They charge high service fees & I'm not certain they have any intention of fixing these appliances. Why would they??

In response to the complaint regarding the washer at the ******* residence. Our technician diagnosed the unit needed a tub bearing which is at the base of the tub. We were called to the home for a Whistling noise and then smoke not spinning.
If the customer was not happy with the original technician's diagnosis, we offer to send another tech, for a second set of eyes, at no charge within 30 days. This customer did not want our company to come back. The customer's letter did state that the washer is repaired, if she sends me a copy of there invoice we can review for a refund. The same with the dryer, if we can get a copy of the invoice were she did get repaired, we will review.
Our technician diagnosed that the dryer needed a heating element, the customer was going to buy it direct from *********.
After listing to our recordings, the customer was quoted our charges. The customer would not let us come back to resolve her washer and dryer issues, including a new issue with the dryer door latch.
We do try to fix all appliances, but sometimes it does not make monetary sense. We try to explain to customer's when taking the original service appointment over the phone, if we think the unit is worth being looked at base on what they tell us is wrong.
If you forward a copy of the other invoice you had to repair the washer and dryer we will review.Sincerely

Feb 24, 2025
I REJECT the business (Appliance Man) (*** ****** - tech) response.
I have the rept for $194.70 from Aug 21, 2024. (For which - I paid cash) for service call for my MAYTAG washer & Whirlpool dryer. *** did something at the base of my washer (the drum) He gave it a hard jerk - which I think broke the tub sea!!
My washer was not leaking any water (on the floor!) My washer squealed durng the SPIN CYCLE!! ( I was afraid it would do something to the motor!!) So - I didn't use my was machine. (I went to the laundry mat) & tub seal was not broken prior to Aug 2125 2024.
Also - I knew the heat element was bad on my dryer. (Because it didn't heat anymore!)
He DID, however - test for that - He had brought the heat element (that day) but he told me he had to get another part to install it!! WHATTT??? (which I thought was odd)
I cancelled any further appmt w/*** at appliance Man. * I call Whirlpool & I orfered the heat element from Whirlpool (out of Michigan) & it came the next day!!
I called another repair tech at another company. He fixed it ALL!! (Reasonable, I might add!)
**** *******
*He got all need parts!! *** said parts weren't available!!
* I tried to call ***, the owner of Appliance Man (to complaint) He never called me back & **** (the gal who made the appointment) said "sorry you feel that way"
I really believe this company makes more money on service calls!! With no interest in actually working to fix them! (*** did "test the Heat element)
I think *** broke the tub seal! (when he torked the base of the drum)
I want half the fee - BACK that's all...he was here 10 minutes.

The technician arrived without uttering a single word. He simply walked into my residence and headed straight to the kitchen. I had to initiate communication as he seemed content not to speak to me at all. My attempts to engage him only netted one-word answers. Within the first 3 minutes, I hit the start cycle on the dishwasher and miraculously, it started a cycle, something it hadn't done in 8 months. The technician said there might be a shortage in the panel. I asked if he was going to perform any diagnostics to determine the exact issue? The technician replied that there wasn't much he could do because it was working. The technician did not conduct any diagnostics nor did he open the dishwasher at any point. He then said that I could replace a part for $600 which made no sense as he NEVER inspected the dishwasher to even diagnose the issue. Even though the dishwasher worked within 3 minutes of his visit, the technician proceeded to write his report on his laptop to burn up 30 minutes to justify the $129 + tax service fee. After the cycle ran for 10 minutes, I suggested I stop it to start a new one just to see if an issue would arise with the start of a new cycle. The technician wasn't going to stay to see if the new cycle proved successful. I had to say, "hey I just paid $150, don't you think it makes sense to at least stay to see if the dishwasher continues to work?" He stayed but said that he couldn't stay long as he would hate to charge me for an additional 30 minutes.
I called customer service and spoke to one representative who proceeded to invalidate everything I said and supported the technician's bogus report detailing how he ran imaginary diagnostics. I called back and spoke to another representative who also supported the technician's bogus report. I don't mind paying for a diagnostic fee, but the technician did not diagnose anything! A reputable company would not have charged the full fee since no service was rendered.Business Response

This is Appliance Man, *** has been a technician for a long time and he can diagnose many appliances based on his experience. We do agree that *** needs to communicate better with customers, he is a man of few words, but he is a good technician. Our prices are quoted when taking the service request. The $129.95 is for the trip charge and the first 30 minutes of diagnose.
If the customer would like us to send another technician, or the same tech to confirm diagnoses, we would send someone back out within 30days at no charge.
(I do show responding to this note on 11/4/24)

