Terrible Customer Service, they don’t answer the phone. I have been a Member for 40 years and the quality has gone downhill. The virtual attendant is a joke and a waste of time. Very very disappointed.

My credit card was stolen out of my mailbox and $6000 was charged. I was able to report this as fraud, but the convoluted system within MECU meant I had to speak with many people over the phone over various months in various departments, and was passed back and forth many times. I have been told repeatedly over the past few months that it will be taken care of, but no one has made any progress. The account is closed, but the balance is still increasing because of fees being charged on the fees charged to fraudulent charges which were forgiven, but the fees were not.
This brought my credit down singlehandedly from 800 to 680 at its lowest, and it is slowly being rebuilt. I want to dispute the charges, but I first want MECU to clear the balance due so that I can go to the credit reporting bureaus and they will see that MECU has forgiven the fully fraudulent balance, but it has taken too much time.
I had previously given a google rating saying that the system itself was flawed but the employees were fine. The employees are incapable overall of managing the issues. They are very polite, but inept at cross-department processing. The MECU system clearly impedes them, but they themselves also struggle to make progress on a mildly complicated issue.
I really respect credit unions in theory, but MECU has shown that there are limits to what makes it worth accepting from a credit union.

I financed my vehicle through MECU Credit Union in April 2022. Despite consistently making payments without defaulting, I've received threatening letters from the bank about repossession, claiming I owe a balance of $797.48. I have proof of every payment, all of which are made automatically from my account. Additionally, MECU alleges they never received my insurance declarations page, despite my mailing it multiple times and uploading it to their website. Visiting their Baltimore location proved unhelpful, as employees directed me to call customer service. Today, on 04/12/2024, I contacted the insurance department, and the representative uploaded my declarations page, which was never on file since 2022 despite my numerous submissions. Due to someone's negligence, I've been sent to collections for an issue not of my making. This situation has instilled fear that my car could be repossessed due to an employee's mistake. MECU's handling of this matter has been profoundly disappointing, and I regret choosing to finance with them

This credit union is famous for not showing your correct amount of money left in your account once you see it. In other words like ******* *** once I use my card it shows that I used this amount not deceiving me making me think that I have this amount still in my account. So I won't overdraft and get a negative so they can keep collecting $30 of my money. They show you you took it our 3 days latter which is deceiving. Even though ******* *** has no overdraft fees. So with this account it is better to just go to the bank and take out your money so you can afford overdraft fees. I done already stop payments to this account because I kept getting 2 and 3 overdraft fees a month. Not good. So they got $90 out me in one month. Slick! But not no more.
