My mom is 92 years old and has dementia and hearing problems. She started to receive charges on her checking account for ***** from Capital Magazine Club. My mother does not recall authorizing these charges and wants them to be credited and stopped. Please note that the address and phone numbers listed on the BBB site is the same as the one for "Privacy Patrol" who is also making unauthorized charges on my mother's account. I submitted a separate complaint for this.Business Response

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. Our company, Privacy Patrol, provides Identity Theft Protection. Privacy Patrol offers a 100% cancellation policy with no obligation. Our records show this customer as having a recent membership with us with the information that was provided. In December ***** ******************************* responded to a direct mail advertisement that she received from Privacy Patrol to subscribe to the identity theft protection services offer by Privacy Patrol. Specifically, **************** initiated telephone contact with Privacy patrol by calling in a monitoring program that protects consumers from identity theft by alerting them to potential identity theft threats.
During the enrollment process, Privacy Patrol explained to **************** that she would receive a 30-day trial membership, after which she could either cancel the service or continue with the program at a cost of $29.85 per month. It was further explained to **************** that the monthly payments could be automatically deducted from her checking or credit card, and that **************** needed to provide her billing information to enroll in the automatic payment program, which she did provide her checking account information. In addition, **************** also provided Privacy Patrol with her address and telephone number to contact her about her membership and the additional shopping club reward membership that she opted into also.
Privacy Patrol understands that **************** was confused about the nature of the telephone call she made to Privacy Patrol and was concerned that we were fraudulent in nature. Due to this situation, Privacy Patrol has issued a refund for one full year of service for her protection plan and the shopping membership and cancelled all of **************** services with Privacy Patrol and Capital Magazine Service.
A refund check has been issued to her in the amount of $39.90 and has been sent to her via **** for her Capital Magazine Service ************* membership.
Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. We hope this response is satisfactory to *****************

I don't recall ever subscribing to this recurring magazine subscription. They have continued to bill my Chase checking account via e-check and I'm not sure how to stop them. The phone number on their website goes doesn't connect to the live person. I've emailed them and am wary if a positive reply based on the comments I've read thus far on BBB here. Please help.Business Response

For the last several months a check that I did not write is automatically taken from my bank account for a "Magazine Club" for which I did not sign up for, nor do I receive any magazines. I have tried for those same months to email or call the numbers listed online, numbers on my check image, and from other websites to cancel a magazine "club" subscription service, that again I never signed up for. The email is returned as undeliverable, the phone number either rings and rings when I call during the middle of day on business days or I am able to leave a voicemail that is never returned. I would like to cancel whatever service associated with Capital Magazine and a receive a full refund.Initial Complaint
