I was just scammed out of $1200 dollars for services that were never fulfilled in which I signed up for. I was assisted over the phone by a sales *** who informed me of the one time charge of $****** for 8 hours of tutoring for the month of June. No one informed me that this was going to be a membership when I spoke with the sales associate. I had 8 sessions and only used 2 which 1 of the 2 session's my tutor fired herself and credited back that session due to what I needed to learn on excel was out of her scope. Varsity tutors still has yet to find me a tutor that can assist me with the type of training I was lead to believe they had the ability to help me with, when I originally decided to move forward with payment. I had already considered this a lost of money when today I see a charge for an additional ******. When I called Varsity tutors their support team refused to help me in anyway saying I signed their contract for a membership. I asked if they can pull the recorded call because I was helped by their sales associate who walked me through that contract and was reassured this was for the 8 hour/sessions only. No one mentioned a membership anytime during the phone call. At this point I told them I don't even want the refund for the 7 other sessions I still have yet to receive but that this payment taken today on June 27th needs to be refunded back. Varsity tutors refused to assist any further stating they would cancel my membership and thats all they could do. The website and the sales *** are very misleading in what they are able to offer as well as the cost for the service. The company would not allow me to speak with a supervisor or anyone else to dispute this matter. At this time I want the full amount refunded back due to the company's lack of interest to assist with this matter at all.

I am filing a complaint against Varsity Tutors for misrepresentation of services, poor academic support, lack of professionalism, review suppression, and difficulty with cancellation. I paid $639 for calculus tutoring in May 2025 and received services that failed to meet basic expectations. On May 6, 2025, I enrolled for help with college calculus. I was promised expert, personalized support. Instead, the tutor constantly canceled or rescheduled due to a second job. The few sessions I attended were disorganized and unhelpful. I failed the course and am now forced to retake it. After another bad session, I tried to cancel on May 20. I couldnt reach anyone by phone and had to send multiple emails before getting a reply three days later. When I finally spoke with someoneafter being sent a direct numberI was pressured to stay enrolled and told to transfer my remaining hours to a family member. I had to insist multiple times before they finally canceled my accountall within the same month I started. The platform also featured games and digital tools that were irrelevant to my coursework and never used by me or my family. Though promoted as helpful, they added zero value to my tutoring. After this frustrating experience, I posted a fair, detailed review. Varsity Tutors removed it, claiming it wasnt genuine. Thats a lie. My review was 100% truthful and based on my lived experience. Instead of resolving the issue, they pressured me to add more detail instead of offering a refund. That felt like intimidationnot support. Worse, I used money my parents loaned me to pay for this service. I cant afford to repay them while also covering college expenses. This turned an academic failure into a financial one too. I am requesting a full refund of $639 due to poor tutoring, false promises, lack of access to help, pressure during cancellation, and removal of my honest review. I was misled, failed, silenced, and financially harmed. Varsity Tutors should be held accountable.

I paid for 8 tutoring sessions. Was not informed that this was a reoccurring charge. I was charged for a second set of 8 sessions, which I did not request. i called 3 days after noticing the charge hit my card and was told they have a strict no refund policy.I only used 4 of my initial 8 sessions, but was then billed for an additional 8. they are unwilling to refund the second charge.

I called Varsity Tutoring on May 20th or 21st to setup tutoring for my high school aged daughter. It was very disappointing because it was virtual only, but we decided to use the company anyway. I was told that it would be $349 for 4 hrs. and nothing was ever discussed about a membership fee or that it would be recurring. Then today 6/20I received a pending charge from my bank for $868.14. I called Varsity Tutoring on the phone and they told me that they were charging another membership fee of $349, plus $519.14 for 4 hrs. from last month. I was told the $349.00 ($87.25 hr.) is also owed. Now they are saying that was the membership fee that they failed to disclose. Not only was this not as helpful as we hoped, but we ended up using Mathnasium Round Rock which was in person and $400. for 5 hrs.. (80 hr.) which I thought was a better price because it wasn't just virtual. Looking on line from employees on **** today, they state that Varsity Charges $60 an hour, which makes me feel like I over paid as well for the $349 amount. With the pending charge to my bank, it will be a total of $1217.14 paid for 5 hrs. of tutoring which is criminal without consent. I am very disappointed that I was charged a membership fee after stating that we only needed tutoring for two days, being charged for 4 hours of tutoring that was never used, being charged for a new membership renewal fee and charging my bank account without sending a written letter for approval of charges.

On April 21, I spoke with ****** ***** over the phone, a sales representative at Varsity Tutors. I purchased a four-session package for $350 with the intent to start small and see if the service met my needs. During the sales call, I was explicitly told that a satisfaction guarantee refund would be available if I was not happy with the tutoring. This promise was a key factor in choosing this business. The experience was extremely disappointing. Had to replace tutor, then new tutor repeatedly canceled sessions, which caused major delays and stressespecially given that my sessions were time-limited and set to expire. Despite attending the sessions that did happen, my test scores did not improve, and the support I received was inadequate. When I attempted to invoke the satisfaction guarantee, I was told it only applied to Professional Studies clients, an exclusion that was never mentioned during the sales conversation. This is a bait-and-switch tactic, and the guarantee was clearly misrepresented to secure my business.Worse, I was unknowingly enrolled in a recurring monthly subscription, something that was never disclosed to me. I was charged a second $350 payment without my knowledge or consent, bringing the total to $700 for a service that failed to deliver on its promises. This is a clear case of misrepresentation, unauthorized billing, and deceptive business practices. I am requesting a full refund of $700 and a formal investigation into Varsity Tutors sales and billing practices. I urge the Better Business Bureau to take action to protect other consumers from this misleading and unethical behavior

Varsity Tutors making recurring charges to my credit card and they are unable to look up where in their system to cancel it. I never contracted with them or authorized charges.I also provided them my phone number which they said they found no account in their system under. This left me with no direct option to resolve with them forcing me to work through my bank.

