I am sorry to see that so many people have felt cheated by Pumpkin Pet Insurance. My three dogs have been a part of Pumpkin since 2021 and I've only encountered one pre-existing condition and that was for periodontal disease for my 10 year old toy poodle. I knew this going into the procedure but put in a claim for the broken tooth they had to remove that was not due to periodontal disease. They covered ***** 11 year old Mini Schnauzer has multiple problems and was most recently hospitalized for heart failure over Memorial weekend. The bill came to over $5500 and Pumpkin covered 90%...just like they said they would. Furthermore, they have what's called "Pumpkin Now" where if you file a big claim like my pet's emergency bill, they will review and cover it immediately with funds in your bank IMMEDIATELY! This allowed me to pay my bill right there at the emergency room! For me and my dogs, they have been nothing less than amazing, wonderful and spot on! They also have live people as ************************ who are knowledgeable and answer all your questions. I would highly recommend you call them to review what you are disagreeing with on their payments or lack of payments. They will take care of it for you! This is not a paid advertisement either. I do not work for the company. I am a genuinely satisfied customer who couldn't be happier with my choice of Pumpkin for my pets ??

This company is a FRAUD.All of their 4.5 out of 5-star reviews must be paid advertisements.Ive been paying over $100 a month in premiums for my 6-year-old dog for more than two years. In April 2025, my dog had an emergencyloss of appetite, no energy, ****** diarrhea, and vomiting.I had to take my dog to the vet two days in a row because the clinic doesnt offer overnight stays. The first visit cost over $500 and included IV fluids, blood work, and medication. The second day, my dog was still unwell, so I brought them back for a full-day stay, which cost another $600+. Thankfully, my dog began to recover by Sunday.I filed two claims for the separate visits. A week later, I called Pumpkin and was told that they had received all the required documents and that my vet had submitted the medical reports. They assured me everything looked good.Five days later, I called again to follow up. They told me to wait. Then, three days later, I received two emails stating both claims were denied. The reason? They considered it a pre-existing condition. I called for clarification, and they told me that because my vet noted a poor appetite and vomiting back in January 2024, they considered the April 2025 emergency14 months laterto be the same issue. Even the ****** diarrhea was dismissed as related, so everything was ********* seems like anything is considered a pre-existing condition with this company. I wouldnt be surprised if your pet got hit by a car and they told you it was pre-existing because youd walked your dog down that road before.Bottom line: If your pet has ever visited a vet for any reason, and its on record, Pumpkin will likely use it to deny future claims. Please stay far away from Pumpkin Insurance. I genuinely hope enough people come together to file a class-action lawsuit. I know Im not the only one who feels completely cheated by them.

Thank you for your feedback, Rodion. We definitely understand it can be frustrating when a claim is not approved. Like most providers, we do not provide coverage for pre-existing conditions. This means that if something occurs, or was showing signs or symptoms prior to enrollment or during the waiting period, it would not be eligible for coverage. This includes conditions that are related to, secondary, or resultant from a pre-existing condition. Once a claim is filed, it is then processed by a Pumpkin claims team member, all of which have a veterinary medical background. Our claims team uses medical records and documentation provided by your veterinarian in order to determine coverage eligibility. Keep in mind that while we may not be able to offer coverage for pre-existing issues, new unrelated accidents or illnesses may be eligible for coverage. If you need any further assistance, you can reach our care team by phone or chat during business hours, or email us anytime.

I have to agree with the other reviews stating that they claim everything is a pre-existing condition. They have done the same with me, and it's completely untrue. This was the first time my puppy had ever been to ANY vet with the exception of vaccinations. We think she ate something on a walk that made her sick, and somehow that is pre-existing. Not only will they not cover the claim, but now my puppy isn't covered if she gets sick for the next 180 days. The claim was pending for a month with no communication, and then just a flat denied without any explanation. Don't waste your money with them, select a difference insurance carrier. I am looking elsewhere.

We chose Pumpkin for its advertised dental coverage, but when our cat needed a necessary tooth removal, every claim was deniedforcing us to pay thousands out of pocket. On top of that, nearly every new ailment over the past year has been classified as a pre-existing condition. We also tried the ************** but quickly canceled after realizing how misleading it was. If a vet discovers anything during a wellness visit, not only does it become ineligible for reimbursement, but the condition is also immediately deemed pre-existingensuring they wont cover it in the future either. That completely defeats the purpose of preventive care.Pumpkin claims to help pet parents save on routine preventive care, but in reality, they use every loophole possible to avoid paying out. This insurance is a waste of money, preying on well-intentioned pet parents. Were now putting the money we were putting toward a premium into a pet emergency savings account.

