I have been making my agreed up on payments for approximately 15 months now and when they calculated my total cost it included the amount of my debts but with the idea that the settlements would be lower than the original debt. 15 months in they sent me an email saying that one of my creditors, ******, sold my debt to a collection company who is seeking to sue me for the debt. In order to settle they wanted me to allow them to increase my debt payment by $170.00 a month in order to settle with that creditor. $170.00 is a crazy amount to expect that someone who was in need of their assistance in the first place to help with debts to come up with in addition to the already $422 payment I am already making.Business Response

GRT Financial values the opportunity to address the concerns raised by our client and sincerely apologizes for any frustration caused by the presentation of a settlement offer that would require an increase in their monthly deposit. While it is our obligation to communicate all offers secured on behalf of our clients, we are mindful not to exacerbate any existing financial hardship.
Our negotiations team will revisit settlement discussions at a more appropriate time, once sufficient funds are available.
Although our attempts to connect directly with the client to discuss this matter further have been unsuccessful, we have documented the necessary notes in their file to ensure future offers requiring increased contributions are not presented. We remain committed to supporting their progress in the program and helping them achieve their goal of becoming debt-free.Initial Complaint

I signed up with *** back in October of 2023. I had a debt of $10,612 and this company was to consolidate my debt and get me free of debt in 24 months. Well as of June 2 my debt stands at $10,523 and Ive been paying GRT $418 per month since October 2023 which totals $7942. They had told me that I would be paying my debt off with no interest and no fees in 24 months. And told me that they will make their money by negotiating the whole debt down to $5,000.. my contract ends in October of this year and it looks like Im in more debt now than 19 months ago.. I took away 3 accounts recently so that they could get this done.. so I relieved them of $3,000 from my original debt with them. If I had not taken back my accounts the entire debt right now would be $13,000.. if they can repair and finish the job then that would be acceptable otherwise a refund would be the other reasonable option. Thank you. *****Business Response

GRT Financial has been defrauding me. When i signed up for the program they did not disclose optional charges and fees. They settle one debt in the first two weeks and for six months have collected $872 a month from me and not reached out to any other creditor. I have called at least once a month and was told that they were negotiating with the others. When I called on April 23, 2025 to check the status after my sixth payment I was told they had not contacted any whereas every other month I called I was told they had offers but were waiting for better ones to come in. They have destroyed my credit score, sent me further into debt and when I asked for money back they offered 1700 of the 5200 I gave them also told me they were keeping the settlement fee with Discover even though I have to deal with Discover now not them anymore. I would like all money back so that my family does not lose our house and I can talk to the creditors as GRT Financial failed to do and their calls are recorded so I proof of the lies I was given for months, All I ask is that they refund all my money and be done.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: spoke with them and they gave me my information and I asked that my contract end and was notified of the one that they had completed and was told that I still owed on the account. I asked that they not take anymore money out of my account because I could not pay the increase and told that they were looking into it but on April the 30th took $1440 something out and notified it was returned and if I didnt let them take it out my settlements would end and I would have to start all over like a threat not letting me know how they were paying the creditors every month so I can have my own accounts and accountability for my account because I will be paying them more then our agreement was this is an undue stress and the increases that they are asking for off of 2 missed payments is unrealistic. They have taken my money and havent done what they promised and they have caused more debt then helping me fix my debt. The problem is they promise to negotiate your debt but they started taking settlement payments for themselves and I didnt have one at all. It was my largest account and i Instead of it being 25% of my whole debt, they made it 25% of each card I had which that is not with the contract states either. So they are ripping me off and all I ask is for access to my accounts to pay them so they dont go into default and accounts that are not unnecessary charges returned to me ****** paid and only one $2,000 charge card paid off?
Sincerely,
******* *******scovery but they said I lost it because they paid themselves when I had funds in the account so payments were made I believe maybe 5 $100 but they could not renegotiate so I ended up going to court and the attorney stated that no funds had ever been received. Now Im paying $542.83 a month and they stated to pay themselves rest of my debt I needed to pay $1084. I have stated thats not possible and I was told I would loose a settlement again. I want this to stop.Business Response

GRT Financial values the opportunity to address our clients concerns and remains committed to supporting them throughout their program. Currently, five of the six enrolled accounts have been successfully negotiatedone has been fully settled, while the remaining four have been structured as installment settlements aligned with the clients monthly deposit schedule.

