Service Today came to our house on June 8th to quote a new Electrical Panel. They quoted us $7k just to replace the panel. I said no we will get another quote. The salesmen spent 30 min telling us our house is in imminent danger of a fire from the Panel and that our Outlets could cause a fire at any time (they had checked the outlets when they first arrived). The manager then called the owner - Jeren Hamlin - and put him on speaker phone. The owner told us he was currently at a house fire that was caused by an old Panel, and when he asked the manager the make of our Panel, the owner then said that was the SAME panel that just caused the fire of the house he is at! He said we need to get that Panel replaced "Tonight - Tomorrow!" My wife was already scared by the salemen telling us the outlets are in danger of starting a fire at any time. So when the Owner said the Same Panel we had started the house fire where the Owner was currently at, that was all my wife needed to hear. So we signed the contract. They installed the Panel the next day - June 9th. - 1. The Panel did not pass inspection by the City Inspector. In fact as of today July 26, it has still NOT PASSED! 2. They installed an Industrial Panel with no cover (which is why it failed). 3.They cut the "Tag" off of our Electrical Meter and shut the power off themselves. LCEC said no one is to shut the power off and remove that tag except LCEC! 4. They NEVER pulled a permit! They came the next day to do the install, so they could get around waiting for a permit to be issued. Then they said it was an "Oversight" that a permit was not pulled.5. The City Inspector and 2 other independent Electrical Contractors each gave the exact same estimate that $2,500 - $3,000 was average price to replace a Panel. NOT $7k. This was a clear case of ******* and it succeeded because they used scare tactics by the salesmen and then backed up by the owner who wasnt even there to see my Panel or my outlets. It was a total setup.

The initial price given was $9,062 for the job quoted. A discount of $2,062 was given and the customer financed this job through Goodleap, for $7,000. The project has completed and inspections have been passed as per the agreement. We cant speak to what other contractors may have said regarding what price they would have offered after the fact. For the work competed of removing an outdated panel and replacing it with a new upgraded panel and all of its safety and ensuring all new aspects are up to code and pass current inspections, we quoted multiple packages, and the customer selected the package of their choice and was then given additional discounts. The work done was accurate for the price quoted and agreed upon.

I am rejecting this response because:

This business used the fear of an imminent fire that will burn our house down because our house was a "fire trap'. They used a phony meter that they said shows all of our outlets were in danger of causing an immediate fire. The owner even became part of their "imminent" fire hazard when the sales people called him and he said he was at a fire at that very moment caused by a fire from the "same" panel manufacturer as our box. 1. They did the job the next day and DID NOT PULL A PERMIT. This is required by ** Law!! 2. They Cut our Lock on our Electric Meter which is also a Violation by ** Statute which ****** that ONLY the power company - LCEC - is allowed to cut that *******. They shut off our power to our house that also is in violation to the ** Statute Law which states that ONLY LCEC is allowed to turn the power off. 4. We signed a contract that by law we had 3 days to rescind. This company violated all the above ** Laws because they did want ** to use this legal right to cancel the contract.

The job has been completed and passed inspection. For inspection to be done & passed a permit is required to have been in place. There is no regulation stating that power to a residence may not be turned off other than by LCEC. LCEC permits meter locks to be cut in the instances that danger is likely. LCEC has since been informed and replaced the lock. LCEC would notify Service Today if any violation had taken place and would communicate this to the Electrical Contractor directly if it LCEC determined it was warranted.

The pricing given was not only for a panel replacement, but included panel upgrade, whole home surge protection, grounding upgrade and new main disconnect.

A  similar replacement panel alone may cost near the pricing that the customer has referenced but with the additional items included in order to correctly install the upgraded panel, the pricing came to $9,000 and then a $2,000 discount was given.

On June 6, we paid $1250.00 for a technician to come out and inspect our AC unit. **** came out and refilled the refrigerant and told us that he will also do a leak test. He said it will take two weeks to detect any leak and left. He came back on the 20th of June to inspect for any leaks. He removed the covering for the coil and showed us that there were leaks. He said he will put in an order for the coil and will come back to replace it. He told us the part are under warranty, however, we will need to pay for labor. We told him we were still under warranty for both parts and labor. We showed him the original paper work with the warranties. He had issue verifying our labor warranty and called the office for verification. He was having issue with his tablet connection to put in the order for the coil and said he will contact us once he is able to put the order in and left. After leaving, he called us back saying that he can come back in the afternoon to replace the coil if there are available parts. An hour or so after, I get another call from their office saying that they do not have the parts on hand and will take 4-5 business day to get it. Couple hours later, another technician called and said he needed to do an inspection on our ducts. After his inspection, he gave us three options and told us if we agree on any of the option, they can do the work at the same time that they replace the coil. We were not interested in any of the options. We just want them to come out and finish the job by repairing and replacing the bad coil that is under warranty. We have not heard back from anyone since the 20th of June.

      Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because: ServiceToday! have not send a technician to finish the work. They did call on 7/11/2023 at 4:14 PM to schedule a follow-up visit, which is scheduled for Thursday 7/13/2023. We called them back today on 7/12/2023 at 10:55 AM to get the specific of what the follow-up visit is for. The follow-up visit is to inspect the previous work made by the previous technician and to make sure that our warranty is valid. We were told that they do not have a status on the coil. The response that a technician returned on 7/11/2023 and finish the work is completely false and unacceptable.

My bathroom ceiling exhaust fan stopped working years ago and I wanted to replace it with a new one. I unplugged the old one and tried to find a similar model at ********** but was not able to locate the right size for the space in the ceiling. The Service Today! technician looked at the electrical connection where the old exhaust fan was plugged in and said there is a fire hazard in the wiring of my whole house. The service fee was $45 plus an additional $450 to check all of the outlets in my house. The proposal options were 1) $25,950, 2) $19,950 3) $15,950. After getting additional estimates from other Electricians it is clear that Service Today! scammed me out of a $450 inspection fee that I didn't need. The other electricians did not find any fire hazard in the exhaust fan outlet or in any outlets in my house (CHECKED FOR FREE). It is apparent that Service Today! tried to scam me for the additional proposal of $15k - $25K for something I don't need.It was very unethical for Service Today! to lie about a potential fire hazard in my whole house based on a request to replace an exhaust fan, then charge the additional $450 inspection fee, and then try to get me to pay $25k to replace all of the wiring and outlets in my entire house.

On 6/5/23 we serviced the property. The technicians report indicates that the voltage output throughout the property is below the minimum standards set by the National Electric Code. Several repair pricing alternatives were prepared that would address the voltage drop issues and then presented them to the homeowner. The homeowner was free to accept or decline the offers presented. We cant speak to what another repair company may have done or said on this issue.

Early December 2023 Service Today installed a furnace in our home during that process they disconnected our central air. They did not have the part to and it was too cold to add coolant; I was told that they would be out early spring to get our air working again. We have called 13 times to get them to come out, they cancelled two service calls. We used Service Today on two projects both were unsatisfactory service and learned after the fact that the furnace installers were not licensed electricians and furnace was miswired, that has been fixed.

Scheduled electrician to come out & replace fixtures + add a few outlets to garage space. Electrician arrived & was shown the space & checked the current electrical setup. I did also ask about replacing smoke detectors. The electrician was nice but after going through the house, came back with several options ranging from THE WANTS to the FULL SAFE SOLUTION which included replacing our electrical panel & rewiring the whole house, in addition to the requested services, price ranging from ~$8,800 to $41,000! The original reason for the call was barely discussed as the electrician tried to sell us on this investment for our home. The different solutions werent presented until after ************** sent via email at 6p. Was scared there were serious issues w/the house but 2nd opinion came back that there is nothing wrong w/electrical panel or current wiring, & 2nd quote for work requested (minus smoke detectors) was a fraction of the cost. Was told by scheduler when the appointment was made that service charge would be waived w/work done. All the fixtures were purchased & at the home ready for install and I was told they would arrive with a fully stocked truck, but I dont believe there was ever any intention to do the work same daywe didnt even get a price quote until almost 6p so there was no way he was trying to stay & do the work! I did expect that the work may need to be split over a couple days but NO work was done despite having all of the fixtures at the home ready for install. I dont believe that I shouldve been charged $81.37 service charge since we werent presented with pricing until 6pm and given electricians ************ # to schedule for the work to be done. Have tried 5xs over 2.5 weeks to call & speak to someone regarding service charge but havent been able to talk to anyone other than schedulers despite being reassured that Ill get a call back; only 1 attempt from mgr to call me (he left voicemail which *** called back 2x since then)
