      They placed ***** ******, a 3rd party, in charge of my specialty medication *******. I was required to apply for a copay card/ financial assistance for that medication with the drug manufacturer. I am unable to fill my prescription and am getting no help or correct information.

      This is by far the worst company ever. I recently had an out patient procedure, just received the bill for 15,000. Meritain states your claim has been processed, another letter in the mail states I have to submit documentation stating the information I provided during application was intentional. Please provide documents for your claim. No one has surgery to accumulate a bill, have someone cut on you and leave you stuck with a bill. I wouldn't recommend this company to a dead dog. I will be calling the news center, my attorney to make sure something gets done. Their are so many bad reviews on this site its frightening.

      This is the worst insurance I have ever had. We have spent so many hours on the phone trying to figure out how the pregnancy coverage works, we are told one thing before the care occurs and then told that the procedures won’t be covered because we didn’t have certain documents even though *we called to ask what was needed ahead of time.* Call center employees are incompetent and unhelpful. The prescription coverage is a joke also. Everything about this insurance has been stressful and frustrating.

      They don’t even deserve one star. An absolute NIGHTMARE of a company. I’ve had several insurances in my life but this one is the absolute worst I’ve ever dealt with! How can you guys still be operating with how poor your reviews are? I can’t believe my husband works for a multi-billion dollar company and they landed on this terrible insurance. It’s AWFUL- run! Almost every drs office I talk to also hate this insurance and say it’s a nightmare to deal with. This company should be SHUT DOWN. Going to contact the insurance commissioner now and finding a bad faith lawyer. Constant denials, so then why do we pay you? It’s a scam! I don’t know how y’all sleep at night knowing you are causing people so much distress and delaying important coverage. Disgusting. I hope you have the day you deserve.

      I absolutely hate this plan and this company. I've never dealt with an insurance company before that wouldn't even provide me with my insurance card. I also can't even deal directly with Meritain when I have questions or concerns about my insurance. I have to go through a middle-man company called ********. They have INSANE wait times. They told me it was because people were electing new insurance plans, but even after open enrollment ended, the wait times were still horrible. Why is it impossible to talk directly to Meritain and why is there such a horrible third-party I'm forced to deal with? So frustrating and a waste of money.

      We canceled our policy in July but they continued to withdraw money from our account until November. Then they said we never canceled "fully" and won't refund our money. They gave us one month back and said they couldn't do anything for the other few months.

      How does this company have an A+ BBB rating. It is a scam. You pay monthly for a service you believe will cover you in emergencies or for daily prescribed medication, but when your prescribed medication is more than their maximum for what they will support, they block the prescription entirely. Can’t wait to get new insurance.

      I've been wrangling with Meritain/Aetna for over five months regarding insurance coverage for a colonoscopy. I've had three previous, similar procedures over the last 25 years, the expenses for which were completely covered. Meritain's own coverage documents state that this procedure is a "Covered Expense", but they want me to pay more than half the costs. I asked Meritain to review the claim (which they denied) and then I appealed the decision (which they again denied). When I asked them for a written denial, I was told "The appeal is currently in review. Updated status should be available within 15-20 business days." This is similar to other responses I've had throughout the process ("Please allow up to 30 business days for this process."). Never once have they responded within those timeframes.
      Getting through to a customer service representative can take a very long time, and I will say that most of the representatives are professional enough but can only tell me to appeal the decision or to pay up. My current coverage is through my employer (15,000+ employees) and I will be recommending to the Human Resource Department that they change insurance carriers. I'm also considering retirement, and my insurance broker has highly recommended that I stay away from Aetna for any type of marketplace or supplemental Medicare coverage, as their track record is abysmal. I will recommend to anyone I know that they avoid using Meritain or Aetna at all costs. They are making a very good case for a single-payer system in the U.S.
      As to Meritain's standard response ("In order to review this matter, more information is required to help us in identifying the issue. Please submit a formal request for review along with any appropriate authorization forms and documents"), you've already got that information and my health care provider is threatening to refer their bill to the State Attorney General's Office. I don't have an additional "up to 30 business days" available.

      Absolutely awful. I used these for my flex plan through my employer. Worst company ever. Used this account for years. In the last two years I have submitted multiple claims (mind you flex plan is my own money!!!) and each claim has been denied even though I have submitted receipts and invoices from my dentist. When I call they can never actually tell me why these forms are no longer enough when they were for the last 8 years. This is theft and meritain should be shut down horrible horrible company.
