"Christian" company that takes advantage of new mothers trying to navigate through things post partum. I tried to get the best care for my son, while I was self employed, when I acme across this "wonderful" company. Stay away from them. No wellness visits or ER visit was covered. Please please please do your research on this company before paying ($330 per month) and getting 0 benefit from it. No claim for taxes, absolutely NO coverage with the hospital. I work for a company now and the hospital still has me as self pay then I have to confirm that I have insurance every time I need to take my son in now. It's caused me absolute embarrassment the last year and a half. $0 paid from the months of $330 that I could have covered all bills and more but instead I couldn't even get them to accept a bill. It's a disheartening scam and they'll make it sound so good on the phone. Please do not fall for their schemes and front as a Christian. They do not want to help for the better good. They'll take your money and smile in your face the entire time. You will receive no refund for the scam you enter into either. I have tried. I'm left with medical debt thanks to this company.

Hello ******,We appreciate the opportunity to respond to your concerns. All medical bills are shared according to our CHM Guidelines, which are provided to all members. These Guidelines outline the criteria for medical bill eligibility, including the Personal Responsibility amounts assigned to each of our programs. Personal Responsibility operates similarly to a deductible, and the Personal Responsibility needs to be met prior to any eligible medical bills being shared. We cannot authorize medical bills over the phone, and we did not receive a bill for your son's ** visit; however, based on the information you provided to us over the phone, we advised that the ** visit may not meet your son's yearly Personal Responsibility amount for the year. **** practice and record is to share 100% of members medical bills eligible under the ministrys Guidelines and their selected program. For every dollar sent to the ministry, more than 90 cents are returned to members in medical bill reimbursement. Historically, the ministry has satisfied more than $12 billion in members medical bills. We wish you well moving forward, CHM Staff

Joined CHM 01/010/24 and Gave notice to CHM that we would be ceasing coverage on 12/31/24. My wife was offered a new plan that made more sense for us through her employer. We had to do an emergency room visit on 12/6/24 for my two year-old daughter. The resulting bills were around $10,000. We filed the claim while we still had active coverage. We Never got back confirmation for reimbursement so I called them in February 2025. (They terminate your access to their portal if you are no longer an active member so I could not check the status online). They claim that their policy states that they will not pay for claims unless we are still an active members even though we had paid for membership through 12/31 and the incident occurred on 12/6. When asked for them to provide a reference of this guideline in their membership agreement, they were unable to do so. The membership I was upon sign up, stated nothing about this policy.Representative claim there was nothing he could do about it and that Regretfully they would not be able to reimburse us for any costs related to this incident. Number one I think this is an absolutely shameful policy if this is indeed their policy. Number two, we should not be held to this guideline if they cannot provide any proof that we agreed to this upon sign-up of our membership.

Was excited about the concept of sharing plan and helping others and not supporting corrupt healthcare companies, but this company is just as bad. They have a 45 day window that you have to wait in order to be covered by maternity care. Which isn’t what you think it means, you would have to wait 4 months on the plan before getting pregnant. Which for a company that doesn’t believe in contraceptives is really astounding. Well after a year of trying to get pregnant we thought it wouldn’t happen surely enough after 1 month in the membership we did. Something that should have been joy for us was met with sorrow knowing we had denied all other coverages and now are left with potentially a huge hospital bill we won’t afford. This company is such a blessing maybe someone will cover abortion care so we can try again in 4 months (sarcasm). Won’t recommend this company to anyone.

