July 2024 a boy showed up to our home telling us how the neighbors just signed up for their service and a few were already under contract with them. We were told they would come back out within a few days and do the initial inspection and treatment for 137.39 and then it would be 169.34 for the next 3 quarterly inspection and treatments which would be Nov 2024, Feb 2025 and May 2025. The first initial inspection and treatment was 7/25/2024 and the boy done a good job explaining what he was doing and why. He told us they would be back within 30 days to check on the progress of the treatment. August 29 2024 I came home to a paper saying they were there and treated the yard again, thinking it was just being treated due to still having active ants and spiders. We received a bill for that treatment for 169.34 which we were surprised because the quarterly treatments weren’t supposed to until November 2024. We have a ring camera and we watched it and it showed that a boy did treat some of the front and side of yard but never went to back yard ( fenced in ) to his treatments there and never went under a raised porch which has windows that should have been treated(front yard). Let company know and they continued to bill until finally they wanted to see the ring videos which unfortunately deleted after 60 days. I contacted Ring to see if we could get the videos but we could not. So now this scam company wants $381.60 for the treatment they shouldn’t have done until November 2024 and a cancellation fee.

A guy on a Segway was in our neighborhood over the summer selling this Moxie Pest Control service. He mentioned my neighbors, by name, saying they signed up for the service already. He was offering a deal for $169 for the first treatment and then there would be 3 or 4 other treatments after that. I was unsure of the service because (1) I don't typically do door to door sales and (2) I am unsure about pest products since I have pets. I asked if I could try it out and then decide. The "sales person" told me I could cancel at anytime. I just recently attempted to cancel the service and they told me I would have to pay a cancellation fee. I mention the conversation with the sales person and the fact he said nothing about a cancellation fee. They said it was written in the contract and that the conversation was my word against his and I had no way to prove it. I cancelled the service saying I would not pay a cancellation fee yet they charged me $483. I have called multiple times to try and rectify this and the "managers" say there is nothing they can do. I know others in the neighborhood have complained about this company and their tactics. If nothing else, it was a lesson to me (and my husband!) not to engage door to door sales people.

A solicitor from Moxie, Grant, came to our house and said they had a special pest treatment that was typically $400 and was now $169 with tax $180.41. Grant mentioned that many of our neighbors were using Moxie, which was untrue. I thought it was a one time fee for one time pest control. Grant said Moxie would return in 30 days to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment. I was unaware that the actual total was going to $902.05. I would have never agreed to spend that much on pest control if Grant would have explained the details and not only mentioned the fee of $169 which is very misleading. I called about canceling and Kathryn, who I talked to at the Cleveland office said if I canceled Moxie would charge me $600. There was an opportunity to cancel after 3 days without penalty. In my opinion it is poor business practice to mislead the customer and not communicate verbally that it is 12 month agreement and there is a penalty for canceling.
