This occured about 2 weeks ago. We went into to file our taxes looking for the sole purpose of being able to use the early advance program. We were looking to be able to get a certain amount of money for the advance which was $2000. So we came in a was greeted by a gentleman named ****. Mind you, had one of best customer ********************** interactions with him throughout my entire experience. I give him a perfect 10. So during the file we had a few questions, keon is brand new so he had to reach out to "upper management" who was ****************************, who in my opinion should be fired immediately. If you don't like your job, find a new one, that's how I see it. Anyway, iv never seen first hand an employee (keon) get treated almost like he was a little kid. I was appalled by the way he was treated by *************. Moving forward we get down to the filing fees. It was upwards of $900. I was SHOCKED by how much it was. So now we are in question if we should pay that much to advance what we needed. So we asked **** to asked ************* how much we were gonna be able to get in advance. She said $6500. Our remaining taxes after fees was $6100 and some change. So in my mind, my next question was... So we can get ALL of our taxes up front if we want? And the answer was YES. little did we know, that this is advance on your taxes is based on CREDIT. also had NO IDEA our credit was being pulled fo any reason. So of coarse after hearing YES, I decided to move forward with filing, because you have to file and pay the fees BEFORE getting to the advance part. So I asked, what happens with the advance. They said the bank calls you and you discuss how much you want to get! That is 100% not the case. We got a text message after leaving an hour later that our advance is $500!!!! I am just completely appalled by not only the false leading to generate these unreal fees. Turbo tax charges $90. Something needs to be done about ***********************, and I was also hung up on my malorie but I need more room for that!Business Response

On January 14th I solely went to Jackson Hewitt to get my taxes done due to them offering two different promotions offering same day money. When I arrived I told the tax "professional" that my goal today was to have money before leaving this cubicle from either the paystub loan or the advance loan. He told me ok. Proceeding with going over paperwork I brought in, I told him I did not have my mortgage interest amount that I paid in. He told me he doubted I paid over $14,000 so it wasn't a big deal. I also told him that I have 2 children that live full time with me but my ex husband claims one child and I claim the other. Around a hour into my appointment I asked the tax guy how long it takes to get the *********** told me within minutes. I was under the impression I would know before I left if I was accepted. I also asked about the $1,000 paystub loan. The tax professional told me oh he forgot and we would have to start all over and I would have to reschedule my appointment. I was so ****** at this point. He told me he couldn't finish my taxes because of a pending question. When he asked me to sign papers I really didn't realize it was finalizing my return. I paid over $500 to get my simple taxes done, no money when I left, no advance, no paystub loan. I could have done my taxes on my own for $450 less!! Jackson Hewitt is a **** scam.Business Response

We have spoken to *************** a couple times. When we made a concession offer, she become non-responsive via email and phone. We have determined that the return was not filed incorrectly based on the information provided to the preparer at the time of her appointment. Unfortunately, Jackson Hewitt cannot guarantee an advance approval as that is handled by the bank partner who supports the product. I am rejecting this response because:
They offered me $50. I paid over $500 for my taxes to get done. Not only was my complaint about the advance. When I told my tax preparer that I did not have my mortgage interest amount I paid last year, he simply stated I doubt it was over $14,000 so it doesn't matter. Now how would he know what I paid? I also asked to do a paystub loan in which he replied, we would have to start over and i would have to schedule another appointment.