Hello Dee,Thank you for reaching out with your concerns. Our *** Guidelines state the following regarding maternity eligibility: The maternity event will be shared according to the members program participation 300 days prior to their expected due date, as verified by a medical professional. We recommend that members wait around 45 days after their join date before becoming pregnant to give yourself enough of a buffer, but we do not determine eligibility off of the 45 day suggestionwe determine eligibility based on the 300-day guideline. I strongly recommend submitting your medical bills to CHM for review (through our Member Portal) so we can properly determine eligibility. If you'd like to speak to someone directly regarding the Guidelines and eligibility, you can reach us at ************.CHM Staff

Complaint Regarding Mismanagement by Christian Healthcare Ministries
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM). I have been a member for over two years, consistently paying monthly fees for the Gold Plus membership. I joined CHM believing it was a trustworthy healthcare solution rooted in Christian values, but my recent experience has proven otherwise.
    Misrepresentation of Services
CHM advertises itself as a healthcare alternative with a focus on helping members. However, it appears to prioritize the financial gain of its board members, who reportedly enjoy lavish lifestyles. Using the term "ministries" to describe such operations is misleading.
    Failure to Provide Assistance
In May 2024, I underwent gallbladder removal surgery. Following CHM’s instructions, I paid all expenses out of pocket and submitted invoices for reimbursement. For seven months, I provided all requested medical records. CHM ultimately denied my claim, citing a pre-existing condition, despite no prior gallbladder issues or symptoms. Their demand for two years of records, knowing I only had 18 months due to no prior medical issues, seems unreasonable.
    Questionable Practices
CHM’s handling of my claim demonstrates delay tactics and an apparent strategy to deny payouts. Despite complying with their requirements, I was left with significant financial burden.
    Conclusion
In my opinion, CHM exploits its members under the guise of a ministry. Refusing legitimate claims and misusing funds betrays the trust of its members and undermines the values it claims to uphold.
My member ID is ******. I hope CHM will address these concerns and reconsider its practices. I am available for further discussion.

Hello ******,We appreciate the opportunity to respond to your concerns. After reviewing your membership, it looks like there may have been some confusion regarding our communication. We did request to review your Medical Records to confirm that your condition was not active pre-existing. After reviewing your Medical Records, we determined and communicated that your condition was maintained pre-existing, and it was approved for sharing on our Gold Schedulegranted all other Guidelines were met. I can confirm that all eligible charges were fully processed and reimbursement checks were mailed.Through the direction of *** leadership and our voluntary Board Members, *** has satisfied more than $12 billion in medical bills. **** practice and record is to share 100% of members medical bills eligible under the Guidelines and their selected program. For every dollar sent to the ministry, more than 90 cents are returned to members in medical bill reimbursement. We hope this addresses your concerns. I cancelled my membership for a time frame because they told me as long as I sign up 3 months within conception then I Will be covered. I was about to sign up again until i noticed a new consent I had to approve... It states this is pritty much a donation policy and no guarantee on them paying claims. Called them just to verify and she said how they have some criteria and I told them about the pregnancy and will they cover that? Now shes saying no and only will cover 45 days onboarding with them without conception will I qualify.
Glad I called ahead to clarify bc I would have had to pay out of pocket for their mistake... she was also very defensive, short, non christlike saying they never said that and we encouraged for her to listen to our recordings. And then switched to being nice when we said we were not going to join and very much acting.
And again I am a christian as well. Pastors wife actually. Love the Lord and we do have a ethical business as well. Just warning everyone!

Hello ********* Thank you for the opportunity to respond. As you requested, we reviewed your membership and listened to the call recordings. After reviewing our call logs, we can confidently say that we did not discuss maternity eligibility with you when you called to cancel. Your maternity eligibility didnt come up until you expressed interest in re-activating your membership 8 months later. At that time, you were informed thatbecause you were already pregnantyour maternity event would be ineligible for sharing if you re-joined. This is consistent with our CHM Guidelines, which we abide by in all cases to determine all medical bill eligibility. This consent you mentioned is our Checklist of Understanding, a checklist we require every member to complete upon becoming a *** member. You signed this checklist when you initially joined back in March. **** practice and record is to share 100% of members medical bills eligible under the ministrys Guidelines and the members selected program. Historically, the ministry has satisfied more than $11 billion dollars in members medical bills. If you have additional questions regarding this issue, you can contact us at ************. We'd be happy to answer any questions you have.CHM Staff

DO NOT expect to get any sharing from this company. I waited 14 months for a review of my medical bill for a prophylactic colonscopy for my son. Now I just found out that they don't cover prophylactic procedures...mind you, they will cover a prophylactic mammogram but not for colon. Makes no sense, Seems like they would want you to be proactive and not reactive. This process of sharing is the most complicated and the most inefficient process of receiving a share is unbelievable.

