On April 22nd, 2025 at approximately 8:10 am I parked in the “Retail Parking” section of College View in Starkville, MS. I was scheduled to take an exam in the testing center in that plaza. Upon entering the testing center, I received a valid parking permit for the day and promptly placed it in my car’s windshield as they instructed. I then went ahead and took my exam which ended around 9:40 am. Once I returned back to where I parked, I noticed my car was gone. I went back to the testing center to speak to them about the situation and we found out that the car had been towed by Ratliff towing around 9:05 am. They stated that this had never been an issue with other people parking in the same spot. The manager of the testing center spoke with a representative from the towing company who first said I was parked in the wrong spot. The manager stated that this was not true because that is where I was supposed to park and other students have also parked their with no issues. When that lie was debunked they then stated I was double parked on the line and that no one could park next to me. Upon arriving to the towing company to pick up my vehicle, I asked for picture proof of me being double parked. The man I spoke with showed me one picture of the front of the vehicle which did not appear to be double parked at all. Then he changed the story and said that I had not parked closed enough to the curb and the backend of my car was too far in the street, but there was no proof of that shown to me. I then asked him to send me the one picture he showed me (on his iPhone) and he told me I would have to call back the main phone number and request the picture that way, despite me offering to give him my cell phone number right then and there for the picture. Ultimately, I paid $200 in cash because he said that his card machine was not working… to retrieve my car which he stated was a “discount” due to the circumstances surrounding the tow.

After towing my vehicle, I arrived to the business to retrieve my car. Online, the business is listed as 24 hours. However, the gate was locked and no one seemed to be around. After calling the help number posted and receiving no response after 3 tries, I waited and called once more. I was informed by the business owner that they had closed only 30 minutes before, and would not have anyone back out to release my vehicle. After explaining that I had to drive home 2 hours away, and had class and work in the morning, he told me the earliest someone could be in would be the following day at 10. After having to lodge up in a city I am not from for a night, I return the next day to attempt to retrieve my car ONCE more. Again, no one is here. I call the number again twice with no response, and I get an answer on the third try. I’m told that the only driver in for the day has left and will be gone for another hour. At this point, I’m quite frustrated. Still in the same clothes at yesterday in a city I am not familiar with, I return as I am told and there is still no one willing to return me my car. When I express this annoyance to the owner over the phone, he then yells and asks if I want to be charged double. The service I’ve received from this business has been absolutely deplorable, and I have still yet to have my vehicle released to me.