I signed up with Varsity Tutors for a financial class. I had called to cancel the membership as I had only used 2 out of the 4 hours. I spoke with someone from the company. They didn't want me to cancel and advised I pause the membership. I told them I didnt think I was going to need them any more as I only had one more accounting class and likely wouldnt need tutoring. They pushed on pausing and I agreed. I set a reminder to call on 6/16 as that was the day she told me to call and could cancel if I wasnt going to need it. I called and was told the pause was for one month, and they cannot refund my money. I told him the *** had recommended I call on 6/16 to cancel he said it was too late and that I was charged already on 6/16. He kept trying to talk me into using the 4 hours and offering that someone in my family could also use it. He also let me know that I would have access to a summer program if I needed anything. I requested and am still requesting a refund for the 349 dollars as I do not need the tutoring.

Subject: Complaint Against Varsity Tutors for Unauthorized Charges and Refusal to Refund To Whom It May Concern:I am writing to formally file a complaint against Varsity Tutors regarding unauthorized charges deducted from my account and the companys subsequent refusal to issue a refund. On June5,2025, Varsity Tutors deducted fees ($830) from my account that I did not authorize. I did not agree to these charges, nor was I informed in advance that my account would be billed. Upon noticing the unauthorized deductions, I immediately contacted Varsity Tutors customer service to request a full refund and an explanation for these charges.Despite multiple attempts to resolve this matter directly with Varsity Tutors, the company has not refunded the unauthorized fees. Their representatives have not provided a satisfactory explanation or resolution, and I continue to be out of pocket for services I did not agree to purchase. This experience has caused me considerable frustration and inconvenience. I am seeking the following resolution:1.A full refund of all unauthorized charges deducted from my ***************** confirmation that no further unauthorized charges will be made.3.An explanation for how these unauthorized charges occurred.I am providing documentation of the charges and my correspondence with Varsity Tutors as supporting evidence.Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope the BBB can assist in resolving this issue fairly and promptly.

I called Varsity Tutors to get tutoring help with test prep on one of my College classes. I confirmed with the representative on the phone at Varsity Tutors that I only needed four sessions, two times a week to assist me in my test prep for my statistics class. She confirmed that I could just do the four sessions. She gave me options 4 or 8 sessions and I told her i just need the four sessions two times a week. She told me that was absolutely doable. I paid for those confirmed session over the phone. I have a screen shot from Varsity Tutors that shows confirmation of a one month plan: 4 Tutoring hours/month for $349.00 /month with a membership term from April 10th to May 10 - Not auto renewing. This term/agreement was found in my account on the App on my phone. I took a screenshot of this page which I have uploaded for reference/evidence supporting my claim. I also have a video recording of me pulling up my account on the app and clicking the link that says: view membership plan which is where I got the screenshot that I have uploaded. I can provide this video as well if needed. Varsity Tutors continued to charge my card for the next two months. One again in May and another payment in June. Again, my membership account on the app shows "no auto renew". I called the company to request a refund. The representative said, he cannot refund the charges but instead wanted to give me an additional six months of tutoring in place of a refund. I do not need more tutoring, I need a refund for the months of May and June. My membership was only for the month of April. I am seeking a full refund in the amount of $698.00 for the months of May and June, I do not need more tutoring and I did not authorize Varsity Tutors to charge my card after the initial four sessions in the month of April. Tutoring services were not used in the month of May or June on my account.

I have reviewed the business' response and am rejecting it because: Varsity's attempts to contact me were in fact successful. It is imperative that a business providing a service show themselves to be truthful and honest which Varsity has not done. Varsity did send me a full refund as was due to me and then a follow up email and phone call after the refund was sent. Varsity also responded to my online complaint I submitted. I have been very responsive to communications with Varsity. I do not appreciate Varsity's auto generated response to the BBB implicating that I am an unresponsive party to this complaint. But I do appreciate Varsity providing me a full refund in a timely manner.

Complaint Summary:I was charged $1,917 for three monthly billing cycles of a tutoring plan when I had only intended to purchase one 8-hour package for my daughter. Two of these charges were unauthorized, no services were used beyond the initial plan, and the contract was signed by a minor, violating Varsity Tutors own Terms of Use.Complaint Details:In March 2024, my 16-year-old daughter, *****, signed up for an 8-hour SAT tutoring plan from Varsity Tutors at a cost of $639. This was meant as a one-time purchase to help prepare for her May SAT exam, and she completed all 8 hours as planned.Despite this, Varsity Tutors charged us again in April and May$639 each monthtotaling $1,917 over three billing cycles. We received no notice that the plan was a recurring subscription, nor were we alerted before the additional charges. I only discovered them through my credit card statement. No services were used beyond the first 8 hours, which Varsity Tutors confirmed.Their response was to deny a refund and instead offer tutoring hours we cannot use. More critically, the agreement was signed by *****, who is a minor. Varsity Tutors own Clause 4.21 states: "You must be at least 18 years of age to use the Site and Services." Since ***** was 16, she did not have the legal capacity to enter this agreement, making the contract invalid.Desired Resolution:I am requesting a refund of $1,278 for the two additional billing cycles that were charged without consent or services provided. The charges are unsupported by a valid agreement and should be reversed.

BBB Business Profiles generally cover a three-year reporting period, except for customer reviews. Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.

As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
