    On 5/23/25, I witnessed a hit-and-run motorcycle accident caused by a driver in a red vehicle who fled the scene, nearly killing the motorcyclist. I pursued the perpetrator to the Painted Desert gated community, where they used a clicker to enter, clearly a resident. At the guard shack, I urgently alerted the attendant, shouting that the driver had just caused a hit-and-run. Shockingly, she ignored me, continuing to assist another driver with sign-in paperwork. After waiting for her to finish, I reiterated the severity of the situation, emphasizing that the fleeing driver had endangered a life. Her response? A dismissive shrug and a vague “I don’t know.” No action, no concern, no attempt to document or detain the suspect.
    Appalled by this negligence, I called the Painted Desert Homeowners Association and spoke with the assistant manager, explaining the incident in detail. She put me on hold to consult the general manager, only to return with a curt dismissal: there was “nothing for them to handle” and to contact the police for further concerns. This response is beyond unacceptable—it’s complicity. By refusing to engage, the guard and management effectively shielded a hit-and-run suspect, potentially emboldening reckless behavior among residents who know they can evade accountability. I provided photos of the vehicle to the victim for their police report, but Painted Desert’s inaction raises alarming questions. Is their security untrained, or is this a deliberate policy to ignore criminal activity? Does management prioritize protecting residents over public safety? This incident exposes a dangerous culture of apathy and unaccountability, undermining any claim to community integrity. I strongly warn potential residents or visitors to steer clear of a community that appears to condone crime and dismisses responsibility.
