We contracted with Superior Construction in October 2023 for a basement remodeling project. We paid half of the project cost upfront as the deposit per the request of the company. The project started in December 2023. At first all was well. Then in February 2024, installation was put in, Then no word from Superior until June 2024. My husband filed a complaint with BBB as we were told the company could not find a sheet rock installer to their standards. *** and ****** then suffered a series of health issues and the work continued to stall. My husband bought the sheet rock materials and paid a ***************** to complete the work in November 2024. We then discovered that the electrician installed the wrong breaker and wire to power the ac unit. Superior made no effort to fix or correct. We had to remove the Sheetrock and pay another electrician to rewire for the unit, and we then paid out of pocket to the ********* company to repair. Superior then asked us to pick out flooring for our project In February of 2025. We have never heard back. We have called, left several voice mail messages and text messages, and have received no response back from Superior Construction. The permit for our project has expired. We called code enforcement, only to be told that we would have to pay another electrician surety bond of $2,000 to obtain another permit to finish the project. I am utterly dismayed. This is a breach of duty of care, concern, and contract.

On June 6, 2024, I signed a contract with the Superior Construction for roof replacement placing a $4466.00 (50% of total) check payment. The verbal agreement was work would begin within two weeks, barring inclement weather. It has now been almost 4 months, and no word on when work will actually begin. I have not been contacted by the company a single time that was not instigated by me. After contacting them myself, I was given several excuses over the months, including having to replace the roofing crew, as to why work was delayed and I allowed extra time. I am tired of waiting with no time frame of actual work and simply want a full refund. I left a voice mail three weeks ago stating such, left another voice mail requesting contact later that week, and left another voice mail the following week. It has now been a month since any contact. At this point I can only assume this is an attempt to defraud.

We got this all settled with the customer.

    Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:

While communication has improved greatly, the work had not been completed nor do I have an official start date for the work after over five months. I feel more confident the work will happen soon, and when it is completed I will edit this complaint as satisfactory.

I am rejecting this response because:

This is my second complaint against this company. On June 6, 2024, I signed and paid $4,466.00 toward a contract for roof replacement to begin within two weeks, barring inclement weather. No work done, no start date given since that time. After a couple of months, I placed a BBB complaint which was answered by the company several months later. I assumed the issue would actually be resolved. It is now SEVEN months since the initial quote of work beginning, and still no progress in any capacity aside from excuse after excuse. I have ZERO faith the work will occur. I want the money that I now consider stolen to be returned to me in full.

Mr. *******: Superior Construction and Remodeling apologizes that your roof has not been replaced as we discussed the roofer was in the mountains doing disaster relief   for those so much in need, then he returned about the time *** had a heart attack  and had to have a triple bypass surgery. *** was the one handling this due to me dealing with some cancer issues. We are both on the mend and hope to be back at work very soon and take care of you and all our customers that have been waiting on us  to get better. Please forgive us and let us complete our agreement  so you will have in our opinion the best roof available. we will be able to complete our agreement shortly if allowed            *** and ******

    Customer Answer

    Date: 01/06/2025

I am rejecting this response because:

I honestly feel awful saying this, but a part of me doubts the veracity of these excuses, because there have been so many excuses. My contract was signed and agreed upon WELL before the hurricane. WELL before the heart issues and the first I am hearing about cancer issues and the car wreck and the firing/staffing issues and the "finding a roofing crew that lives up to out standards" and, and, and... . Also, there are three primary employees listed on the BBB portal. One of them could refund my money. You took my check with little hesitation. Let's do the same with returning it. I do not trust this company to complete this work. I do not trust this company to stand by their work if an issue arises.(If it takes this long to start work, I can only imagine how long it will take to fix potential problems.) I want a refund from ANY employee that can hand me a check so I can actually do the work my house desperately needs. That is the only outcome I will accept at this point.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 03/05/2025

I am rejecting this response because:

Superior Construction has performed zero work aside from cashing my check. The last contact with Superior Construction was on January 24, 2025. I reiterated the only option at this time is a full refund. Superior Construction agreed, and stated the refund would be delivered within two weeks. I have not heard from them since. Two weeks is a pattern this company uses often for delay after delay.

