I took a 1000.00$ loan out with TBO Atlas bank in Aug 2024. I knew the rates were higher but I just checked that it hasn’t paid down. It states I owe over 1500$. When I called to speak to a representative they told me they charge $15 daily interest fees and my loan will be paid in July 2026. This is horrid practice

On 11/2023, I foolishly took out a loan while I was overseas, just to float me by. I asked if there were any prepayment penalties and the answer was no. When I got back and looked at the interest rate, it was over 330%. Which is RIDICULOUS. It is now 5/2025, and Ive paid over 7,000 on a 1500.00 loan. I am filing a complaint on unsavory business practices, as well as looking into legal action, because to be paying over 200.00 every other week and to still not put a dent in a loan is insane. I've had plenty of loans over the years but this takes the cake.

My loan with this company is well above the legal limit of 10% for small loans issued in California. However, I have previously accepted a Settlement offer so I can pay $33 a week and for interest charges to be frozen while I pay off the Settlement. The company will not respond to 3 emails about my Settlement and now it says it has been assessed for sale to a third party collection agency. I have been attempting to contact them and they will not reply. I scheduled a payment of $33 on 4/25 as per my Settlement agreement as it said "Next Payment Due 4/25". The payment has never come out and did not even show in my scheduled payment activity. I emailed this company as soon as I saw my account status had changed. Now I can't even see my account information online because it says it is being referred to be sold to a collection agency. I have never seen a company refuse to reply to emails and then to refer to a collections agency so quickly. I have been trying to email the company and emailing 2 different email address and no one will reply. I tried to call them but it says they closed at 5PM Central Time and their website says 6PM Central Time. I have been paying this Settlement for 31 weeks and now within days they are saying my account is being sold to collections. I am attempting to communicate but lender is refusing to reply. My scheduled payment has still not come out and I am willing to continue this Settlement agreement with this lender if they reply to me and reinstate my $33 per week payment with the interest frozen. I cannot even access my account online anymore to see my payment history or initial Settlement that I accepted. My balance was around $1700 but they have blocked my account and I cannot see any information anymore. I demand they reinstate my Settlement Offer and continue to freeze the interest as previously agreed. I am willing to continue to make payments of $33 a week but company will not reply to me.

They failed to mention the interest rate and did not send documentation in time to cancel, I did not receive it until I was making several payments. The loan is paid off but it is showing I have to pay 10k in interest rates and fees. This doesn't make sense. I tried calling support and using the app but was not successful with either. It also says I signed on the documents and they were not signed by me. I have paid the loan back. I no longer want business with this company. I have even paid more than I should have.

TBO Bank operates in accordance with state and Federal laws and
regulations. TBO Bank is a FDIC-insured bank and not a state-licensed
lender. Under Federal law, a FDIC-insured bank may charge interest on loans at
the interest rate allowed by the laws of the state where the bank is located.
The state where a bank is located depends on where the bank is chartered (its
home state), where it maintains branches, and the state(s) in which three
non-ministerial functions of loan-making occur: loan approval (i.e., the
decision to extend credit), extension of credit (i.e., the first communication
of final approval of the loan), and disbursal of the loan proceeds.
A bank is located in its home state and may export its home
state’s interest rate when lending to a borrower in a different state if all of
the non-ministerial loan functions occur in its home state. This Federal law
preempts (i.e., supersedes) state law.  TBO Bank is a Missouri bank and
all of the non-ministerial functions with respect to the loan that occurred in
Missouri. As a result, the maximum interest rate permitted is governed by
Missouri law. When customers request a loan account, they are required to
view and electronically sign the Installment Loan Agreement, which includs the
Truth-In-Lending Disclosures. In those disclosures, we provide the frequency
of payments, the Annual Percentage Rate (APR), the finance charge, the number
of payments, and the amount of each payment in a clear and conspicuous manner.
The borrower then agrees to the terms of the loan before they can ever receive any funds.

I am writing again to formally dispute the handling and processing of the loan I received from the loan company I had stated before, in the original amount of $1,600. I am deeply concerned about the lack of transparency, the unauthorized use of my electronic signature, and the egregiously inflated fees being charged.
First and foremost, I was never provided with full disclosure of the terms and conditions before the loan was approved. The required documentation was only made available after the loan had already been finalized—this is in direct violation of fair lending practices and truth-in-lending disclosure laws.
Additionally, I did not authorize the use of my electronic signature for the agreement. If you are in possession of documents bearing my e-signature, I demand a full audit trail of the IP address, timestamps, and confirmation methods used, as I did not give informed or explicit consent to bind myself to those terms.
Since receiving the loan, I have repaid over $2,200, which is already significantly more than the original principal borrowed. I am now being told that I owe over $10,000—a figure that is not only unreasonable but predatory and exploitative. They want to settle it at 500 but like I said before as well, I do not want o throw anymore of my money away to this company. Thank you so much for your support!

