      I am submitting this complaint regarding a towing company operating in ****, ******. (Milne Towing)On April 18th, my vehicle broke down at ************************************. I was provided a coupon authorized by someone in the companys management that clearly stated I was entitled to a free tow for up to 10 miles.The vehicle was towed to ******************************, which is approximately 4.9 miles one waywell within the 10-mile limit stated on the coupon.When the tow truck driver initially arrived, he claimed the coupon was invalid. However, after contacting someone (presumably a supervisor or manager), he confirmed that the coupon was valid and proceeded with the towassuring me it would be completely free of **********, one week later, I am receiving calls from the towing company demanding payment. At no point during the service was I informed of any additional charges. The coupon does not mention fees for loaded tows, storage, or any other costs. It simply states: free tow up to 10 miles.I believe these charges are unjustified and misleading. I respectfully request an investigation into this matter and that the company be required to cease all attempts to collect payment for a service that was agreed upon as free under clearly defined terms.I am happy to provide a copy of the coupon and any supporting documentation if needed.Thank you for your assistance.

      After investigating the situation and speaking with the staff that had reached out to Mr. ******* the information in the call did not clearly state that the certificate provided specifically indicated a free light duty tow which included the hook as well as the mileage. The certificate has been applied to the full amount and there is no balance due. We apologize to Mr. ****** for the confusion and any inconvenience this may have caused.

      This company takes advantage of you when you are in an accident. The tow rate is 4 times the amount of a normal tow bill. This seems to be fraud in some way since most tow bills are paid by insurance companies. Also, at the time of the accident we had our own tow company pull up at the same time as their truck and we were forced by the City of Reno law enforcement to use them instead of our own company. So even though we had an option, they would not let us use it. Someone should be looking into the difference in rates for these situations, that are taking advantage of a bad situation.

      I would like to respond to the complaint but I do not know what vehicle this is pertaining to, but I can respond with the general response for accident calls from Law Enforcement calls. When our company is called out to an accident call or impound by law enforcement of any agency, the purpose of the call is to clear the scene for law enforcement as quickly as possible for them. We do the work as quickly and efficiently as possible so that if the road is blocked or has any impediment at all it can stop traffic and cause traffic jams and issues in the regular commute. We do not question when law enforcement asks us to tow something, we just do what they ask us to do to help the community as quickly as we can. The fees that are charged for the towing of a law enforcement request is also higher as the tow is done in an expedited manner and sometimes in dangerous situations, they are not the same fees as a regular tow for a broken down vehicle. We will deny your complaint for Milne Towing as we were doing our job as asked by law enforcement. For further details then we would require the vehicle information and date of the tow. Thank you

      These scumbags towed my car 3 times. ***** in one day. One fault was mine and I take responsibility for that but they had no reason to tow my car the 2nd time or third. They pray on people living at the apartments and even though I paid for my wrong doing they took advantage my kindness by towing me again even though I told them I had permission to be there. They said oh well it's already on the truck and we can't do anything about it. Even if I offered to pay for an unhooking fee.

      This towing company prays on apartment complexes to tow people and then charge them large amounts of money to get their car from their lot. They will charge daily storage fees and at some point start the paperwork process for them to legally own your vehicle. They had seen our vehicle numerous times in a handicap spot and one night we forgot to put it up and we were towed and charged $350 right before the holidays.

        As you did not give the information of what vehicle this pertains to, or the property it was impounded from I am unable to know the circumstances of the impound specifically but I can address the complaint you are alleging. You yourself said you parked in a handicap space with out putting up the placard. To park in any handicap space it is the law that the placard must be displayed at all times, if someone were parked in a handicap space that you or anyone else with a placard needed you would expect the same level of service. Our job is to enforce the rules and regulations of the property. The fees that are charged for any impound are regulated by the state and they are required to automatically be  charged for the type of impound that was performed. It is not our responsibility to make sure you handicap placard is displayed when you park in a handicap space as required by law. 

      Milne Towing will decline your complaint and refund request as the tow was absolutely legal and legitimate.

      It is in bad faith to operate a business like this. As I said your drivers had seen our vehicle parked there numerous times with the placard up. And if I saw someone else in the spot without a placard I would think they probably forgot to put it up and its no big deal. Your response is passive aggressive and extremely unprofessional. To operate like this during the holiday season is heartless and in no way benefits the community.

      Me and my uncle were picking up food from Raising Cane's and there was no parking so I spoke with the employee of the business where there was parking and they said that it was alright for me to park there while I went and got my food and I came back to my car being towed. Upon request of the tow truck driver information, I was denied the information. They continued to be rude and denying my numerous requests for the driver information and reason for tow.

You guys are well aware of the car in question because when we requested the drivers name and reason for tow, you sat there and cussed at us and refused to give us the information and threatened to call the police. You have predatory business practices and I do not understand how you are still able to run.

      Thank you for the information, I was able to find the call for this tow, The vehicle was towed at the request of the property. As the property is a commercial property they can have your vehicle towed at anytime without notice or warning. The Manager of the establishment did not give permission for anyone to park in their lot. You were not authorized to park in the lot and they signed a tow slip and asked the vehicle be removed and we were doing our job as requested. Any other information is only available to the registered owner of the vehicle and as you are not the owner, you are also not authorized to file any complaints.  Have a nice day

      My employees do not give permission to park anywhere, in your original complaint you said it was an employee of the store.  Either way we are not going to be refunding any fees to you and neither will the property the vehicle was towed from as you were not authorized to park there per the management of the property.

