After completing inpatient rehab at another facility, I was strongly advised to follow up with outpatient care at a local rehabilitation center. Brightview of ******* ** happened to be the closest option and I made the decision to get enrolled there. I made weekly appointments and always remained on time to each individual session scheduled and complied with weekly drug screenings. None of my drug screenings had come back positive for any substances and I told my counselor there that I had just finished an inpatient program stay with another business for the past three months prior to waiting a month to get connected with an outpatient program. After speaking with their physician over the computer, she confessed to me that my screen had come back positive for pregnancy. I naturally had no idea since it had only been less than 4 weeks since conception. She also stated that she did not believe that I needed (if any) treatment regarding addiction. I stated that I was there to fulfill a court order with the state of PA that decided to resentence me to that dui requirement that I had already once fulfilled in their state back in 2020. Despite her suggestion, this business gave me treatment anyhow. I was scheduled every week and arrived on time each day scheduled. My counselor had NEVER went over techniques or tactics I’ve used or could use to remain sober from alcohol or drugs. She was more worried about how her office looked and talking about her own personal agenda with her daughter than why I was even there and what I was there to work on as far as treatment goes. Her name was Kelly. Also this business made me wait for hours to get started after they were open and I was the FIRST patient to show for their day on MULTIPLE occasions. Lastly, after completing their treatment program and fulfilling the obligation to my assigned probation officer, I have recently received notice that it was only through verbal consent that I had completed treatment. BrightView is a substance use disorder treatment provider subject to 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality requirements. Therefore, in the absence of a signed Release of Information, we cannot comment on whether an individual was assessed or received treatment for SUD. However, generally speaking, when patients are referred by a third party for assessment, including the criminal justice system, that assessment can take 30-45 days and includes urine drug screens, assessments by licensed counselors and medical professionals. If the individual is assessed as not having a substance use disorder, including alcohol use disorder, then treatment may not be appropriate. BrightView does not have a defined program which patients complete or from which they "graduate." BrightView works with local courts and probation departments to provide individual assessments as required by the court/probation and then to provide medically necessary treatment to individuals with substance use disorders and to report on such treatment as requested by the court/probation and consented to by the patient. If the court system is not local to the BrightView center, the patient must provide that information to BrightView to ensure coordination with the court. Patients and prospective patients may call ###-###-#### and ask to be directed to the Patient Advocate to resolve any concerns.Initial Complaint

Hello ***,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention! Unfortunately, given the restrictions of HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2, we are unable to provide any information on a public platform like the BBB website. Even acknowledging that someone is a patient or former patient would be a violation of 42 CFR Part 2. With this in mind, we will do our best to resolve any issues offline in a compliant way that respects and protects the identity of our patients. Contacting BrightView directly is usually the best and fastest way to resolve a complaint, as we can provide direct answers and context that cannot be presented on a public platform like this.
Warm regards,
The BrightView Health team

Better Business Bureau,
I have reviewed the response made by the business concerning complaint ID ******** and have determined that it does not resolve my issue. For your reference, the reasons for my rejection are outlined below.
As the patient who filed this complaint, I find it unacceptable that the business is using HIPAA, which is intended to protect me as their former client, to justify their incompetence and the astronomical billing for care I did not receive. This is a blatant attempt to defraud me.
Regards,

I went to BrightView in ********** ** on or about 2/2/2022 to seek help with opioid addition that I had gotten while having my back pain resolved. It worked and I continued with their program until April of this year. On 1/1/2023 I changed my health insurance. January of this year through April I continued my appointments with BrightView. Eveytime I went to an appointment I paid my $30 co-pay as before. In March of this year I received a bill for almost $2400.00. I called them to find out what was going on and they then told me that they don't accept my insurance. They said they called me in February to tell me about not taking my insurance and could not leave a message. I have never had that problem before and I asked them why they only called once. Also why in three months did they accept my $30 co-pay for insurance they didn't`t accept. So now as a retired, fixed income person I paid their bill for $2400 and don't have any disposable income or I would take them to court to explain why they first accepted my co-pay at the times of my visit and second why they never made a good faith effort to let me know they didn't take my insurance.
Please help.

03/01/23 medical insurance fully kicks back in.
03/03/23 $50.00 they demand i pay for my copay visit since my insurance hasn't paid.
03/10/23 same as above for following visit.. the supervisor of the parma office (where I have my appointments at every) the desk clerk as well told me. Just pay something right now & u will get it refunded once they pay off ur close to $20,000 medical bill (which was paid within the 1st few days. My counselor Shannon & i called to confirm that it was paid off.. so my refund should have been sent out. So I ask, the supervisor "Charice" or "sharese" said they mailed me a check. So 2 weeks go by. And they buzz me to the back and I see her and say hey I haven't received my check yet. She says oh, they have it on hold now.. (but I thought they sent me a check) (also I still have the 2 $50.00 receipts the clerk gave me each time I paid.) So I ask her for brightview billing departments #. She gave me the wrong number 1st (which i know she knows it, becuz she kept telling me they were on her back about my current bill (at that time) and said refund will be sent when insurance is fixed... I just want my refund plz...
