  Every review is true I wish I would have listened and not made the mistake of opening a Betterment account. To begin, I am following their small print policy that you can only transfer and withdrawal to and from accounts you own. I opened an account and put in a large chunk of money they restricted me from being able to get out my money every way possible. Even though you provide your verification at account opening, I had to verify my identity again. it was too late and I used funds from another account. Then I tried to do a withdrawal again and they said I needed to verify my address again but with a bill (even though it is on the ** verification I sent them). Again got it cleared but had to use separate money so never actually withdrew. NOW trying to make a withdrawal they are telling me I have to send them bank statements of proof of ownership of the account I deposited the money from and the account I am trying to deposit the money to but now that are also holding my money I was trying to withdraw saying they cant cancel a transaction already in place but my other bank declined it so they are just holding it so I am not earning interest. This is just a huge example of corporate greed. They say its for my security but if that was true they would have verified my bank BEFORE I deposited it. I am disgusted and am moving all my money to another account as soon as they release my money from their tight grasp. Save yourself the headache for the few dollars or cents you could earn with their slightly higher interest rates and bank with an online Ally account or a local bank.

  Feels like only bad reviews here, so I would like to say that I'm a member since 2016 with 4 different types of accounts and never had issues. The company is responding ok to all requests. The interface is easy and sufficient for the offering. I feel strongly that this rating doesn't give a good judgment for the company. Sure some people always have some issues, but for 99% of customers, Betterment is an excellent financial service.

  I would not trust my money with them. They locked my account for deposits that were legal and valid. Support is non existent over the weekend. They will not reopen my account even if I cease the activity they were concerned about.

  They closed my account without any notice. When I logged in, it said my account was suspended for suspicious activity, and to call customer support. They informed me that because I was out of the country for more than 6 months, they closed my account. They said they can't operate out of ******, which is odd, since they advertise that they reimburse for international fees. Very misleading. They said they would move my money to an account that I had attached, but it wouldn't be done today. Now I am stuck in a different country, with bills to pay, and no access to my money for an undisclosed amount of time.
