It is impossible to get through to someone about overpaying on my student loan. Their policy is 90 days to refund my money and it**;s a 5 hour wait to be able to talk to anyone. A person calls in and every now and then you get lucky to talk to someone, then they put you back in to the queue and it**;s another 5 hour wait to talk to someone. They can**;t solve an issue and a person can**;t get to an account supervisor. I have reviewed the business' response and am rejecting it because:
I will not be satisfied until I speak with an account supervisor or I receive the money that MOHELA owes me. I have wasted several hours of my time trying to find someone at MOHELA who even makes an attempt to solve an issue.

MOHELA was my education loan servicer. On their website it says I was due a refund of $10,000 and was initiated on 11/12/24. I called in January 2025 to find out the status. Representative said it was referred to US treasury on 12/3/24. Called treasury and they have not received anything from MOHELA. Its been 90 businesses days since they claim I should receive a check. Still nothing. I just want my overpaymentBusiness Response

Student Loan Issue- My loan was originally with Mohela. My loan was transferred to ** ********* ******** on 5/20/24. I was not aware of this transfer and kept paying Mohela my monthly payments since 5/20/24 until 2/6/25.Each month the payments were taken out of my checking account and kept by ********************** for a total of $4506.25. When I became aware by ********* ** in 2/25, I tried to contact Mohela. I cannot log on as it says I don't have an account with them and the wait times are over 5 hours by phone. However on 3/17/25 I did finally get to speak to someone and they were made aware of the situation and said they would get back to me to remedy. I asked why they would keep my money even though I do not have a loan with them and asked where did they money go. She could not provide an answer. I have not heard anything and cannot get through. I am looking for them to reimburse me the full $4506.25 and not directly transfer it in one lump sum to *********** as I am qualified for the **** plan and need 120 payments for it to be approved. One lump sum would put me back 10 payments. I am appalled that a company would keep money that they know doesn't belong to them and not notify me that this was happening. Can you help me to remedy this situation or tell me what I should do to get the money back. Thank you fo your help.Business Response

September 3, 2024 (1:01 pm) I requested from Mohela to move from my current IDR plan of SAVE to **** because of the court injunction that placed all SAVE plans on forbearance. I am working toward **** and need my payments to qualify. The representative - ******** - stated that she was able to switch me to the **** plan and gave me an estimated monthly balance due of approximately $365. September 18, 2024 correspondence from Mohela noting that I was approved for the move of SAVE to **** and my estimated monthly amount of $411.65 was to begin payment on February 2, 2025. I never received a bill and my forbearance continued through till April 2025.February 22, 2025 correspondence from Mohela stating that I did not have to rectify my income for the approved IDR plan until August 2, 2026. March 26, 2025 correspondence from Mohela that my IDR plan is approved and the monthly amount due is $411.65 now beginning on May 2, 2025. I logged into Mohela to make my monthly payment. My account had a balance of $554.78. On March 31, 2025 I called to figure out the discrepancy, the automated service stated I have a monthly balance due of $671.71. The supervisor noted ******** placed me on a Standard Repayment plan. I also requested for a copy of the recording of that transaction and stated that I would need to file a subpoena. March 31, 2025 I also called FSA to see if they had any additional information. They informed me that their records show I am still on the SAVE plan and have a forbearance until July 2025. April 3, 2025 I received additional correspondence from Mohela that I am on an approved IDR plan and now my balance due May 2, 2025 is $554.78.April 12, 2025 called Mohela to resolve why there are so many discrepancies and have not been able to reach anyone who can help me nor have I received a call back from any manager within resolutions.Business Response

