I recently visited the location in the woodfeild mall in Schaumburg IL (60107) and something very troubling happened. During my check out the cashier asked for my email address, not asking if I had a membership but just for me email. I gave him my email address and then he asked for my ID I was confused and asked why he would need my ID for my purchase and he explained that he was signing me up for a free membership and o would receive 10% off today. I then went along with the purchase and he then told me I would be receiving a free magazine with the purchase. Then something on the card reader popped up and he told me to read it, I began reading and it then went black and I was unable to read further it then came back up with just a signature page he told me to sign and we would be all set. I then signed and the purchase was complete. I then am walking thru the mall and look at my receipts and realize that I was signed up for a magazine membership that I did not want and on top of that the FYE rewards membership was NOT free like he had told me. I then went back into the store asking for the manager and I explained him what had happened, I was not rude because it was not the manager that signed me up I just wanted the memberships canceled. The manager was EXTREMELY rude told me that it was my fault that I was signed up for everything and that I agreed to it all. I left without causing a scene and called the numbers on the receipts and I was told both times that I had to wait 72 hours to cancel them. This is extremely frustrating that I now have to take time out of my work week to call for something I never even signed up for in the first place. I will not be going to any FYE locations in the future because of this treatment.

I'm leaving this review to let you know don't ever shop there and I will never shop there again. I visited in March of 2023 just to buy my son a gift for his birthday. I was never told that I was going to be charged $11.99 a month totaling out $71.94 over the past 6 months that they've taken from me. I called to cancel and the guy kept talking over me. Kept telling me Oh I'll give you a discounted price and I said no I am 100% sure that I would like to cancel and I had to get nasty for him to finally listen to me and cancel the subscription that I never agreed to pay for in the first place. Also refused to give me any kind of refund including the current amount that is pending being taken out of my bank account as I type this. Horrible company would never recommend anybody to shop there and I'll never go back.

I was badly scammed and didn’t even know. FYE Backstage VIP I thought it was free, but when I got home I saw it wasn’t free, only for the first month. I kept emailing support, and they told me they couldn’t find anything about the number for my VIP card. Which doesn’t make sense. They told me if I get charged to contact them. Again doesn’t make sense, seeing they told me they couldn’t find anything about the information I gave them. I have a feeling if I contact them they’ll ask for the card information. Which heck no I won’t be giving them that. Hopefully going to the store itself will cancel it, before I get charged. Also I couldn’t even make a VIP account anyway. FYE needs to be shut down for a scam like this. Making all of us think it’s free.

Do not set up the backstage pass, you will be charged from other business for months almost year. They do sell your information and credit card information to other companies. The employee tells you nothing except they you will get free coupons. It also takes hours to cancel any subscription, you gotta jump through hoops. You are better off going to *** *****.

Got the notice in the mail about the Backstage Pass. Oh so simple! I can go to the website and cancel! This *monthly* charge i never agreed to. Yet I never get the promised email to reset my password for the website. So sure I will call…. Reluctantly. And experience the worst technical call ever with “ we are experiencing long delays, you may be waiting a long time” ad nauseam. Got the role call of “this is what you get for the membership” when I requested the cancellation too. No dude, I don’t - I literally thought it was cancelled.
      Oh yeah. I’m super happy.

My husband we to FYE to purchase an album. When he returned home, I found four receipts in the bag. 1. Purchase receipt 2. Backstage VIP Purchase AUTHORIZATION 3. Receipt - Agreement - to an $11.99 monthly fee. 4. AUTHORIZATION to send my credit / debit card & personal information to ******* for monthly charged magazine subscriptions. There was also a membership in the bag.
He had no idea he agreed to all this so I asked him to walk me through the purchase. At check out the associate asked if he wanted to be part of the loyalty / membership program. She said, 'all you need is an email." He stated he doesn't have an email (because he doesn't have an email). She said, we can just use this one. They used a "dummie' email they use at the location. He then was asked to sign the digital screen. Please note the screen pad is signature only - there is no explanation or disclaimer on the screen thus you do not know what you are signing. The teenage associate did not explain the details of each signature. You have no access to the language of the agreement until you have signed and the receipts have been printed. What he agreed to / purchased is AUTHORIZATION to a monthly *** membership of $11.99 and magazine subscriptions that we will be billed in two months. We can be charged because they have our credit and he unknowingly signed that the credit card info can be passed onto ********. I have found that there WAS a previous class action on this exact issue: Rovinelli, et al v. Trans World Entertaistnment Corp., et al., Case No. 1:18cv12377, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

When at the register, FYE will offer to enroll you in their “Rewards Program” (how it was stated by the cashier) to “save 10% on present and future purchases”. In reality, this is actually their paid “FYE VIP” program. This happened to both me and my wife on separate occasions at this same store. At no point is a cost mentioned for the program. Only afterward, on the fine print on the receipt do you see that its actually a trial and that if you don’t cancel in 30 days, then they will begin to charge $11.99 per month to the card used in store that day.
Additionally, for my wife, they also said that they could send her “free magazines”. Once again, at no point is a cost mentioned. We found out afterward, that this is actually a subscription for magazines through a company called “****.com”. Once again, if you don’t cancel by a certain date, then they will charge you for a full annual magazine subscription to the card on file.
Based on my own research online, this appears to be a widespread and predatory practice by FYE and is tied to commission of their employees. Hence the reason they will lie or otherwise obscure the cost from customers. See this example: https://www.******.com

Yup, same scam. I made a purchase last month and the cashier told me if I sign up with my email I can get a small discount, and I said yes. Just checked my bank account and I have a 11.99 subscription charge for "*** Backstage Pass". I was not made aware that I had signed up for a month free trial and a monthly subscription for 11.99. I don't even know what the benefits are supposed to be or what people are paying for, because none of it was explained to me. The emails sent to me were about actual things to buy from ***, and I didn't even receive an email stating I had been charged. I don't even have an account to sign in to the website. I called to cancel and receive a refund and the person said they did... but based on other reviews, I have zero confidence. I guess I'll keep emailing and calling until it happens.
This company's business practices are corrupt and unethical and I hope they fix their current policies on how they run their membership and train their employees better to clearly explain what customers are signing up for.
I mean, this has been happening for years. I would love to be able to make a complaint to an actual human that could actually do something for the company. I am not upset over 11.99, I am upset because I was scammed and countless other people have been scammed and will continue to be scammed if this company's complete carelessness is not stopped. I will not be returning to any *** store again and I recommend others don't as well.

As with many people here, I was tricked into signing up for the FYE Backstage pass. I was told it would be easy to cancel. I had forgotten about it the first month or two & then saw the charges. The create account page didn't even work. Trying to contact them over email also resulted in no reply. I tried getting my bank to block the charges but bc it was on my debit card they said they couldn't without a new card. Since I use that card for a lot of autopay things regarding my business I didn't want to do that right away. I then, tried to contact again, with no results as they kept charging me the 11.99 every month. I finally just had to get a new card & go through all the trouble of resetting all my other bills just to get the charge to stop happening. I will never shop at FYE again. They seem to only survive now by scamming customers. It isn't worth it.

I placed an order online for an item. Ordered on Nov 30th.
I’ve contacted them 15 times since the 15th asking about my order for Xmas and they kept saying wait 5 more days it will arrive. I tracked my package and see that it was damaged on the 11th and ***** called them to let them know. I asked for a reship on the 18th and it didn’t ship and didn’t get to give for Xmas. All I want now is my $39 refund. It’s been 30 days since they had my money!!