Construction to finish our basement started on 12/12/23. Framing, electrical rough in and plumbing rough in were done in a few days. Even though the contract said we would pay half up front and half of the remaining balance when we were at the halfway point, we were asked to pay the next installment. We paid and asked about insulation. We were told its not needed in a basement. We were also told the permit didnt need to be pulled. We insisted on both of these things. They subsequently filed for permits with the county and sent someone by to measure for insulation. We were well into January at this point. Everything was inspected with minor things to be corrected. The insulation was installed on 2/4/24. Once the inspector came by and confirmed we were okay to move forward we were told by the contractors drywall would be next. One of the owners said they needed to buy more materials and asked us to pay half of the final installment. They came by to pick up the check and said the drywall would be done soon. Weeks went by with no contact. We called and sent text messages numerous times with very little response. The drywall installer was later sent to get measurements then we never heard back. This was around April. We continued to call and text with little response. We finally got one of the owners on the phone and insisted on a meeting to discuss why things stalled and why they havent been communicating. When we met they said the previous drywall installer was not good and they decided to find someone else. They promised to do better with staying in touch and would get someone else for drywall. It was early June at this point. The next drywall guy came by for measurements. We were told they had a couple jobs to finish then we were next. Again, communication has broken down with no call backs or answered texts. The last conversation was three weeks ago. They said it will be soon but it has been eight months with no end in sight.

First of all we would like to apologize for the way this job has come down but some things were out of our control. We have been experiencing help problems just like everyone else in this line of work but we are working through these problems to complete our jobs just like we wanted to do with yours. Finally we found a crew that we felt comfortable with to finish your job to our standards. We hired them on July 15th they were going to start on July 11th which is the start of a new pay period for our company and your job was going to be there first job with us, then on July 8th I received a notice from the permit office that an inspection was ordered on a shower pan for your house on our permit we pulled so we knew you had hired someone and unfortunately we were too late. The crew we hired is still with us and they are an asset to this company they would have been great for your job *** and I started talking to each other saying we had to do something but unfortunately I had a fall on the 14th and broke three ribs. *** has had everything by himself, I am still out of work. We are so sorry this happened we strive to make all our customers happy and to keep our good rating with the BBB. We feel we do owe you something and we had an affiliate of our company reach out to you, please get back to him so we can resolve this matter. We apologize again and hope we can work together to resolve this. S

I am rejecting this response because:
An arbitrator contacted us about working together to settle our issues with Superior Construction. He said he had worked with them, in the past, to help solve similar problems. However, they did not get back with a plan before the required deadline. Still hoping to hear from them. If they do not respond we will proceed with other options.

    Thank you.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 11/04/2024

I am rejecting this response because:
Here are the checks we wrote to Superior. It totals $47,243.00. That in no way reflects all our expenses for this project. You already have additional costs from the new contractor. Plus we paid many others including all plumbing and electrical. We worked with an arbitrator from Superior to set up repayments. Never heard from them again. I didnt think that BBB did anything about money, but we would be very happy with $25,000. Then I could pay off loans.

We really just dont want anyone else to go through what we did with Superior. The arbitrator told us that they were deeply in debt because they had other customers like us. Thank you for looking into all this and if you know any way we could get our money back from them please let us know.

Below is a bullet-point list of items agreed upon in contract but NOT completed:

*finished some sheet rock but a portion of what they did had to be redone (whole shower area)

*did not start or complete vinyl siding at all or gutters

*did not start interior work including, tile, walls

*did not cut an entrance from addition to the house

*some plumbing was completed; however, it was incomplete or had to be redone

*the drain line they completed had to be completely dug up and redone

    *only partially completed windows

    *no drywall was completed

    *no shelving for closet

    *no painting was completed

    *vanity was not put in

*medicine cabinet was not put in

*door to addition was not completed (it was actually left wide open for about 9 months and we had an intruder in there at 3:00 am one morning)