Such a life saver! I have had Pumpkin for two years now and the first year I filled a few claims for my dogs minor UTI issues which was easy to do and reimbursement was pretty quick. This year my dog had sudden issues that required multiple hospitalizations. The cost for this exceeded 20K, I would not have been been to agree to care without Pumpkin (my plan covered 90% of costs with a 20K cap). The only downside is that you have to pay the vet upfront and then get reinbursed but I called and asked for my claim to be expedited and they were quick to review and approve it. I would recommend this in conjuntion with something like Carecredit to help while the claim gets approved.

I researched many pet insurance companies and my vet also suggested Pumpkin. However the 1st claim I submitted long after the waiting period everything was denied and the reason 1039 they stated their idea of pr-exsisting. Constant email sent to me that they were awaiting our Golden Retriever's records from the vet. This factually was a lie by Pumpkin as the vets office received confirmation all records were sent. Then another email I have stated from Pumpkin they have his records after I questioned their accuracy. Office exam visit including antibiotics, wound care, cytology and ear cleaning denied. However we received back only pennies. Another claim for a sick visit/exam approved antibiotic approved, ******* approved but, ear swab, ear cleaning, ear med denied? We have full coverage w/$500 annual deductible and that's fine however to deny many things that are NOT pre-existing including none of his recorde have indicated these issues as pre-existing are all of a sudden pre-existing? Before Pumpkin attaches their response let me start by saying, we read the entire contract including my husband draft and passes laws here in ************* and we read the contract entirely so don't even try throwing out your contract because I have no problem proving you are wrong! I will be contacting our very close friend and Colleague The WV Attorney General regarding the denials and IF Pumpkin has board certified veterinarians that make the final decisions on claims. Which is egregious to not actually read the vet documentation stating such claims are NOT due to pre-existing conditions but due to undercovering the reason for an animal to all of a sudden have a bad allergy to something unknown and need treatment past the waiting period and continue treatment until the underlying cause is found and the records do NOT show any pre-existing issue for a bacterial infection! ***, I discussed this with the vet this morning and all Pumpkin Pamphlets have now been removed.

Ive had several occasions to file claims on behalf of my pets. Let me tell you they are the best!!! Our little ****** got sick and we had to take her to an out of town pet emergency clinic. They covered 90% of the bill. ******s health declined and we eventually had to send her to doggy heaven :-(. She was only three years old. But thru it all Pumpkin was there. The conversations we had with them were positive. They even sent a nice card and candle in ******s memory. I have a new puppy named ******. I signed up for coverage with her. She is having some issues. They are covering that as well. I just cant say enough about how good these folks are!!!! You can call them and actually speak to them, no leave me a message stuff.

Denied all of my claims after paying them 80$mth for 5 mths. First they demied 3 claims for an emergency visit due to my cat having blood in her stool and lethargic/fever (due to not having complete medical history - which was actually complete besides the fact they wanted 9 years old spay records (and took them 2 mths). ****. Then when I got the old spay records (which had nothing to do with her IBD diagnosis which happened during my covered insurance period) - they denied my claims for her ultrasound and vet visit ($1100 - a lot when I make $23/hr working full time at a corporation) due to preexisting conditions bc the emergency vet visit paperwork showed that she first threw up a week before my waiting period kicked in. What the actual heck is going on here.I had no diagnosis, and in order to get a diagnosis, I had to go to a vet, and the claims are denied because she vomited a hair ball a few times and bile, and a tiny bit of food (all fairly normal cat things) during my waiting period?I had pet insurance for 4 straight years before this, and yes given I picked a bad time to switch (bc lemonade ins went up) - and this all happened during my pumpkin waiting period - but how is this considered pre existing when I as the pet owner didnt know about it, nor was there any symptoms shown until the day she passed ****** stool?Disgusting that this company can get away with ripping people off of so much money every month. Really disgusting. Ill never purchase pet insurance again. Also I came to find through medical research that *** is NOT incurable - and Ive come up with 2 herbs to give my cat that ensure she has zero symptoms and continues to eat her normal non Rx expensive c*** dehydrated protein food. What a sick sick society we have. I pray to god that this new govt administration cleans up corrupt companies and unjust laws.

Used them for 5 years. Waste of money. Claims were denied erroneously and when they did cover a claim it covered barely any of the expense. I am better off putting the $300+ a month into an interest bearing savings account and use it when needed.

Thanks for your feedback, *******! Please keep in mind you must first meet your chosen deductible in eligible costs prior to receiving reimbursement. You can change your deductible each year at renewal if you would like reimbursement back more quickly!
