I am writing to you in a state of profound distress and disbelief concerning an incident that transpired during my recent visit to your store with my two children and our dog.As we entered ShopRite, a manager approached us with an unjustifiable demand that our dog could not be in the cart. Despite our immediate compliance and efforts to diffuse the situation, the manager persisted in addressing us with a loud, intimidating voice. To our dismay, two additional store employees joined this distressing encounter, surrounding us and falsely accusing us of a previous incident that we had no involvement in, vehemently disregarding our explanations. The situation reached a harrowing point when the manager questioned the legitimacy of our need for a service dog, insinuating that unless we had a disability or mental health issue, we were unwelcome and had to leave the store. This nightmarish experience left me feeling utterly humiliated, especially as a black woman, to be subjected to such a hostile confrontation by three men. The impact on my children was devastating they were frightened and deeply upset by the incident, witnessing their mother being treated in a manner that no one should endure. What exacerbates the pain of this ordeal is the blatant contradiction in the store's policies. While we were subjected to humiliation, I couldn't help but notice that ShopRite has dedicated aisles for dogs/pets. It is disheartening that, despite these designated areas, we faced discrimination against our dog.The emotional toll of this incident is immeasurable, and I implore you to recognize the gravity of the situation. I beseech you to thoroughly investigate this matter, take immediate and decisive action to rectify the conduct of your staff, and implement stringent measures to prevent the recurrence of such deeply distressing incidents.
