On 3/19/25, I sent a letter via. certified mail to Mohela **************** requesting the following: Proof of Claim, Chain of ************* Assignment of Debt, Purchase Agreement(s) and Proof of Debt Ownership, Securitization ********************* Loan Bond Verification, Original Promissory Note and Loan Documents, Proof of Authority to Collect, Conditional Acceptance of Payment, and Request for Cease and Desist of Adverse Actions. I don't have the green card from the certified letter yet, but I do have the original receipt that I wrote with the certified mail number, which when tracked on ****'s website shows the letter was received 3/27/25. On 3/29/25, I checked my credit score with Experian and saw that Mohela had reported the debt that I inquired about through certified mail on my credit report as a late payment, which is considered an adverse action. Furthermore, on the same day, I went to login to Mohela's website, that I have been able to login successfully in the past, but I was unable to, so I tried to register to make another account on their website and it said they could not find my account and/or that I did not have an account with them.Business Response

I was NEVER officially informed that my student loan was being transferred to Mohela. When I learned that it had been transferred, I attempted to call multliple times and email customer service because I wanted to get a forebearance for 2-3 months while I was paying for my daughter's college this semester. Mohela never responded but I get delinquency notices. Mohela does not return calls nor can I get ahold of anyone even after sitting on the line for 45 minutes. This is the most unprofessional company the run around is ridiculous. I just want to speak to someone to handle things appropriatelyBusiness Response

MOHELA continually requires me to wait on hold for many hours at a time. Their representatives continually tell me different information about what is or is not the problem and why they or cannot grant me the full amount of student loan forgiveness that Im due. Ive worked in secondary education for over five years now while meeting all the requirements for the full amount of teacher, loan forgiveness, and MOHELA will not honor the governments forgiveness policy. They are trying to approve me for $5000 worth of student loan forgiveness when I do qualify for $17,500 worth. If someone from the Better Business Bureau wants to reach out to me, I have seven months worth of recorded phone calls, messages, and emails that can help further prove their blatant disregard for what should happen.Business Response

I have reviewed the business' response and am rejecting it because: the company sent a letter dated 3/31/2025 stating that I received the maximum forgiveness amount. But, I received the minimum amount ($5000) even though I qualify for the maximum amount ($17,500).
Someone from the company called me today, asked several questions, located the second half of my application and letter from CAO, and then worked to escalate it.

I have 2 Major issues with Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority (MOHELA)I have requested deferment on my accounts as I recently graduated school and i have not found a job. I graduated in August 2024 which entitles me to a 6 month deferment. Yet when I login or call MOHELA they continue to say that I am delinquent. This is not possible and this is unacceptable. Additionally, my new request for different needs to be processed asap to ensure there are not issues with my credit or credit report. Now for the BIG no no! (MOHELA) has violated the ****** and the ******** MOHELA has been repeatedly reporting false and misleading information on my credit report, from account numbers and balances, payment due dates and payment accounts and Experian has failed to conduct proper investigations when I disputed these inaccuracies. A debt validation letter was sent to MOHELA and they still have not provided all documenation required by LAW! I have asked for my promissory notes with my signature and they have failed to provide them. In 03/2025 , MOHELA reported to ******** that my student loan account was being closed and transferred , which was completely false. ******** closed my dispute without proper verification. After falsely reporting a transfer, MOHELA reopened my account with a new balance, even though nothing had changed. This is clear manipulation of my credit file. On 03/27/25, MOHELA updated my report, falsely stating that my credit limit had increased. Student loans do not have credit limits, which means this is a blatant inaccuracy.Under the **** (15 U.S.C. 1681e(b)), MOHELA is required to maintain maximum possible accuracy, yet it is knowingly allowing false data to remain on my report.MOHELA has failed to provide verification of the information, which suggests they are not conducting a reasonable investigation as required under 15 U.S.C. 1681i(a)(1).Business Response

I REJECT MOHELAS automated RESPONSE!
A complaint was filed with the BBB under #******** on or around December 13, 2024, regarding the validation of a debt being reported on my credit report by MOHELA. Additionally, the attached letter was sent directly to MOHELA. As of today, March 28, 2025, MOHELA has failed to validate the debt as required by law and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
When the complaint was originally filed against MOHELA with the BBB back in December 2024, they provided the same auto-generated responses and failed to follow through with appropriate action. Their negligence is negatively impacting my financial well-being. I explicitly stated that I wanted accountability by having all correspondence take place through the BBB, as MOHELA has demonstrated a lack of integrity and cannot be trusted to do the right thing without oversight.
Furthermore, MOHELA should not be falsifying information on my credit report, nor should they be closing accounts they failed to maintain accuracy on in order to cover themselves. Intentionally reporting incorrect information by claiming that accounts were transferredonly to close them and subsequently reopen them with different amountsis a violation of the **** and other consumer protection laws.
This practice violates the following:
Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), 15 U.S.C. 1681s-2(a)(1)(A) (2025) (requiring accuracy in information furnished to consumer reporting agencies).
Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), 15 U.S.C. 1681e(b) (2025) (mandating reasonable procedures to assure maximum possible accuracy in consumer reports).
****-***** **** Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (UDAAP), 12 U.S.C. 5531 (2025) (prohibiting unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices).
I am requesting that the BBB hold MOHELA accountable for these violations and ensure that they take the necessary corrective actions. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.Customer Answer

I submitted an IDR form almost a year ago to MOHELA. The form was submitted along with a loan consolidation, same day. The loan consolidation went through, but MOHELA never processed my IDR. Every time I called, I got the run around. Three months later, a pause was put on certain loan repayment plans. The pause was later lifted, then paused again. In all the months that MOHELA could have processed my IDR, they refused. To resolve this issue, I ask that MOHELA process my IDR form, as is required by law, and that it be retroactive to the date I filed the form.Business Response

The hold time is unnecessarily and excessively long. I have been on hold for over 3 hours to try and talk to a representative about my loan forbearance. There is no other contact method available to get answers to the parts that I have. There is also no call back option being offered to me while on hold. I have erroneously been put into a forbearance that is accumulating interest, in direct contrast to current court injunctions due to the repayment program i am signed up for. Per the **** of education guidance regarding the court injunctions, i should be in a forbearance that is not accumulating interest, but my balance is increasing due to interest accumulation. I need to get this fixed and all erroneous interest removed from my balance.Again there is no way to get assistance with this outside of a phone call with a multi hour hold period.Business Response

I am unable to reach Mohela by phone. I have attempted to call on several dates. Most recently I was on hold for over 5 hrs before I had to hang up. I received and email stating my loan was coming to be due. I tried to log in online and was unsuccessful. I tried to contact mohela by phone several times and was unable to reach them. I then received an email stating my loan would be deferred. The next day I checked my credit report and my student loan dropped my credit 60 points. We are trying to buy a home and this is unfair. My loan is in deferment and I want this removed from my score. I want to pay monthly to pay my loan off.Business Response
