Interacted with this business on 2/13/25 due to auto accident. I provided the employee information he requested prior to being directed into an ambulance by a police officer. I requested the vehicle be towed to my home address. Driver's license and credit card were provided to the tow truck driver. I agreed to the quoted price. Ives Towing decided to take the vehicle to the impound lot. I contacted and visited them multiple times. The price to get my vehicle home only increased with each encounter. I handed over my title in order to retrieve personal belongings from the vehicle. The title has erroneous information printed from the State of ********. I would like to obtain the title so that I can order a replacement. Ives states this is not acceptable. The legal owners of the vehicle would simply either like the vehicle back or to get all legal and title issues resolved prior to disposal. Ives is unwilling to remit the title. I understand this would cause new fees to begin accumulating. They are holding my erroneous title as leverage to either sell the vehicle for scrap or force me to pay substantially more than the initial service I agreed to.Business Response

On Feb 13 our company responded to a call from the Arnold ** ************ for an accident on the HWY 141 entrance ramp to I 55 in *********. Mr. ***** arrived on scene as it was his partner that was in the accident. Mr. ***** asked about us taking the vehicle to his house,Due to Mr. ***** being called to the ambulance where his partner and child were in, and not getting any phone number or contact information, ****** officers requested we take the vehicle to our impound yard in order to open back up the highway. Mr. ***** later called the office and asked if he could get his Childs things out of the vehicle. We explained the procedure and asked if he has turned the accident into his insurance company. He responded no that they car only had liability insurance. Under MO towing laws we are not required to allow the customer access to the vehicle without fees being paid first, however we allowed him to access the vehicle to get the baby things out. Mr. ***** left and later came back into the office and asked more questions about turning over the title to the vehicle in lieu of fees. It was explained that the vehicle would be taken to the scrap yard and destroyed. He wanted to know if we were going to part it out, he was told we are not able to do that,we are not a salvage facility and do not sell parts, the car would be destroyed. The title is to insure to the scrap yard that the vehicle is not stolen, it doesn't need to be signed.
Turning over titles in lieu of fees is a common practice in towing facilities allowing the vehicle owner to not have to come up with any monies, or ways to remove a wrecked vehicle from the property. Unlike other companies we do not charge a fee for this service.
I have attached pictures of the totaled vehicle as well as the receipt given to Mr. ***** with the notation that he was turning over the vehicle title in lieu of fees.

I have reviewed the business' response and am rejecting it because:The business response is untrue. The tow driver had my driver's license, credit card number, and phone number. We went straight home from the accident scene. The company could have easily attempted to return the vehicle to my home residence. The company knew they could easily get away with taking it to their property in order to claim additional fees instead of the agreed upon rate during the initial encounter. The company even agreed the evening of 2/13/25, that they made an error and offered to return the vehicle to my house, but at a higher price. As for the title now in the company possession, I have requested this be returned in order for me to do correcting entries with the State of Missouri. The State informed me that since the title is still in existence, I should return the erroneous title in order to obtain a corrected title. Ives states that they will not release anything without fees paid in full, which are again much higher than originally agreed upon. I understand this business practice may be their standard procedure. I am not seeking to take the car without fees, simply the title in order to rectify the improper info listed on the title. I am uncomfortable having the vehicle disposed of without valid documentation in place to accompany that destruction. Ultimately, I would have preferred to have the car returned to my residence but out of principle, I was unwilling to pay increasingly higher fees at every encounter with this company. I accept that the company may end up getting to do as they please in this situation. At a minimum, I am looking to highlight the disingenuous nature and inappropriate methods being used against the consumer.
Sincerely,
******* *****Business Response

Our Company has been in business since 1956. His vehicle no matter what he thought he did the police agency that called us for the accident requested it be impounded in our lot to open the highway. I am not sure in what world Mr. ***** thinks that a company will take a vehicle without complete information. I am curious how they went directly home from the accident scene when his partner and child were in an ambulance. His assertation of what happened is simply not a procedure any tow company would do. There was no time to enter his call, he took back his id and credit card ( we collect upon completion of each job not before) to go to the ambulance. I find it hard to believe that the ************** of Revenue would issue a title with erroneous information, and if Mr. ***** knowingly turned over a title that he felt was erroneous that he would not have. We had already allowed him access to the baby equipment in the car. In all our years of towing we have never had a problem like this. The vehicle is scheduled to be sent for destruction next week. We have offered Mr. ***** to come in a sign the title, he tells us he will but he has not shown up. I am not sure what Mr. ****** doesn't understand about this procedure. If he believes we're somehow scamming him, we are not making money on getting the vehicle destroyed, it is not sold for parts, and we get paid less than the tow bill would be. We have to make room in our tow yard.Customer Answer

I have reviewed the business' response and am rejecting it because:This matter will not likely be settled in this channel. Turning into a battle of verbal assertations that can never be confirmed. I can answer a few of the company's points. The family was released from the ambulance and returned to the home residence. I took back my credit card and license when the company operator stated he was finished with them, after he appeared to take a picture of them or enter them into his cell phone. Also, how do you collect information after completion of a job but yet you will not tow to a residence without full information? That seems to be a cycle that only allows vehicles to be taken to the company location and force customers to "sort things out", after you have begun accruing impound and vehicle re-hitching fees. The title has errors that were realized after the title was already in Ives' possession. I cannot sign as the inaccurate owners are listed on said title. That would be forgery. A new title would be required to properly assign ownership and notify the State of Missouri of a transfer.
Sincerely,
******* *****Initial Complaint

Ives towing was contacted by the ********* ****** Sheriffs Department to tow a trailer from a residence. The owner of the trailer is *** ******* *********. ****** and her husband? were given multiple opportunities to get their items out of the trailer, they would set a time to come and then would not show up. At one point a pregnant woman and an older woman came to take items out of the trailer. We have been trying since 10-25 to get the owner of the trailer to pick it up. There are outstanding tow and storage fees owned that have not been paid. The husband? called multiple times and either wanted to come when we are closed. We explained numerous times our hours and it was refused. Due to the length of time we have had the trailer and since no payment has been received, under Mo law as a tow company we can request payment of reasonable storage and tow fees before we release the contents of the trailer. We have tried to work with ****** and husband? numerous times however they are unwilling to work out a time and pay a storage fee for us to release the contents. attached are numerous emails directed to *** ******* ********* * ******* ********** ****** as well as texts received from the husband. Again we would be happy to work with ****** however we need to do this when we are open and some payments needs to be arranged. I am unable to upload the emails associated with this due to only four attachments are allowed