      March 1, 2024 my son was using my truck to assist his girlfriend in moving to the Landsdowne Apartments at **** ** ****** *****, Sparks, Nevada. There were no parking spaces available anywhere near her apartment, which is upstairs in the back, so he temporarily parked in front of her apartment building to unload some heavy items. He had the truck hazard lights on (we have a picture of this) and he unloaded several items and then moved the final heavy furniture item.
      He was not away from the truck and in the apartment any longer than approximately five minutes and went out to move the truck, only to discover that it had been towed, even though the hazard lights were flashing. In researching, we discovered similar stories of this predatory towing practice. Amazingly enough, there was a car that had been parked in a handicap spot for two days with no handicap plates nor a handicap placard and had not been towed.
      We paid to pick up the truck and since the hazards had been flashing all night the battery was dead. We were charged $250.00 for the towing and feel that this was unfair under the circumstances and are respectfully requesting a refund.

      Thank you for the information, I did find the impound and I do show a 2000 Toyota Tacoma that was towed that date and location- I do show it was actually towed the night of Feb 29,2024 at approximately 10pm , While I understand that sometimes parking spaces are taken and parking is not always easy to find. It is illegal to park a vehicle for any length of time in a red zone/firelane. The property can be subject to fines and penalties if the fire lanes and red zones are not kept clear for emergency vehicles at all times. The laws that must be followed are very clear and the vehicle was parked in a red zone where it is not allowed to park. I'm sorry you do not agree with this but it is the law and is not allowed. That is why the vehicle was towed. Milne Towing Services is unable to comply with your request for a refund as the tow is completely legal.

      I am rejecting this response because I want to ensure that this gets posted:
      Your towing practices are totally predatory as I previously stated.  You are justifying towing a vehicle because it was illegally TEMPORARILY parked in a red zone for well under 5 minutes with the hazard lights on.   No, there were absolutely NO other parking places in the area and considering heavy items were being moved to an apartment in the back and upstairs, there were no other options.  Your drivers do NOT wait even a couple of minutes to see if the driver of the vehicle comes out, they simply drive up to the vehicle and tow it.   I am sure that the decision to tow in a specific case like this could be discretionary, were it not for your towing practices.
      Researching comments on various websites for Milne Tow, the comments are all very similar relating to your predatory towing practices, you should be ashamed of this rather than proud to stand behind the 'law'.   And, a towing fee of $250.00 to tow a vehicle less than 3 miles, is basically extortion. 

      The Reno/Sparks area is still a small town, and being a native my whole life believe me that I will ensure that this story gets repeated verbally as well as electronically.

      Charing different prices to get my vehicle back 3 times!!! They weasel their way into contracts with apartment companies in low-income neighborhoods; tow even registered, insured, appropriately parked vehicles; and charge sky-high prices to get the cars back.       Milne Towing Services works to maintain the parking rules and regulations for many properties, both residential and commercial , we do not tow from the properties without permission and pricing for every impound we do is set and approved by the State of Nevada. We do everything legally and we are heavily regulated on a daily basis. I have tried to find your name to be able to look up the impound you are speaking about and I can not find anything in my system. Would you be able to provide the vehicle information and the last 4 of the vehicle identification number to be able to better assist you with your complaint?

      On the night of march 26, 2024 I was visiting my boyfriend for the evening on Wednesday morning the 27th. I saw that my car was gone. It had been stolen by the tow company when we called, the lady told us that she really couldnt give any information. She does believe that the parking ticket was expired. That was not true. I didnt have a parking ticket when the car was being retrieved from the tow company and had to pay them, **** said that the car had been there for over 48 hours. That also is a lie on Monday night 25th of March. I had stopped the security guard on the property to take me to get in contact with my boyfriend because he wasnt answering his phone that same security guard watched me and was behind me when I left that property on Monday night. I returned again Tuesday night meeting up with my boyfriend. These people have very bad reviews. This is not my first time dealing with them due to an accident that I had last year . My car was illegally towed and I was charged for that illegal tow. These people should not be in business. They are crooks. They are thieves and they are liars. I want my money and I want it now.

      After finding the vehicle information and the impound of the vehicle, I show that you are not the owner of the vehicle and as such I can not give out any information for this complaint as you are not the person legally allowed to file a complaint for the vehicle or the impound of said vehicle. The only information that I can give is that the vehicle was towed at the direction of the security for the property as the vehicle did not have the proper parking permit to be allowed to park on the property.

      I am rejecting this response because: I was the driver of the vehicle when it was illegally towed/ stolen. My  uncle lives with me and if I have to put his name on this complaint I will.  Now here is another lie, because when my uncle and boyfriend came to retrieve the vehicle you guys said it was parked there over 48 hours. Now I wasnt supposed to be parked without a pass. I was a guest there is no such record of the property security telling your company to take my car. My boyfriend went to the office as well they were just as surprised as we were!