I am rejecting this response because: Yes, an initial visit fee is standard practice for any business but to earn that fee, the company is supposed to render a service. In this case, *** did not actually diagnose the issue. He did not render any services. He did not perform any diagnostics to understand the issue, instead he quoted me $600 to replace the board. This conversation occurred within the first 5-10 minutes of ***'s arrival, and then he proceeded to use the rest of the time (20 minutes) entering notes and feigning ignorance.
After this disastrous experience, I found an honest, reputable company that does not swindle their customers. The new company came out and was able to diagnose the issue very quickly. The technician determined that it was not a $600 board replacement issue but that the dishwasher software needed to be updated. He performed the update and within 10 minutes, the issue was fixed. And because he works for a reputable company that puts customers over profits, he only charged me the visit fee of $115, which I happily paid because he rendered a service. Imagine if I were an unsuspecting customer who fully trusted *** and paid $600 for his uninformed and incorrect recommendation.
The company has not addressed my concerns about dishonest and predatory business practices. It would seem that if *** is the veteran you claim, he would have suggested that outdated software could be a potential issue. The new company's tech was in his mid-twenties with less experience that *** supposedly has, and he was able to accurately and efficiently diagnose the problem within minutes.

Had conctrator out to repair a washing machine. They replaced the mother board and the machine still didnt work. They came back out and said there was nothing wrong. They didnt check to see if the clothes had been through a spin cycle. After coming a second time they said the samething and the clothes are still wet and the machine still won't go through the spin cycle. They called GE and then told me there isnt anything wrong with the machine. They will not check the clothes after they run the machine, and when you show them the clothes are still wet they told me there is nothing wrong. We have a home warranty company IGS that has paid $400 and we have paid $203 on top of that. The warranty company can no longer help becasue they have spent all money allotted.Business Response

11/6 APPLIANCE MAN WENT TO THE HOME FOR A GE WASHER THAT WAS NOT AGITTING OR SPINNING, WE TESTED THE MACHINE AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY
11/21 APPLIANCE WENT HOME AGAIN FOR THE GE WASHER NOT SPINNING ON WASH CYCLE, BUT WILL SPIN WHEN SET TO SPIN, OUR TECH INTERMITENT AND WASHER WOULD NEED MAIN BOARD, REPLACED MAIN BOARD
11/28 CUSTOMER SAID SAME ISSUE, WILL NOT SPIN ON WASH CYCLE, OUR TECH CONTACTED GE AND RAN ALL TESTS OF THE MACHINE WITH THEM AND WE FOUND NO ISSUES. WE FOUND ONE ERROR CODE RELATING TO THE DRAINING ALGORITHEM BUT IT APPEARS TO BE AN OLD CODE. BOTH GE AND THE TECH HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPRODUCE ANY ERROR OR ISSUE IN SERVICE MODE AND FIND THIS UNIT TO BE IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER.
WE HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THIS CUSTOMER THAT THERE IS STILL AND ISSUE SINCE OUR VISIT 11/28/23

I am rejecting this response because: when the tech was there, and ran the washer he saw that the clothes came out of the drain and spin cycle soak'n wet. He told us the problem was fixed and left. Once I called him on the phone he confirmed the problem was fixed and said his office told him there was nothing more they could do becasue GE said there wasnt a problem.

I called Applianceman Service because my refrigerator was making a terrible noise and shutting on and off. There was a lot of frost in the freezer and an odd smell. A technician came to look at the refrigerator on Friday, February 3. All of the concerns were explained to the technician, but he did not diagnose anything because "it wasn't making the noise" when he was there. He only looked at my ice and water dispenser panel on the front of my refrigerator. He changed the water filter but installed it incorrectly, causing water going through the filter to spray all over the interior of my refrigerator.
There was so much water it pooled on the shelves and bottom of my refrigerator. I had to remove everything from my refrigerator, including the bins, to empty water and dry everything. When I complained to the customer service manager, the only thing she offered was another service call.

We are sorry the customer did not have a good experience, we pride ourselves in trying to give excellent customer service. If customers have a problem with a repair we will send a technician back at no charge to make it right. This customer would not allow us to come back out, the $236.45, includes the water filter she purchased from us $90, the Trip Charge $129.95 (which is guarantee for 30 days, we will come out at no charge)
If there was a water issue, we probably would have came back the same day. If you would like us to come back out and confirm if there is a control board issue, we will at no charge, an also give you a discount on parts and labor if installing a part.
After listening to our recordings, you were upset that we did not move the refrigerator to check behind for a noise issue. We would not normally move the refrigerator if we do not need to, most of the time the technicians can diagnose from the front without moving and risking damage to the kitchen or floor. On the original visit we did not hear any noises, and the refrigerator was working.
Please let us know if you would like us to come back out. ###-###-####. Thank youCustomer Answer

the business does not offer me anything other than coming out again for free. I stated in my phone call to them as well as my BBB complaint that I do not want to do business with this company again and certainly do not want them in my home. There is an assumption that the trip charge will result in a technician diagnosing the issue, and that did not happen. The cost of the water filter was nearly double that of the retail cost. and it was installed incorrectly. I've attached some of the photos of what my refrigerator looked like after the technician incorrectly installed the filter.
