      On 5/10/2024 I entered into an agreement with Stainpro to stain (2 coats) my 2 back decks, pressure wash the deck railings and outdoor shed. The price to complete this work was quoted at $1000.00 at that time I provided Stainpro with a $300.00 down payment. On 6/26/2024 Stainpro came to my home and stained my back 2 decks and pressure washed the railings and shed. At that time, I spoke with Stainpro about painting my front porch and the new wood railings (2) on the front porch and 1 wood railing on the back porch. Stainpro agreed to complete this additional work. The agreed upon price for the additional work was quoted at $350.00. I then wrote a second check in the amount of $1050.00 which paid for everything in full. I was told they would be back on the following Monday, 7/1/2024 to paint the front porch (grey) and the front and back wood railings (white). Stainpro as part of the agreement would supply the paint. On 7/1/2024 Stainpro failed to show up. Since then, I have placed numerous phone calls to the company who promised they would come back to complete the work, but they had failed to do so. Eventually, Stainpro stopped answering my calls. On 7/17/2024 my niece placed a phone call to Stainpro at the number listed on their business card regarding my attempts to have the work completed as promised and paid for. She was advised they would be out no later than that Saturday 7/20/24 to complete the work. That Saturday, 7/20/2024 came and went and still the work remains incomplete. At this time, I have still been unable to get the company to respond to my efforts to get the work completed. I no longer believe Stainpro is operating in good faith and would like BBB assistance in resolving this issue. If the company is unable to complete the work as promised and paid for, I would like a refund in the amount of $350.00 so that I may find another company or individual that can complete the work.

      I saw Stainpro's advertisement in the local ******* magazine which said this business was fully insured and had over 10 years' experience with deck staining. The owner, John H********, came to my house on 11/19/23 to examine my deck and provide me with a quote to replace a few rotted boards, wash, strip/sand, and stain it in the spring of 2024. I accepted John H********* quote of $1,400. He then asked for 1/3 payment of $468 which I provided using my ******** Card.

      On 3/14/24, John H******** returned and replaced a few boards with the promise to return in April or May 2024 to wash, strip/sand, and stain the deck. He asked for another 1/3 payment of $468 which I provided using my ******** Card.

      By 5/23/24, I began texting and calling John H******** to schedule the remainder of this project. However, he has not returned my texts or phone calls. I now see that the BBB has received 3 complaints in the last 3 years and 2 complaints in the last 12 months, so it appears that John H********, owner of Stainpro, is a dishonest businessperson.

      Since some of the other complaints have highlighted the poor quality of Stainpro's services, I recently hired a reputable company to complete my deck project. Therefore, I no longer want John H******** to complete the project. Rather, I would like the Better Business Bureau to help me recover the $936 I paid to Stainpro. I'd be willing to allow him to retain the cost of the lumber (~6 boards) if he can produce a receipt verifying its cost. I'm not willing to pay for his labor since I'm now spending time to document this theft and file this complaint.

      I wrote a $200 check on May 1st to Jon Henrich of Stainpro as a deposit for power washing and sealing my deck. He indicated they'd be back to power wash "as soon as next week" with the work being done in four to six weeks. He cashed the check on May 1st. I called the week of 5/29, left a message, no response. I texted on 6/5, he responded on 6/6 indicated he'd be here on 6/9 to power wash. He did not show. I texted on 6/26, no response. I texted on 6/11 asking him to refund the deposit by 6/14, no response, no refund.

      On 5/13/21, StainPro contractors sealed our deck and stairs, which they said would last 2-3 years. But by that fall we noticed gaps appearing in the floor, railings and steps where the sealant had worn off or pealed. We contacted StainPro by phone about this issue the following April and were assured they would schedule us that spring for a “touch-up” as needed. But they did not call to arrange an appt. and the deck sealant continued to deteriorate so we called back several times between May and August. After several missed appointments, including a 2-week period in July and Aug. 31, we tried texting, but most of the time neither our phone calls nor our texts received timely responses (usually none at all). However, after we left a September message that we’d contact a 3rd party and request a partial refund if this matter wasn’t resolved, the owner John appeared at our house unannounced and looked at the deck. He told us he’d re-stain the deck where needed, then took our left-over can of stain to match the color. We made an appt. for 9/28 but StainPro did not show up or call, and the same thing happened for an Oct. appt. We requested that our can of stain be returned asap and that John call to discuss a plan moving forward, as the summer/fall season was ending. Since we have not heard from him and have grown weary of the general non-responsiveness to our attempts to contact the company, we are requesting the BBB’s assistance in resolving this issue.
