I was seeing a dentist in the office that was accepting my insurance. He left the office and they rescheduled my appt with a dentist that didn't take my insurance. They didn't tell me this after the appt was complete. I told them at that time to mark it down that this was a them error and that I'm not responsible. Well today I got a bill. They are saying I have a deductible and refusing to call my insurance company to verify this. I only have a deductible for out of network which should never have been the case because they lied about my insurance coverage and didn't inform me till after. They also had me pay for part of my cleaning done a few weeks prior to that because they said my insurance wouldn't cover it. Well I got the eob and my insurance did cover it and they got double paid on it. They are refusing to refund me that payment. The office Manager is the rudest person I have ever spoken too. And shouldn't have any customer service position.

I had a wisdom teeth extraction done by Shine on 11/13/23 and was charged $3,300 full price for services. Previously when I was in the office 10/25/23 scheduling the extraction I asked to receive a preauthorization of services from Delta Dental, my insurance company, to get an estimated cost of services and run through the insurance how much the insurance would cover and how much I would owe. I also asked if the provider would be in network and takes my insurance. I was informed yes the dentist takes my insurance and the bill would run through my insurance first and I would be billed whatever my insurance does not cover. So on 11/13 I was not expecting to pay $3,300 up front but I did after the admin informed me my insurance would send a check to me after the claim was processed and I would be reimbursed. On 12/4 I called Delta Dental regarding the claim submitted to check on status and they informed me that Shine is contracted provider and so they should not have charged me the full $3,300 in the office at time of service and that the check for $1,431 covered by insurance will be sent to Shine, so I need to pursue a refund from Shine for $1,431 covered by insurance and $1,660 which is the network discount provided by Delta Dental. Delta Dental informed me my responsibility should have only been $209 and Shine is to refund me $3,091 in total consisting of the $1,431 and $1,660. I reached out to Shine about this and they told me they will only issue a refund for whatever is on the check from the insurance when they receive the check, so only the $1,431 if that is what is on the check. However I am owed $3,091 because I am only responsible for $209 according to my insurance. This whole process I feel that Shine has been deceitful about cost of services and the insurance process for their own financial gain and as a result I have been coordinating with the insurance when they should have been and trying to get my money back. I have attached supporting documents including the charge and explanation of benefits from the insurance company outlining my responsibility of $209. I am seeking a refund of $3,091 from Shine Dental.

Patient was notified that the dentist she was seeing was out of network, that is why the patient had paid in full, and was told the office would submit all necessary paperwork for any reimbursement from Delta. Patient will be receiving a check from the insurance company because the Dr. is out of network.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

I was not notified or informed that the dentist who would be performing my extraction is out of network and this is unethical and unacceptable.  My insurance company has processed a claim and sent Shine a check that Shine will not honor and acknowledge.  Shine claims they sent my insurance another claim submission for the same service as out of network but my insurance company did not receive this claim to date and have not disbursed me any reimbursement to date.  Shine has also not issued me any refund to date.