I received a loan that was not what I was expecting. The information was not clearly listed on what the monthly amount would be. I took out $2,000 and have made 4 payments of $455.48 and the amount oweing on the loan is at $2,193.58 I am not sure how that is possible when I do the interest rates myself the amount should be under that. Annual percentage was also higher that I thought it was going to be and the loan document that I looked at online says it is 295.2084%, which is higher than the 120% rate I was expecting based on information that showed on the app I used to file. By the time that I realized the loans full details the small and very specific window to cancel had passed and I have been stuck with this high monthly payment that doesn't seem to be reducing the balance but increasing each month. I have not missed a payment and they have been on time so no fees should be associated with the account. I had received a loan from them once before and that loan made sense, the balance was also decreasing and I was able to financially pay it off without issues. However, I don't know if it is because once I finished this loan they partnered with TBO bank, so it went from Atlas Bank to TBO bank, and that is the reason that this loan appears to be much different from one I had prior but it was not was I expected. I have a good standing with this company but I feel that the second time that I used their services it is not at all like the previous one and I feel that I was tricked into this financial burden that I am not capable of paying down based on how the balance continues to increase.

I am submitting this complaint regarding what I believe to be predatory and deceptive lending practices by Atlast by TBO Bank. I took out a loan of $2,000 on September 25, 2024, and to date, I have repaid $2,281.65. Despite this, I still owe a remaining balance of approximately $1,900—nearly the full amount of the original loan.

At the time I took out this loan, I was in a financially vulnerable position and urgently needed funds to cover basic expenses. The loan with an Annual Percentage Rate (APR) of 198.4544%, and a finance charge of $5,909.72 on just $2,000 borrowed. These terms are predatory and exploitative.

Under the Illinois Predatory Loan Prevention Act (PLPA), 815 ILCS 123, lenders are prohibited from issuing loans with an APR over 36%. Loans that exceed this threshold are considered null and void, and lenders are not legally permitted to collect, receive, or retain any principal, interest, or associated fees.

I respectfully request that the BBB assist in resolving this matter by:
    1. Requiring the lender to provide a full, itemized statement of payments and charges.
    2. Demanding an immediate stop to any further collection activity, including automatic withdrawals.
    3. Ensuring the lender acknowledges the potential illegality of the loan terms under Illinois law and waives the remaining balance.

I am also prepared to file formal complaints with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) if this issue is not promptly and fairly addressed.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    Customer Answer

I took out a $2,000 loan with Atlas by TBO Bank because I was really struggling financially and needed money fast. I didn’t fully realize how bad the terms were at the time because I was desperate and just trying to stay afloat.

Since then, I’ve paid back $2,281.65, but they’re still saying I owe almost $1,900. I recently looked back at the paperwork and saw that the loan had a 198.4544% APR and a finance charge of $5,909.72 — for just a $2,000 loan. That’s ridiculous and feels completely predatory, especially since I was in a vulnerable spot when I agreed to it.

I live in Illinois, and I found out that loans here aren’t even supposed to go above 36% APR because of the Predatory Loan Prevention Act (815 ILCS 123). I feel like they took advantage of me and broke the law doing it.

    I’m asking for:

Them to stop collecting any more money from me, and for the remaining balance to be cleared out.

If this isn’t resolved, I plan on also reaching out to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

Thanks for helping me with this.

There is NO way I would agree to a loan for $1600 and end up paying back $11271.52. I literally just did this loan 10 mins ago. When you are doing the application process and "signing" the papers it tells you how much you will pay from which account and then it tells you your loan amount. Once you agree and sign your approved and then you get a email with 4 pages of $108 monthly payments with a APR of 342.1217% What in the world!!!! I don't even want it any more. The phone number on my loan phone number isn't even a valid number and is no longer in service.

I entered into a loan with Atlas Finance on 9/27/24 for $2000 for weekly payments of $115.97.

I was making payments thinking the loan was being paid off plus interest. However, after speaking with customer service I was told the $115.97 was only interest.

I lost my job and couldn't afford some payments and those those payments were attached to the original loan amount which is now $2347.91.

The interest is $308.1522% which is illegal and predatory. Finance charge $10,0057.78. Total payments of $12,057.78.

    I have paid $3131.19.

The company has changed and is now TBO bank. I wrote them complaining about the unfair, outrageous terms of the loan and how I want out of this loan.

This is what they offered: Reduced Payoff Plan-
Payments will be set up on your current payment cycle
    Interest frozen on the account
Payoff for an equal or lesser amount of the remaining loan balance.

I have already exceeded what I borrowed and I don't want to give them any more money/payments. This has to be a violation of the law.
