      My wife is grieving as she has to travel late to move her mother into memory care. So, she arrives late in Des Moines, exhausted, and the employee at the counter, whose English is very poor, tells my wife that she has to give him a credit card to finish the rental. He then tells her the he has upgraded her. She goes out and instead of a sedan that she wanted, gets a pickup that she hates driving. Then this morning I see that this "fine" company charged us an additional $614 for a five day rental.

      I mad a reservation for $68 and went. when returning the car, other option fees such as facility fee, gas service fee, recovery fee and etc were additionally paid. I have filled up the gas and they charged gas fee 58$ . so total become 103$. Even, they didn't explain it. i want to refund gas fee and i will.

      Payless case number: ********
      I rented a car from Payless. At the airport, they asked for a $250 deposit. I did not receive it. I emailed them, they said to wait 30 days from when I returned the rental. I did this and called. The lady said that she will refund my card, it could take up to 10 business days. I waited, nothing. I called again, he said he was sending a refund. Still, nothing. I returned the car mid June, when I was scheduled to do so. I have still not received anything, email or refund.

      When I rented the car with Payless I agreed to a rate of 319$
      I was charged 158$ more than this.
      Here was there explanation (most of the items in the itemized receipt were indecipherable).
      39.07$ "Concession Recovery Fee". When I called they simply said "We charge this to everyone"--cool, so people who are definitely leaving town due to this being an airport get extorted. No other explanation given.
      40$ Fuel. This is what they charged for 4 gallons of gas. Highest price noted in the area was 3.80$

      Didn't know what this meant. Apparently it means that when you talk to the person when youre checking out, and let them know when you're getting back, they pretend you never had the conversation and charge you a late fee.
      There are other fees too including a 'site development fee"? The guy on the phone said it was to pay the rent on for the space or something ridiculous---that's what the inital agreed upon rate is for.
      I don't buy groceries and then pay a fee for the grocer to develop their land after I have already made choices based on the advertised rate. This is corporate fraud, but I'm sure they've got some legal team greasing the terminology.

      I attempted to rent a car on my recent trip to Orlando Florida. I was told that the car I reserved through Payless was confirmed by the representative I spoke with at the location. I booked the vehicle through Orbitz and the money was withdrawn from my account. When I got to the location I was informed that my credit score was too low to qualify for the deposit on my debit card.
      I have spoken to Orbitz twice on this matter and have been denied a credit card refund.

      Good: The person at the counter was nice and very chatty. When I complained about being overcharged, they took off the extra fees.
      Bad: The car was a piece of ****. An extremely basic Nissan Versa with body damage and 80K miles that had basically no amenities. I don't know how old it was, but when I plugged my iPhone into the USB port (no Bluetooth) it identified it as an "iPod." The thing also made kind of a screeching noise when I accelerated, as if the emergency brake was still on (it wasn't).
      The chatty clerk also charged me for insurance when I asked it to be waived. I had to sign/initial my name 9 times on a tiny hard to read screen, while the clerk chatted me up about where to go for the best happy hour deals. I got the impression that she was doing this deliberately to distract me. My initial bill was $170 more than what I was told it would be when I reserved the vehicle. When my flight was cancelled and I needed the car an extra day, they quoted me a price of $160.
      I made a special trip back to the rental center to return the car and get another one from a different rental agency (Alamo). That experience was 1000% better -- I got a brand new Nissan Camry with all the modern amenities for less than the initial price of the Versa. But that consumed an additional 90 minutes out of my day.

      My wife and I have been renting vehicles all around the world for over 30 years. In this time we have always tried to return the vehicles in an as clean state as possible. We are sure that many are returned in a shocking state, but this time, in Kona, in May we we're charged $125 cleaning fee for 'Excessive Sand' in the vehicle. We don't argue that there was some sand on the floor mats, but in NO way was this excessive in our opinion? (see attached pictures if available)
      Do we now have to clean our rental cars inside and out before we return them? Is that not their task? We rang and emailed the company and protested our case politely, but they did not relent. Needless to say we will not be renting from either Avis (the parent company) I believe Budget too or Payless again. Your Choice

      We have reviewed the pictures provided by the rental counter and they do support the cleaning fee. However, as a gesture of Customer Service we have discounted the cleaning fee by 50%. Please note that going forward you are responsible for returning the vehicle back in the same condition as rented or better, failure to do so can result in a cleaning fee of up to $450.00.

      The daily rental rate for my car is $60 but Payless Car rental is charging me $168 to extend my rental for a day + 4 hours.
      I missed my flight because I spent the day in the ER and can’t believe I have to spend an extra $100 over daily rental rate to extend it.

      I rented a vehicle in Managua and had the worst experience ever. When I returned the vehicle I was told it needed to be washed. When I told them it didn’t say that in the contract he started to verbally insult me. It was completely ridiculous and unprofessional. He wanted cash. He was trying to extort money from me because I didn’t have it washed. I took a picture of his badge. However I don’t know where to file the proper complaint
