My son had only five weeks left in his college semester for Calculus 3 when I purchased an 8-session package for $639.00, which I was told was a one-time purchase. Unfortunately, the documentation I received outlined a recurring monthly plan. While I acknowledge that I should've paid closer attention to the fine print, I believe this reflects poorly on the company's ethics, especially given the disconnect between the phone support and the actual service agreement. To make matters worse, the tutors lacked a solid understanding of the Calculus 3 material and offered no meaningful help. Be cautious: what you're told may differ significantly from what you're given.

I used Varsity Tutors for my son in Geometry. Great tutor but they continue to charge me monthly even though they hadnt had a session for over a month and a half because it is the summer. I paid for four sessions a month at $279. I tried to cancel and get a refund and was told my membership didnt allow that because it was past the billing date. They didnt tell me it was a membership. So they would have continued to charge me $279/month even with no tutoring sessions (meaning they werent paying my tutor either). It is a scam when you continue to bill for services that are not being used and then blame the customer for not canceling.

The service is fine. Their billing practice is UNETHICAL. I took on a membership for my son to get math tutoring- we used them through the school year and I asked that our account and charges be suspended during summer when my son wouldnt need the service. They continued to bill my card despite my request to stop the service. There site states that the only way to cancel the account is to do so by calling their customer service line. I have tried that 3 times - each time once I state my intent they disconnected the call. I would give them 0 stars were it possible. I am disputing the charges with my credit card company.. do yourself a favor and do not do business with varsity tutors

signed my daughter up for public speaking tutoring to help her gain confidence and become comfortable speaking in front of both small and large groups. However, the entire experience has been incredibly disheartening and unprofessional. The tutor we were initially paired with clearly had no public speaking expertise. From the very first session, they asked questions completely unrelated to public speaking they thought they were there to help my daughter sell a product for a business! It was only after I jumped in that the tutor admitted they had no idea this was meant to be a public speaking session. It felt as though they hadnt read the notes at all.Beyond this confusion, the tutor was completely unprepared. Her hair was messy, and she appeared to have rolled straight out of bed. The session lasted only 15 minutes because there was clearly no plan, and my daughter gained absolutely nothing from it.When I called **************** to address this issue, my experience went from bad to worse. The representative, ********, was dismissive and unhelpful it felt more like an interrogation than someone trying to resolve my issue. I explained repeatedly that my daughter had been paired with the wrong tutor and what we originally requested. And when I finally spoke with ******* after the tutoring session, she implied that the time would still come out of our paid hour, even though the issue was entirely on their end. Only after I pushed back did she agree to put that hour back but the entire tone was as though this was somehow my ******** a new customer, this experience was awful. The sales representative, ******* was wonderful at the beginning, but the follow-through was terrible. **************** failed at every level: they didnt listen, they didnt resolve the issue efficiently, and they showed no empathy or understanding of my frustration.I truly hope the owner of this company takes this feedback seriously. I cannot recommend this company.

I had a terrible experience with Varsity Tutors, they put you on automatic renewal so they can bill your credit card without your knowledge. I only wanted 4 sessions of portuguese language but found out they put me on a membership auto renewal. I tried to cancel but need to pay up another $349.0. No disclosures upfront! They are an ********* company!

I am 41 YO male that decided very late in life that I wanted to address my reading and comprehension problems that Ive had my entire life. I searched for a tutor on ****** and Varsity Tutors was one of the first to show up. The reviews were mostly excellent with very few negatives. I went for it and filled out the request form, and received a call shortly thereafter. We discussed the options, and agreed to a $511 per month plan that would entail 8 tutor session at 2 seseions per week. The representative stated 1 month would be more than adequate. I was under the impression that on her end, that was taken care of because at the time i believed it was an agreement that wouldn't not end with me not being reimbursed if i fulfilled my one month plan. The Tutors they assigned me were unorganized despite talking with them by chat the night before with concerns. After 1 month, I had gone through 2 Tutors and only 4 sessions due to the moving my tutor was doing and a conflict in scheduling. In addition to this, I was charged for another month because of the communication issue when I signed up. I acknowledge my fault, but asked for mercy because I couldn't afford another month. The representative stated she couldn't refund, but promised me an additional 4 hours to make up for the 4 I lost in the first month and an additional 4 as a courtesy. She stated it would be reflected on May 17th. That never happened, and after having not really got to the point of growth in my reading and comprehension skills that I was told I could expect in a month from the 2 month long membership, I would rather be reimbursed than waste my time with these unprepared Tutors.I absolutely do NOT recommend Varsity Tutors and their rigid financial rules and policies. Find someone local that is much more trustworthy, honest, not a scammer, and easy to work with. The response below shows how little you mean to them. They rather you communicate back to them through AI and SMS chat

Most unethical cash grabbing company ever! Do yourself a favor and stay away! They will charge you a crazy fee if your tutor goes over the allotted time by even a minute, so watch your time extremely closely!! They seriously hold you accountable and expect you to hang up on your tutor mid sentence. It's a shame they are so greedy, the tutor I had was actually good, but even the tutors don't like how unethical varsity is..... **** varsity and find your a tutor on your own!

BUYER BEWARE! If I could write 0 stars I would. A ***************** that allowed my MINOR son to enroll in a recurring CONTRACT without parental consent. SO much time on the phone and email to resolve a refund. Still not resolved! Horrible business practice for very mediocre service - Look elsewhere!

If I could leave ZERO stars I would. This is truly based on their corporate client experience and payments. They have been charging me almost 2 years $49 per month and I had canceled this! I would look for other tutoring options. I am currently filing with the BBB they will say your account is canceled and then keep charging you.

NEVER CONDUCT BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. A SCAM AT ITS FINEST!!!! I signed my son up with Varsity Tutors at the beginning of February 2025. I was very clear with the company at the start that I only wanted to sign up for two months (total of 8 sessions) total. The agreement was $299 per month. Our two months ended and I received a unexpected additional charge for $569. When I called billing to inquire about this, I was told that I was supposed to call to cancel the membership despite me specifying that I only could afford and wanted two months during the consultation and the initiation of activation of membership. They also up charged me additionally because my son's sessions went over without my knowledge or consent. When I called The people in billing about this, they continued to repeat that their policy would not refund me and if I needed to talk to someone higher up, I would have to wait ***** hours for a response and that the response could come in an email and not a phone call. I explained very clearly to the billing people, that this additional charge has created a significant hardship and that I really need to reach a solution on this matter today. I also expressed how when signing up for this, the policies were unclear and that the sales agent I handled business with was misleading with the agreement of this membership; specifically, the agent made it sound like the company couldn't charge more than 1 month at a time, therefore, I would not be obligated to continue after month 1 of the sessions. The billing people kept repeating the no refund policy. The billing guy did agree that there was some gray areas about my membership and he understood my frustration. Then he continued to repeat this unreasonable policy. I am thoroughly disguised by the way business was conducted with Varsity and will never recommend this company.
