I paid for matchmaking services, based on this company's representation that they take exceptional care to find high quality matches based on an evaluation of requirements, personality, interests, etc. I signed up for the service based on those representations and an assertion by *** at our first meeting that finding me a match would be easy. During that first meeting, I was told that my parameters were reasonable. These parameters included that I not be matched with someone in my profession, that I not be matched with those who wanted someone to birth children, that I not be matched with anyone who supported *********************** and that I not be matched with someone outside of my identified age range (a roughly 10 year span). The 'matches' I received were as follows:1. Person in my profession who wanted babies.2. An autistic man who was 13 years older than me, well beyond my requested age range.3. Man whose father was actively dying.4. Nice guy who clearly thought I was a foodie (I am not).5. A ***** supporter who laughed at the idea of spending time in the *****.The response I got to objecting to #2 was that "men like younger women."What is VERY evident in these selections is that there is no vetting system, no methods of matching people. It's just - here's a warm body. Emails were not timely responded to, and on several occasions the excuse of "it went to my spam folder" was made. There was no 'coaching' or feedback of any sort, which was also part of the promises made. They simply did not provide the service they advertised, and have refused to refund my money.I have tried to address these concerns after each 'match' and globally at the end, without success. There was a complete lack of effort to actually perform the vetting service that they promise - a promise on which I relied when making my purchase.

We are certainly very sorry to hear that ****** did not have a more positive experience with her membership. That said, every person that was matched with ****** was reviewed with her first. She had the opportunity to review the gentleman's profile and ask any questions that she wanted. Only after she  approved the gentlemen was her profile sent to the gentleman.
She then had the opportunity to engage in conversation before deciding to meet them. Her characterization of these gentlemen is without question, in our opinion, skewed.
Regarding ******'s request for a refund.  ****** is an attorney and she was/is fully aware of the fact that if a member is not completely satisfied with their membership we will repeat the membership in its entirety, for free. She agreed to this policy when she joined.
Our commitment is to every member to provide them the best opportunity to meet people that are sincerely interested in developing a committed relationship.

Better Business Bureau:I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # ********.

The profiles that are sent are supposed to have already been vetted by the matchmaker. They asserted to me that when they sent me a profile to review, it was a representation that they believed - based on their interviewing of this person, and based on the background, testing, and vetting that they allegedly did - that this person is a good match for me. At that point, I do have the option of accepting or rejecting the profiles based on the limited information that they send to me, but the expectation is that they have already done the legwork prior to doing so to determine that my criteria are met and the person would generally be a good match personality or otherwise for me. If it was just a matter of getting a random profile and deciding whether I wanted to date the person, there is no added value to this service over Tinder or any other low level or free service. I attempted - when they were sending me these profiles - to have conversations with them about the vetting process that was clearly not happening, and the situation did not improve.  (I have emails documenting these efforts.) Giving me three more months of a promised level of service that they are not, and have never, provided, does not solve the issue.

And since the business brought up the fact that I am an attorney, I would point out that no contractual term can alleviate or protect someone from a fraud claim, because any such term would be against public policy.

    Regards,

    ******

It has been more than six weeks since I paid for a three-month membership at a price of $****. To date, not only have I not met anyone through this service, I have yet to even receive a phone call and have no option to initiate one. Responses to my emails are delayed and timelines are not met. I have expressed my concerns via email and phone and they are met with defensiveness. I have doubts that they have the membership base to support what they're selling and answers do not add up. I have not received the service I was sold and have been misled. A full description of the situation, with dates, is attached and I can provide all email conversations with the owner, ***, as well. While I understand that there are no guarantees with this type of service regarding the outcome, the things I did pay for and have not received are the following: 1) A professionally written profile delivered in a timely manner; 2) The 7 to 8 matches I was told I would receive upon approval of my profile and completion of the background check;3) Beginning to meet matches within 7 to 10 days, as I was told and is also noted on the website;4) A copy of my background check, as requested, or at least proof it was conducted;5) Timely responses to emails;6) Professionalism. I dont believe anyone would accept paying $**** and receiving a couple of poorly written descriptions with no photo or contact information and customer service that is condescending and defensive. I have truly tried to give him every opportunity to resolve my concerns and he has not. Given how I was spoken to during our phone conversation, I do not even feel comfortable speaking with him. I have not received what I was sold and would like a refund.

We are always concerned when one of our customers is having less than a satisfactory experience.

We have reached out to ***** in an effort to address her concerns and resolve any issues that she may have to her satisfaction. She has not responded to our calls or emails.

Better Business Bureau:I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # ********. Please add your rejection comments below; if you do not provide any details, your complaint will be closed as Answered.

I see that The Matchmaker of Maine responded to the complaint today stating that I did not respond to his emails and phone calls.  I just wanted to follow up to inform you that I did respond to him via e-mail, which you were copied on. Since he continued to claim he was providing the service that I was sold, and I continued to disagree, I did not respond further after that.  I see no need to continue to go back and forth with him on this when he has nothing new to bring to the table.  His communications are defensive, less than professional and he clearly has no respect for women.  I do not consider the matter resolved and I am currently disputing the charges with my credit card company since he has refused to provide a refund.
