    Air Conditioning Repair Issue -

On Tuesday June 24, 2025 A-1 United Heating and Air Conditioning arrived> at my house for an air conditioning repair. The tech J D took the cover off the outside unit and said the cylinder not sure if that is the correct term and went to his truck and brought another one to install. Never made sure the ac unit was working properly and proceeded with the bill of $219.00. The next morning it was still over 80 degrees in the house so on my way to a funeral I called A-1 and I got the answering machine which I left message. Did not receive a call back on Thursday so I called them and was told I would have to pay another service call and I said I already paid one service call and it was not fixed. The person proceeded to tell me I would need to speak with the service manager which I said I would gladly do. So I was told someone would be out on Thursday between 3 pm and 6 pm which was a no show. I have a heart transplant patient residing at the house along with animals and being it was over 80 degrees was not a good situation. He had to go to the hospital as a result. On Friday I told my brother who used to work with a person who knows everyone and a call was placed to T**** **** ******* *** *** ************ who saved the day. The ac unit had no freon in the unit and he added 4 lbs and knock on wood the unit is now working properly. My question is did the A-1 Tech even bother to check the freon? I believe not.
Needless to say I believe I should be compensated for a job not properly repaired. Thanks in advance.

This customer is correct. We were there and did replace a contactor. He checked multiple other components, including the refrigerant change. His readings were recorded on the cooling checklist that the customer received after the job was completed. The unit was running when the technician left the customer's home. The next day when the customer was contacted they told us that they no longer needed the appointment and the service call was cancelled. Last week our Office Manager saw a significant complaint that was posted on the NextDoor app. She looked into the customer's complaints and discovered that the employee who set up the service call for the return visit wrote down the wrong phone number. That is how the return service call was never run. It was an honest mistake that sometimes everyone makes. It is very unfortunate that the mistake caused this customer so much hardship.

According to the refrigerant readings that the technician took, the charge was a little bit low. He should have mentioned it to the customer. He did not. Due to that oversight by the technician and the mistake that the customer service representative made, we are happy to provide this customer with a full refund. A simple phone call into the office would have resolved this with the same refund given. It is too bad that on top of everything else the customer dealt with they had to put so much energy into writing awful reviews in so many places. The refund check will be in the mail tomorrow.

I had an issue with my furnace with an intermittent gas leak and trouble with the igniter. I paid A1 United to install a new gas valve. The gas valve continued to leak even when the furnace wasn’t running all day. I reported the issue three times and they sent a tech out. They tried replacing the valve and making adjustments but it still leaked. I had to call another company. ****** ******* *******) and they confirmed the gas valve wasn’t installed tight enough on the manifold and they didn’t use any caulk to prevent the valve from leaking. I didn’t want to spend more on repairs and replaced the furnace. I called A1 United to see if we could work something out to return the warrantied part. They yelled at me stating they wouldn’t refund anything and they could care less about my opinion. The cost of the part was $*** and they charged $*** to install. I reported that the valve was leaking the same day it was installed. The company failed to install the part correctly and due to the severity I had to go with another company. I didn’t go with A1 United to replace the furnace due to the issues which is why I believe they are behaving this way. Is there anything I can to do get any of the $*** back?

We do apologize that our service did not meet your
expectations.  We strive to provide the best service possible for every
situation that we are involved with.  To clarify we actually installed 2
different gas valves in the various trips we made to your house.  We also
offered to install a different part associated with the gas valve in order to
determine if there was something else causing the issue.  Our company was
not planning on charging you until we knew that part resolved the problem. We also
provided a free estimate for a new system that included a reduction in cost to
assist with the compensation of the gas valves we replaced.

As we stated in a phone call with you on March 6, 2023, if
you can provide an invoice to us from the other company stating that the gas
valve was installed incorrectly, we will gladly discuss reimbursement
options.  The invoice can be emailed to ********************* and we will
    respond in a timely manner.

I have received the information from the other contractor regarding the gas valve not being installed correctly causing the gas leak but I haven’t been able to obtain it on their letterhead to attach to the complaint at this time.

”the gas valve wasn't tight and there was no pipe dope on the threads or not enough and that it was leaking gas around it.”

We appreciate the information that you provided. However, if we are to discuss any reimbursement options we will need a note on the other company's letterhead or an invoice stating that the gas valve was installed incorrectly.
