We signed a building contract with TJB homes to build a new home. We put a deposit down of $7,500 for the design fee. After getting all of that figured out we signed a contract to build with TJB and gave them an additional $75,000 deposit. After that the city of Forest Lake denied our building plans and we had to file for a variance. After attending the variance council meeting on July 13th our variance was denied as well. We told the builder immediately we are just going to remodel the existing home instead of tearing it down and wanted to give him the opportunity to give us a remodel bid. Since July 13th TJB homes filed for an appeal with the city (which we did not approve) and refuses to call us back and settle up with us and return our deposit of $75,000. We are totally in agreement we will not get the $7,500 back but we need the deposit of $75,000 as our plans got denied and there isn't much else we can do about it and would like to just move on. It has been one month today and he still has our money. The city also made us aware there are no charges with them as the permit was denied. TJB's license # is ******** and they are located in ****** *********.
