Under no circumstances should you use this vendor. They're not builders, they're fraudsters. I entered into contract with them in July 2022 to build an in-law suite for my aging mother. As of November, they have done nothing but steal a $40,000 deposit.
AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!

We entered into a contract with Matthews Construction and Design on April 5, 2022. The Contractor assured us at the time that it had availability on its schedule and that our project could be completed in approximately 2 months. Any delay, the Contractor indicated, would be due to items with long lead times such as cabinets. Since paying about two thirds of the total amount of money due to, among other things, pay for long lead items such as cabinets, the Contractor has been largely absent from our work site. As of this writing, the project has been ongoing for approximately 5 months and it still has about 1 month of work remaining. These delays are not due to the sort of issues that normally occur in construction. Rather, the delays are due to the Contractor’s
own personal and financial issues. More concerning is the fact that although we paid two thirds of the total contract amount months ago, the Contractor has not used any of those funds to pay for many of the items identified under the Contract, such as cabinets and appliances. Instead, when the time came to pay for these items, the Contractor was unable to pay. Rather, in addition to the original amounts paid, we have been forced to pay for the cost of cabinets, inspections, drywall, plumbing, and electrical work. Despite the fact that we hired, and paid, this Contractor, we have also been forced to act as our own general contractor by, for example, managing the subcontractors doing the work we hired the Contractor to complete, scheduling and attending inspections, and attempting to manage and work with the Contractor by, among other things, giving the Contractor multiple opportunities to correct its course. The Contractor has made numerous empty promises that it would get the project back on track. At this point, we wish to rescind our Contract and recover the monies paid. That amount will allow
us to complete the work that the Contractor has abandoned and compensate the us for our wasted time.
