      It is impossible to get to a manager/owner who manages/owns the chain of Defined Fitnesses. After Covid the steam room (********** , **) was never reopened, as a result a small dry sauna is always overcrowded and not hot enough to break sweat. I know that a lot of people (steam room lovers) were not happy with that , but for them, as well, there was no a way to reach a higher level of management. Cost of membership was raised from $38 to $54. Monthly pass is too expensive: my friend from another state wanted to buy a pass for one month only, but it would cost her more than $100.(??) so she did not buy. I have just received a no-reply email from an invisible management threatening to get back to me for not paying my membership for 4 months. I will write another review to let people know if I was successful to terminate my membership without paying $300 for these 4 months. I tried to call the number provided in the email, but it was an automated system with no customer representative option to talk unless I update my payment option. I did not want to give them my new debit card number , because I didnot have any intentions to continue the membership.

      They dont clean the bathrooms. Your shoes stick to the floor under the urinals. They have orange mold on the shower curtains and the dont clean the lockers for months. Management has been told and they have done nothing. The gym is a pig pen and they dont care

      The raised the cost of the membership and the hilltop location has had no hot tub for over a month. It's frustrating paying for amenities that I cannot access. No one can provide timelines and I regret getting a membership here.

      I am a resident of **********. I joined Defined Fitness in 2021 while in NM caring for my elderly parent. I have never used the membership and made the mistake of allowing automatic billing to my credit card. I have no account number to refer to. Only my name, phone and address of my relative. I have called several times in the last two years attempting to cancel over the phone. I have been told various things: I must call at a different time of the month, or I need to cancel in person, or I need to cancel in writing. The calls always end with the employee hanging up on me. I have made multiple attempts to close this account in July 2024 with payment due of $43.04. I began receiving calls from *** Fitness in ** advising of a problem with my payment. The message leaves a name *****. When I called I reached an automated system demanding I pay over $118. I was finally able to get to a live representative in **. I requested the automated billing to stop. She refused. I asked her to update my address and send me a bill with my account number and a breakdown of charges. She refused, saying I must submit my cancellation to Defined Fitness but could not give me an address or name of a person to write to. I called Defined Fitness Sandia. I spoke with Lead employee ******. I advised of my wish to cancel and was told no problem I must pay the $118. I advised I have not used the club no longer authorize charges to my account. I requested to update my account with my mailing address in **. I advised once I receive a bill with my account number and explanation of charges I will contact the club. ****** refused. Said I must send a written cancelation request. When I asked for the address and manager name I was told I must cancel in person at the club. I said I live in **. I was told to call back when I can be more cooperative and he hung up. Since I have been denied information or assistance about an account I have never used I am submitting this complaint.

      From my personal experience working over a year and being a member this company. In my personal opinion this company uses very shady practices. Where they basically avoid any repercussions from their mistakes using the fine print on the contract they make you sign. The example of what happened to me is clear proof that they know what they do is wrong and would rather cancel the account of the member than to compromise and make things right. This is coming from a place of concern for the integrity of the business as a whole, and the way it penalizes its members. Yesterday February 8, **** I went in to work out but when they scanned my barcode the employee told me that I had not been charged for the month of February. When I pulled out my phone to show them that on the bank statement it shows I was charged February 1, **** and the money was never returned to my account. The general manager at the Defined fitness Capital did a terrible of fixing the situation. Saying that *** the billing company is forcing me the pay 66$ extra after the already charged 43.26$. Just to enter the gym and use a service I already paid for. Upset I stated that this has been an issue since I last worked at the company. Then instead of trying to be understanding and fix the situation the General manager stated that I must have resentment from my time working there which was incredibly unprofessional. This statement is incorrect since I quit using a two week notice and in great terms with the past General Manager that also was quitting for having issues with the way the business handled accounting. This is a great example of a company with unlimited funds strong-arming its members to pay extra money with late fees and overcharging individuals then fixing the side effects of an unjust billing system that benefits *** with extra income. Leaving the burden to be placed on the members. Today I was called by the ** and told that my account is cancelled even after stating I did not desire this.

      I am really disappointed in this gym. My son signed up and didn't use it, so called to cancel. He was not told on the phone that he had to come in in person to cancel, and so we were charged more than $600 for almost a year when he was not even living in ********. They will not refund any of our money. I asked to speak to the owner and was told there is no owner; it is a big corporation that doesn't give a c*** about customer service, just the bottom line. Really disappointing and greedy company.

      I was a defined fitness member for almost 2 years before relocating to another area and I had called 11/22 to cancel my membership (way after contract was up) as I no longer needed it the staff member I spoke to said I would need to come in the store to cancel the membership which clearly was not an option. The only other option they gave me was to continue to pay or send a notarized letter of cancellation. I continued to pay this bill as I had no choice but to pay it and about 6 months later they stopped charging my account. I figured they closed my account due to inactivity but in fact they stopped charging my card and kept racking a bill up as of 12/23 I got an email from a collection agency saying I owed over $300 and it needed to get paid or of course it was going to go on my credit. I contacted the gym I was using and they said that my file shows they informed me of the bill going to collections (which they never did) they also told me that they sent an email with a notice of payment due (which they never did). Do not use defined fitness I had other memberships at similar gyms in the area and they had no problem with me calling in and giving all my information to cancel my membership. They are scamming people out of money TAKE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ELSEWHERE

      I go to the *************** to swim. The shower area in the ladies is disgusting! Evidently, the contractor didn't slope the floors properly, so there are puddles of water everywhere. It's gotten into the locker area, and the locker bank next to the showers is rotting from the bottom **. In addition, there is at least one shower that has no ****, so it is useless. There are frequently roaches in the shower area and it appears that there is black mold in some of the showers. It smells very musty in there. There is nowhere to hang your bag, so it has to sit in a puddle on the floor. There are only a couple of benches in the whole locker room, so it's difficult to get changed if you need to sit to do so. I would think they would be worried about the ***************** coming in, especially with the mold issues. The swim classes are great, but these health issues need to be addressed asap.

      The air conditioning at Defined fitness on Juan Tabo has been broken for over a year now. Why has it not been fixed? I just paid for a year's membership to workout in a room that has no air conditioning. It's 100 degrees out. This is not what I want out of my membership. Time to find a new gym I guess.