I ran into an emergency where I needed money now. I went to Jackson Hewitt because of their advertised Money Today Guarantee.I told them that I needed the money today, and that I was not going to file my taxes there unless I was getting the money today. I made it very clear, several times. We went through the process, I got their debit card because it was explained to me that the money would go there instantly. Set up the account. And waited until I got a text about the money. The text said that I wasnt approved.Now, not only do I not have any money, or another way to get any to save my situation, but now I owe them money for a service they didnt provide. Which caused direct harm to me because now I have to sleep in my car until I get paid.Im unaware of the amount they charged me (to be taken out of my tax refund). I had filed mine an my significant others taxes with another company for 2022 but after numerous letters from the **** ***************** and several other errors I decided that I wanted the taxes checked by someone else to see if there were more errors. In August there are not many tax professionals available. I called the local office of Jackson Hewitt in ************, ** and was transferred to the Searcy, ** office. There *************************** answered my call. She said she would look at my paperwork and get back with me in about 2 weeks. We met at another office about halfway between us (******, ** office) and I gave her copies of all of the taxes that had been prepared. After 2 weeks I called the ** office in ******, ** repeatedly and no answer. After numerous calls I called the 800 number for ** and filed an inquiry. My taxes had not been looked at and I finally said to send them back to me. The number of documents that they had copies of would required a trip to the post office to mail rather than sticking everything into an envelope and putting a stamp on it. Therefore there should have been a tracking number. I have made repeated phone calls both to the ** tax office and the 800 number to no avail to get my paperwork back. They keep telling me that the paperwork has been mailed to me. This narrative has been repeated 5 times that the paperwork has been mailed back to me. To date I still do not have the paperwork. I made two appointments to go and pick up the documents myself but was again told that the paperwork has been mailed back to me. I have requested a tracking number and they cannot provide one. This greatly concerns me because this is private information that is either floating around in the **** mail which leaves me open to fraud, or the paperwork has been lost or misplaced by **, Either way I want my copies back so I can have some assurance that my information is not out there for someone else to get and use illegally. ** inquiry #******Business Response

I have suffered the fees for 6 straight years that Jackson Hewitt charges for their federal and state income tax preparation services because they offer a fast track solution of putting the funds in my the next business day. I have always qualified for both the Early Advance and the No Fee Advance and every year I get the maximum amount offered. This year, however, I was denied within seconds of submitting my application for both products. This can not be correct. I have a higher credit score this year than I did in the past, my return is for $14,157.00, I called to verify I didn't have any off set debt through the hotline and my wife and I were both clear...no offsets. Our status from one year ago is excellent and yet we were declined immediately. I called the call center at the bank and spoke to ***** who advised me the night I applied there was a system crash and several applications were rapidly turned down to clear the cue. See my attached email from that transcript. I was told that I could return to Jackson Hewitt and just have them reapply and it should process approved like it always has. Well, that was a complete waist of time because they said it wasn't their policy to do that. I feel taken advantage of and lied to. There is truly no way if my application was entered in correctly, that I would be denied. I feel Jackson Hewitt prays on poverty stricken taxpayers desperate to believe they will get a chunk of money in an early refund advance as long as they agree to spend a huge amount on tax preparation services but then pulls their end of the bargain on the majority of its customers once they have your taxes filed. I want ************* and Trust to review my application and give me the exact reason I was denied on both products right here as a public statement. If it is for criteria that disqualifies my applications that they can prove, then I will delete this complaint.I also encourage communication as soon as possible that leads to lending us the money.Business Response

Office has spoken with the client and advised that the Refund Advance application is determined by *************. Due to federal banking laws, Jackson Hewitt does not know why the client was denied the advance. ******** also cannot publicly provide that information. The client will receive a Notice of Adverse Action Letter within 30 days from ************* which will explain more in detail why they made the decision that they made. I visited a Jackson hewitt in ******** ** on the 12th to apply for the Early Refund Advance. The employee made a mistake when entering my paystub and ended up submitting that my family's AGI was $60,000 when it was actually $47,000. So I only received $100 for the *** and not $1000 like I should have. I spoke to a separate employee who found the mistake and was able to tell the employee who did my Tax Advance calculations that it was wrong. She was able to go in and change it but I've been told a new application cannot be resubmitted or corrected. Because of this mistake, I am going to lose my vehicle. I have a 5 year old and a 1 year old and I have a job so losing my vehicle is going to be the biggest impact to my life right now. I will lose my job and my 1 year old is ILL often and has doctors appointments often or e.r. visits. I dont want to get anyone fired or tell a sob story, I just want the money I was *********** if this mistake wasn't made.Business Response

They told me numerous times that my taxes were not finished, but not to worry because I owed no tax. They finally finished my taxes in mid-September, and said that I owed $59,000.00 +. Then both ** and the *** sent me letters saying that I owe penalties and interest.Business Response
