their bank takes to refund. I advised they call again and get higher management on the phone. They said they will be refunded and will have to cut a check. Fine...great. Still nothing. Called again today and they still cannot give a date of when they will be refunded. He said they are waiting on more information. I just gave them the number to corporate and the nice lady told my mom that it looks like the check was already cut and sent out. There is so much miscommunication and different answers to this refund. Hopefully they will get their money back this year. Should not be this much of a headache.

My wife and I signed up for 3 month personal training contracts at the beginning of the year with North Topeka. Jan. Feb and March once a week with a personal trainer ( not cheap). Somehow her account was done correct and she wasn't charged April 1st. However, April 1st I'm charged again. May 1st I'm charged again, June 1st I'm charged again even after canceling our old credit card and getting a new credit card on May 7th. We did NOT give them our new credit card number. This treatment is beyond ridiculous. Dont sign anything with them. Just pay as you go and save yourself some major headaches.

Never do business with these scam artists!! They will tell you you are on a "month-to-month" membership yet try to get you on the hook with an additional monthly fee when you cancel or freeze your account. I signed the cancellation slip and said screw this extra month they want me to pay for. I was able to avoid paying either the late payment fee, as well as the additional monthly fee by cancelling my card, have not responded to their inquiries for payment since! :) Never give these people your bank routing info, they will drain the money from your account. I recommend you use a normal debit card and cancel the card once you wish to cancel the membership and avoid paying for another month. Good riddance ?

When I joined Genesis they did not tell me their water park wasn't free for members. It is at the y. Find out later it costs hubby and I $60 above membership cost to use one day on weekend. On week day it is "free" but they force you to use lockers that required credit card to operate which cost us $20! This was never mentioned when we signed up. We're members and assumed we could use free lockers in gym around the corner but were aggressively body blocked to prevent us using them in the facility we were swimming at. Going back to the YMCA where water parks are free seven days a week and I don't need a credit card to use locker.

When I joined I was adamant I did not want one of their contract services because my job sends me out of town frequently for months at a time. The guy signing me up said he understood and guaranteed it was just a month to month. Now I find that I am locked in yes my bad for not reading the fine print his bad for not explaining it properly and lying to me. I am going to close my checking account now so they can't get any more money I don't care if they send it to collections this is absolutely wrong

In years past I have been able to suspend my membership with Genesis when I travel. I attempted to do so again this year and was told that I needed to inform them 30 days before the suspension (I'm leaving in a week). This is the first of heard of this policy. I will now wind up paying for a month of membership that I won't be able to use. As a customer I'm angry about losing a months worth of dues for no reason other than policy.

We thank the customer for his feedback. We have reviewed his account and see that since his membership was written originally through Prairie Life, we have been able to begin his freeze as of 2.15.23 as he wished. Although we require 30 days notice for anyone on a signed Genesis agreement, we always allow the full months of freeze downgrade ($10 + tax/month) even with the delay.

Please feel free to contact us directly if there are further questions as we're happy to help.