In such cases, our team works diligently to maintain settlement agreements and adjust program terms when possible. However, if scheduled payments to creditors cannot be completed due to insufficient funds, GRT Financial cannot prevent the creditor from voiding the settlement.

I am rejecting this response because: They only contacted me once by email and notified that they would be sending me the information requested and apologized for taking the draft out of my account even though I rejected it and stated that they would not take another out for the month of May. Did not give me any of my creditors information and when I contact them by phone Im transferred from one person to the next with no one with a true understanding of my account only if I dont pay Im going to loose all my progress Ive made so far which really is not much for all that Ive paid into this account just to be told that the fees where necessary and the breakdown is not .25% for the whole account it is for each individual account because they even stated that if I settled one of my **************** accounts in full for $300 I would owe the rest of the settlement fee of that account. They should have all of their phone call recorded because it states that before you speak with them. If they would have some one contact me give me all my information and not hang up on me or make me feel like Im going to loose everything by walking away from this would be nice. Im to the point I know its money lost and a ****** learned I just want to fix it now. I did this to pay off the accounts and I knew it would come with a fee but this is ridiculous. They are not helping people but ripping people off and thats not right.
Sincerely,

GRT Financial has made multiple attempts to contact our client via phone and email to address their concerns but has, thus far, been unsuccessful. We are eager to speak with her to provide important information on how to maintain the integrity of her current settlement arrangements.
We regret that our client may have felt pressured or threatened by any communications regarding the potential loss of active settlement agreements. Our intent was solely to convey the creditors standard practices concerning the enforcement of settlement terms and the potential consequences of missed payments.

I am rejecting this response because: I have received one email from them made several calls to the number that called me to discuss my account which I thought was my contact person but the number goes to this system that says they are unavailable then prompts me to leave a message then comes back saying that its unavailable as well. I got frustrated with that so I finally called through the main line to discuss my account and of course that person had no ideal what I was talking about and then reviewed my account or notes and told me that the only way I could communicate with my point of contact person was to actually respond back to the email not the phone call. He said he would leave her a mess as well. I asked him if he could just notify her to just send me by mail the information for the creditor so that I can move forward with taking care of my debt myself going to have to file bankruptcy due to all this paying ****** to something to only have one ***** credit debt paid off makes no sense to me. I just need the paperwork for the settlement so that I can file. This is a headache.
Sincerely,

I was contacted by *** to help with my credit card debt, do to a illness with my husband, i reluctantly signed up, before them I had a credit over 700 and made all my payments on time. I did however need to reduce my ***** I was told that total fees i would pay for the program was $13,558, however a year and a half into the contract I have paid over 8K in fees, I have paid more in fees than they paid to my creditors, I called once about the fees being charged and again was told 25% plus 2% on original settlement, when I called the last time, the *** kept changing her answers on the fees and then finally told I was paying for the attorney as well, When signing I was under the impression all of that was included in total amount of fees, I have paid over 13K into the program and 8K has gone to the company, and 5K to my creditor, 4 creditor still unsettled and my credit had been demolished, I was told would initially take a hit but would increase back when payments start getting made. I then cancelled, I was told that the accounts that were settled would remain, and I would have to continue the payments with the creditors. I called one of the creditors and they told me since I cancelled that they will send back to the ********** and the agreement is no longer valid, I called *** and for them to add it back they said they have to resettle again, they were already paid for this settlement, and I made 709 in payments to the creditor. This should have been advised before I cancelled the account, If I would have been informed I would have left the settled accounts and just removed the ones unsettled. They are famous on not providing all information.Business Response