Almost 2 years ago, I submitted a request to have the payments I made during COVID refunded. Since that time, I have received $41,680.17 out of $46,245.17. I am still entitled to receive the remaining balance of $4,565.00. There were two servicers of which I made payments to. I have received the full balance of refunds from Mohela in total of $23,973.98. However, I have only received a partial amount from my previous servicer FedLoan. I have made numerous contacts with Mohela and they have been of no help, especially the managers. Several requests have been put through with Mohela and there is still no progress toward receiving my remaining balance of $4,565.00. After requesting my paperwork from Mohela from payments made to both servicers, I was able to determine the missing amounts were still from FedLoan. I, again, contacted Mohela to provide them this information to see if it could help to speed up the process. Again, they were unhelpful and said that "it can take a while" and they "could not follow up with the ********************** to see the status. I made an on time qualifying payment on 6/1/2024. MOHELA placed me in a retroactive forbearance on 6/5/24 for the platform transition, which caused me to lose credit for this entire month; it has still not been reported to Federal Student Aid as a qualifying payment. I was finally able to remove the forbearance by 1/2025. MOHELA **** confirmed June 2024 is now marked as "in repayment" and they have record of my qualifying 6/1 payment. MOHELA still has not correctly reported this payment to Federal Student Aid/***** and I have therefore not received PSLF credit for the payment. I am asking for urgent correction of this.Second, MOHELA is strategically preventing me from entering repayment on ***. I applied to *** on 11/19/24, was moved off SAVE to *** on 3/2, and scheduled to enter repayment on 5/1/25 after almost a year of fighting to get on ***. However, on 4/4 MOHELA applied *another* retroactive forbearance from 2/25 until 7/31/25 and will not allow me to enter repayment. They also took away the 2 months of processing forbearance I had earned and my count decreased. I submitted a request on 1/16/25 to backdate the 60 day processing forbearance to my 11/19 IBR app, and was told it would be completed in 10 days. It has still not been processed, and I am asking for this to be processed urgently. I am trapped in a seemingly never ending forbearance that is ACCRUING INTEREST and they won't allow me out of it. I called last Thursday to have the new forbearance removed so I can enter IBR repayment in May. That still has not been processed. If I receive the credit I'm entitled to for June 2024 plus these two months of processing forbearance, I'd be at 120 qualifying PSLF payments and would be done.Business Response

I have been trying to resolve an increase in my loan amount reported to credit agencies. My loan amount went up by over $3000 despite it being in 0% forebearance. Initially I tried the messaging center. They were slow to respond and gave me a non-answer despite me clearly explaining what had happened and that I was in a 0% interest forbearance. I contacted them again and they said I would need to call. Over 3 hours on hold before I finally had to hang up. I finally was able to contact someone who said she would transfer the call to a loan specialist. Again, left on hold with no indication of when I could expect to speak to someone or option for a callback. Ridiculous.Business Response

My student loans were paid off in December 2024 under the ************** Loan Forgiveness Act program. I have the letter from **** Education and my loan balances show $0 under Federal Student Aid and an overpayment credit balance of $1519 under Mohela's web portal. Since then, Mohela has not initiated the process to have the **** of the Treasury to issue a refund nor have they updated my credit report. When I inquire about it, I get different answers including one about the status being "bypass" rather than forgiven. When I call **** of *** they don't know anything about it nor can I get it escalated any further there. They allegedly schedule a supervisor callback who never does. When I have filed complaints online, they close them without taking any action. It's absurdly frustrating. I've attached 1 of 8 of the credit report line items to show that they haven't done that.Business Response

I have reviewed the business' response and am deferring making a decision until such time as Mohela actually contacts me and provides a satisfactory solution. The reason I am not satisfied is that that in my personal experience with Mohela, they have established a pattern of behavior of deflection and ignoring customer responses. I simply cannot trust that they will ever contact me or, if they do, provide a useless generic response that in no way addresses the issue.
Sincerely,

In July ********************************************************* the amount of $ ******. I was told it could take up to 90 days to receive refund. I called monthly after 90 days. On most recent call there is no option to speak with a human when selecting Refund option; get automated response, "Refund requests are being handled in order received". I have reviewed the business' response and am rejecting it because: MOHELA is just laying blame on the Treasury. MOHELA is the processor of the loan and should be helping the borrower get any refunds. MOHELA has more of a line of communication with the Treasury than 1 of millions of borrowers. It's something, how I got my income tax refund from the Treasury in a couple weeks, and my husband received a VA refund within a couple months, but I am waiting on a MOHELA refund for almost a year. It's not the Treasury's fault, it's MOHELA's fault, it's obvious.MOHELA very promptly and consistently is able to deduct a payment from my bank account, but the can't process this refund in a timely manner. I don't have $139 dollars to throw around, and I didn't need them to remind me of my loan details, and that I could still make a payment. Just get me my refund.

I have student loans with Mohela, which services the federal student aid. I have been corresponding through both representatives and email about my student loans since August 2024 about a payment that they say I did not pay. However, I have provided a bank statement as proof (as suggested) that this payment was made. I have been calling Mohela and have sat on the phone for more than 2 hours at a time to discuss that my complaint and proof have not been updated.Business Response