    Date: 11/15/2024

Hello ***,Thank you for reaching out with your concerns. After reviewing your membership, it's clear that there were miscommunications for your son's procedure. Colonoscopies and preventative procedures of that nature are eligible for sharing across all programs, granted Qualifying Amounts are met and Personal Responsibility is satisfied. We're sorry for the frustrations this has caused. We've reached out to you personally to give you a more detailed explanation, next steps, and an apology. Thank you for your understanding, and thank you for the opportunity to correct our miscommunication. Blessings,CHM Staff

Weve been with *** for about 6 years and the price started out at $499/mo with an out of pocket $500 for a family of 5. We really never had to file a claim thankfully. Now we are a family of 3(2children grown and on their own ins). The monthly cost has steady gone up including the out of pocket **** Just got a letter that as of Jan 2025 the premium will go up to $765 with an out of pocket of $1250. Were about to have to make some decisions. We cant keep increasing the price plus the *** of customer responsibility. We can save $765 per month and pay our medical bills instead of paying CHM and losing that $$$$. Were very frustrated!!!

    Hello Monica,

Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your concerns.

We understand the frustration around rising costs, and know these decisions aren't made without much consideration and research. The Health Care Research Institute of Price Waterhouse Coopers International, one of the world’s Big 4 accounting firms, forecasts an 8% increase in commercial healthcare costs in 2025. Even with these price changes, CHM remains a remarkable value, and we consistently keep administrative costs low so more funds can go toward sharing members’ medical bills.

We provide a telehealth option for all our members so they can save money on incidental medical expenses. This service is available at no additional cost on all CHM programs, and we encourage members to take advantage of this perk.

We thank you for your membership over the past 6 years, and we hope to be able to continue serving you through our ministry of health cost sharing.

    Blessings,
    CHM Staff

I used then for approximately 2+ years until I obtained insurance through my employment. Cannot recommend them enough! I only had to put in two claims and both were paid in full without any dispute. I paid for my general care, but that was far cheaper than what I would have spent on insurance premiums. I really liked that when I did contact them, I was never left on hold for any length of time, nor did I get stuck with a never ending automated voice directions. Great organization!

Weve been with this company for years. Weve never had any issues. It is a few different forms and takes a few minutes to fill all of it out but weve always gotten paid. I am disappointed however how expensive it is getting to cover my family of 4. It seems like every year I get a notice that the price is going up as well as the personal responsibility. It also takes about 120 days to get payment which can seem like forever when you have high dollar bills and each company wants their money. I wish they would update the member portal when checking on the status of the claim so I can see when the reimbursement has been sent out. Overall, its been a great experience and pretty easy. I do recommend them because of the ease and payout. But PLEASE *** stop raising the rates.

My family has been a member of a Christian Healthcare Ministry (formerly called Christian Brotherhood) for well over 30 years. It is the most wonderful organization I have ever worked with. Compared to the cost of retail health insurance premiums, the cost of CHM is a small fraction of that cost. I have had (7) seven TOTAL joint replacements, as well as various other medical issues over the past 30 years. CHM has always came through and paid most if not all of my bills. There is a saying that says "You get what you pay for". Many people have unrealistic expectations of what CHM is and what they do. Many people expect premium, gold standard health insurance plans for the price of very inexpensive, budget monthly cost of CHM plans. Dollar for dollar, this organization works miracles for the monthly amount they charge. My family would be bankrupt if it were not for CHM. I will gladly defend this organization for all of the good work they have done over the years in helping Christians and non-Christians alike who would other wise have no medical coverage or help with their medical bills.