When I first started talking to them I was already with a company that was suppose to be helping me pay down my debt. The man I talked to convinced me that I was doing the wrong kind of program and that if I stopped that program and switched to GRT it would be so much different and that they would get the results that I wanted without all the extra fees that I was currently paying and that *** would pay down my debts first BEFORE they charged me for the their fee to do so on each settlement. All I would be paying to them would be a monthly service fee until I had a creditor paid off then they would take their fee for that settlement. That is NOT what has happened AT ALL! I signed up with *** in March of 2024, right off the bat, they charged me twice for a monthly service fee. When I brought this to their attention I was told they would get it corrected immediately. To this day it has still not been corrected. I have paid in ********. Only ******** has actually went to paying my creditors. ******** has went in their pockets for not even completely settling one single account. They do not communicate with one another because I was always called numerous times about accepting the same offers even after I had accepted. They argued with me when I declined an offer from one creditor because I had JUST received in the mail a lower offer from the same company and continually tried to tell me that I needed to take the offer that they had gotten. I told them to do their jobs and take the offer that I had been mailed which I was told then that the mailed offer was old and no longer valid. They lie to suit whatever they are trying to get the client to do. When I called to cancel I was told that I was only one payment away from having THEM paid and all the rest would be going to creditors except for my monthly fee and I told the young lady that was not how I was told they would do things and to cancel. I got an email this morning about my payment being declined frombankBusiness Response

GRT Financial appreciates the opportunity to address the concerns raised by our former client.
Regarding fees, GRT Financial is required to successfully negotiate and remit the initial payment to a creditor before performance fees can be earned. Any monthly fees assessed were related to a third-party account servicing provider, over which GRT Financial has no control and cannot issue refunds. We sincerely regret that this was not clarified at the time the concern was first raised.
GRT Financial successfully negotiated three settlement offers on behalf of our client; however, two of these offers were invalidated by the creditor due to returned monthly deposits marked as ***. Due to lack of funds in savings the settlement offer mailed to the client could not be accommodated in a lump sum as required by the terms of the creditors offer.
The ******************* Team has discussed these matters with our former client and remains available to address any further concerns as they continue working toward their debt-free goals.Initial Complaint

On 2/27/2025 I contacted this company to exit the program. There was $425 in reserve that I had paid that was to be sent back to me. The company failed to stop the pending withdrawal to pay one of the creditors. In failing to do this $100 was taken from the reserve that was to be returned to me. I called the company and they said yes they failed to stop the automatic payment. But there's nothing they could do about it. I gave them the opportunity to compensate me for their mistake and they flatly refused. That may be their policy but it is immoral. If I fail to do my job and it cost you I would not hesitate to pay you from my own pocket. So now... of the ******************************** only $200 was paid out to creditors and only 325 is being returned to me. The policy of not making up for their own mistakes makes this an immoral companyInitial Complaint

Ive paid GET Financial over $3,600, within the past year, after being told that my credit card debt would be negotiated, and reflect a positive impact on my credit report, within 3-6 months after starting the payment plan. It has been 11 months since I first spoke with them, and they have paid $1100 towards my credit card debts, and are telling me that I have a balance with them of -$70. That being said I have $2700 that has vanished from the account, and they claim that it was all paid in legal fees. This means that they have applied less than $110 per month, out of $330 per month in payments. Also they originally told me that the positive impact would reflect within 3-6 months, but are now telling me that it will take up to more 4 years. GRT can only give me an explanation for $9 per month if some kind of fee, and $50 a month in legal fees. This only adds up to between $600-$700, of fees, out of the $2700 that they have received. They cannot explain where the other $2000 went and are saying that they have paid 1 credit card $100 in the past 10 months, and another card $1000 in the past 10 months. I highly recommend anyone to avoid doing business with GRT Financial because they take your money, and only use about 30% to pay the debt. I could have had these 2 (out of 5 total) cards paid off completely with the $3800 that they have taken, but I wasnt aware that they do not pay the debts with the funds. Instead they tell you not to pay the credit cards anymore, and ignore the credit card companies phone calls. They want your credit cards to go into collections, and destroy your credit score, while they make profit off of your hardship, They also give the impression that they are helping improve your credit score when in actuality they destroy it, and count the positive reflections from the destroyed credit score, as them increasing it. My credit score was 640 prior to signing with them, and is now 490 after they started repairing it.Business Response
