I am filing this complaint against Municipal Credit Union (MCU) due to unlawful and deceptive credit reporting practices. The account in question (Account #************ was closed and charged off in 2023. However, MCU continues to update this account on my ********************** report with a new ** (Charge-Off) status every single month most recently as of May ******************************************** payments. This gives the false impression that the account is actively delinquent, which is misleading and a violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). I did not pay any money directly to the company during this time, and I have not received any communication from MCU offering to resolve this matter. The credit bureaus mark the account under dispute, yet MCU continues to update it monthly anyway. *** also filed formal complaints with the ****, ***, and the ***********************************************. This appears to be deliberate re-aging of a closed account to harm my ********************** standing, and I am requesting that MCU immediately cease updates and permanently remove this account from all consumer reporting agencies.Customer Answer

I am writing in response to Municipal Credit Unions reply to my initial BBB complaint. Their response does not resolve the issue and fails to acknowledge the ongoing Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) violations.The account in question (Account #************ was charged off and closed since 2023. Yet MCU continues to furnish monthly charge-off notations and an increasing balance, which is a deceptive and unlawful practice known as re-aging. There have been no payments, activity, or legitimate updates, and this misleading practice is damaging my credit. A charged-off account must not be updated as if its newly delinquent every month. I had my MCU account for over 10 years and never had any issues. Now my account is restricted for no reason. I called every number member services has given me, even fraud prevention services. They don't know what is wrong, only to be in a situation where now I can't take out my direct deposit pay stub to feed myself and my family. I will have to close this account. Please don't get MCU. It's worse than **********. I made a terrible MISTAKE TRUSTING THIS BANK WITH MY MONEY; NOW I CAN'T EVEN TAKE IT OUT. Response time to help is outrageous. I received a letter of intent to foreclose from Municipal Credit Union, requesting that I pay $2,450.00 to bring my account current. After fulfilling the requested payment, I was informed that the amount incorrect, and they are now demanding an additional $755. Despite fulfilling my obligations based on the letter I received, this additional demand has been made.Municipal Credit Union has acknowledged making a mistake is unwilling to rectify my account. Municipal credit union has stolen $80 of my money that was mistakenly sent to a different account. I have supplied municipal credit union with proof and they denied my claim with no law, no policy just opinion on what the receiver can and cant do even though the receiver stated it was the wrong account which that individual also has MCU. Date of Transaction - 4-28-2025 I am writing to file a formal complaint against Municipal Credit Union (MCU) for what I believe to be the unjustified and intentional withholding of funds from a recently deposited check, as well as for extremely unprofessional and rude customer service.I deposited a check into my account with **********************, expecting the standard processing and clearing time. However, MCU has effectively held my funds hostage without providing a clear or consistent explanation. When I contacted their customer service via phone to request clarification, I was met with rude and dismissive behavior from multiple representatives. Rather than assist me, the tellers offered spiteful and unhelpful solutions, often speaking over me or making statements that lacked any real resolution or logic.Additionally, I was placed on hold for extended periodssometimes more than 30 minutesonly to be met with more indifference when the call was finally answered. I strongly suspect that the check was intentionally cleared a day late in retaliation for my persistence in following up, which only compounds the unethical nature of this ************* a customer, I expect transparency, courtesy, and reasonable access to my funds. MCU has failed on all accounts.