Mr. and Mrs **************** We are so sorry that we have not been able to pay you per our agreement, we very much want to pay you and will pay you. *** had a heart attack and had to have a triple bypass operation. He is healing well and will be able to return to work soon, I also had an operation at the same time he was in the hospital and I an dealing with cancer issues. We have been able to start jobs due to our health but are getting better . We will be able to start the jobs shortly that our customers have been patiently waiting on us to get better and will then be able to do our payments we all agreed to if you could find it in your heart to give us some more time we would certainly appreciate it and would take care of this matter as soon as possible  Sincerely *** and ******

    Customer Answer

    Date: 01/08/2025

I am rejecting this response because:
We heard all this months ago, but only because we filed with BBB. Our addition say incomplete and wide open for over 9 months. We heard nothing from you although we had paid you in full by mistake. We filed because we cannot afford to lose $25,000.00! I called and texted for months until we hired another contractor to correct and fix your work. After we filed with BBB an arbitrator contacted us to make a deal where we accepted a payment agreement. We then changed our response to allow for this. However, we never heard back from you or the arbitrator and we definitely did not receive any repayment! We feel that you stole from us and others according to the arbitrator saying others were in the same position as us and that you could not pay them back either. He said that changing our BBB review would help you get more jobs to pay us back. I think that just means others will lose their money as well. Working with you has been the most stressful, horrible thing I have ever been through. We trusted you to do the work we paid you for. We would never recommend your company for anything!

On June 15th we paid a deposit to ************************* for new windows and for our house to be painted. The total cost was to be $10,200. ($4200. Windows and $6000. For the paint and he required I pay $5,100. Up front, which we did. It took them 3 1/2 months to come install the windows, in the meantime we had to go ahead and hire someone else to paint our house because it had new bare wood siding and we couldn't keep waiting for ******,, our siding was getting ruined by the weather. Two of our new windows have white scratch lines in between the panes and one window had a long deep scratch that was there when they installed the windows. They refuse to address this problem. What we want is our $900. Overpayment sent back to us and we want compensation for the windows that are scratched or otherwise damaged. We no longer want Superior construction to do any more work on our properties. I was very unhappy with his window installers demeanor and he's not allowed here again Superior construction also built a deck for us earlier this year and they drove all the nails in too far and now water is getting into the wood. They won't address this issue either. We just ignored no matter how nicely I approach this. We don't want all of our money back but they do need to compensate us for the problems with their work that we now have to pay someone to fix The $11,800. paid was for the deck and the windows,( overpaid .)

First of all, we would like to apologize for you not being satisfied with our. Services  We strive to make all our customers. In fact, I will never forget the inspectors words.  He said that he had not seen framing That good on a deck in that county in years. I enjoyed his words and will never forget them as far as the windows We have no control over when ordered windows Arrive since COVID nineteen, it seems that everything is delayed getting to us. And it makes it hard not only on us As a contractor but all contractors.
As soon as the windows Arrived we got out there as soon as possible To fit your schedule And ours We did not want to paint your house until we had. The windows in. So there would be no touch up. We like for everything to match. We take pride in all of our work.
As far as the The Window discrepancy That would be a manufacturer Defect and up to them to handle. We would be glad To Get them to handle that if you would allow us to come back on the property and do it as far as the $900.  We will be glad to pay that when We have resolved all issues with homeowner, We take pride in making our customers Happy and keeping them that way.

This company came to my home on June 14, 2023 and gave me an estimate for a 14 x 14 (3) Three season room addition to my home. On June 26, 2023 they requested I give them a deposit to hold my place to start by July 24, 2023 or sooner. I paid this deposit on 6/26/23. The project started August 28, 2023. I asked *** at onset for a building inspection and prior to start of work. *** told me No building inspection was needed. 9/6/23 ******************* requested the 2nd installment which was due only if project was a 50% completed. ******************* requested additional money to extend additional 4 feet. the project was not 50% completed. On 9/6/23 I gave ******************* additional payment. September 12 I was informed by inspector no permit had been applied for and all work needed to stop. Informed ***/*************************** same day. Permit requested and inspection failed 10/18/23 to date No one from Superior has returned to address the failed inspection and make corrections or complete the project.
