I know that many retired and disabled Americans are having terrible problems with medical debt. This practice at AMI seems predatory and unfair to me. At the time of the procedures that I had at AMI; AMI personnel presented me with a form saying that I had to sign it to have the procedure. The form was to ensure that my insurance company or I would pay. At the time, I asked if they had the pre-authorization from my insurance company and they assured me that they did. Well apparently, they did not because my insurance company has refused payment. My insurance company has assured me that I do not owe AMI any money. However, today AMI called to inform me that they had found the form I had signed and therefore I do owe them a lot of money. That doesn’t seem right – I would have no way to know if they indeed had the proper pre-authorization from the insurance company. And that, my friends, is predatory practice and billing.

Thank you for allowing us to respond to this inquiry. The patient was originally scheduled for a procedure in June 2022 that required authorization by the patient's insurance company. The authorization was pending approval, so the patient rescheduled for a date in July and then again rescheduled to September 9, 2022. On September 2, 2022, services were authorized by the insurance carrier and the procedure was performed on September 9, 2022. Although authorization was performed and approved by the insurance carrier, the claim was still denied for no authorization. The patient balance was written off and the patient did not receive a bill for any money owed. If there are any other questions or information needed, please let me know. Thank you.
