1 starRun away. There a plenty of other options for a company providing Self Directed IRA. I have had numerous problems with their service, especially errors on their part with recording fund distributions from my investments. Here is just the latest example:
I have an relatively small value "asset" correctly classified as an 'unsecured loan". The borrower makes electronic (ACH) payments, part of which are meant to be allocated as interest and part as payment on the loan principal. Very straightforward. But apparently they have no way recording the payments in that manner ---continually allocating all of the payments by the borrower as "interest". I was told that they are "working" on that problem and the way to deal with the problem was to submit a "Direction of Deposit Form" in advance specifying the breakdown of interest and principal, and the expected date of the ACH payment. A royal pain. I have done exactly that, every month, but apparently the forms have been completely ignored and for 6 straight months now all of the borrowers payments have been recorded as 100% allocated to as interest. The borrower, as you can imagine is not happy, and I have no explanation other than to tell them "I am working on it" . This involves simple payments on a loan to a friend so I can only imagine what kind problems I would have with any more complicated real estate or other more complicated investments.Review fromRobert H

Unfortunately, there is not an option for zero stars. NEVER PUT YOUR MONEY WITH THIS COMPANY! Opening the account was easy, trying to get your money back next to impossible. This is obviously their business plan not just incompetence. Some of the worst customer service, constantly getting the runaround. Impossible to speak with a supervisor. Really hard to have confidence in a company when you have to jump through hoops and navigate roadblocks to try to get your money back. it definitely leaves you with a lack of trust.

1 starDishonest, Lying, Cheating, Stealing Company. When I was speaking with the agent, I asked many times, "Is there a fee? What is your Cost". He kept telling me there was NO cost to purchasing gold / silver from them. He said "They buy it at a low and sell it at a high which is how they make their money. However, when I set up the account online, it will show a lesser amount than what I paid as a stated value." So I transferred my IRA and purchased a gold / silver IRS for $42678.36. I got the receipt. I then convinced my husband to do the same, only his amount was $85,000. After it was completed and the gold / silver was shipped to the depository where gold is kept, I got my account set up. To my surprise, the amount that showed up was $24175.17 on my account and $57787.53 on my husbands account. THEY TOOK $18503.19 OF MY MONEY FOR FEES / COST WHICH HE STATED THERE WAS NO COST TO ME. THEY TOOK $2721.47 FROM MY HUSBAND WHICH THEY STATED WAS NO COST TO MY HUSBAND. THEY STOLE A TOTAL OF $45715.66 FROM US. DO NOT BUY GOLD / SILVER FROM THIS COMPANY. I WANT MY MONEY RETURNED TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Review fromJune S

I contacted Equity regarding an email I received and did not understand what it was about. I knew it was about taxes but didn't quite understand what I was supposed to do if anything. I spoke with a lady who was so polite and professional. She assured me it was just a reminder that they would be be sending out their tax forms as they do every year. I was grateful that she did NOT have an attitude for the reason I called. She was NOT being a "Karen". She assured me that they receive calls from customers asking the same question, which made me feel better that I wasn't the only customer being clueless :)! I enjoy doing business with Equity Trust! They are professional and knowledgeable. If they do not know the answer they will transfer you to someone who does. I appreciate and grateful for Equity Trust! My experience with this company and staff was horrible.
I opened Roth IRA account with this company since 2016. First of all, they charged me the annual fee for 2015, for the year I did not even have account with them. Then they credited back after I called and verified why there was a deduction to my cash account in 2016.
Every year, I extented my promisory note for the loan which I managed. They charged annual fee which is not cheap. But they did not do what they were supposed to do.
I updated the asset amount every time I extended my promissory note to my borrower. I filled their form as requested, emailed to them. They never updated my asset amount to reflect the correct value.
Every year, I called and asked them to fix it. I spoke to different people who said totally different things regarding why the amout of my asset did not get reflected correctly.
Some people said I needed to get my asset evaluated by the third party. Others said "No, you don't need to do that. We will fix it for you. It's a simle cash account."
But nothing was fixed. After making multiple phone calls, they finally fixed the asset amount in 2017.
Since 2017, nothing has been updated even though I updated my note every 6 months or 1 year based on the term of the loan.
By the end of 2024, we were both tired with this company and their service, we decided to roll over to Vanguard and closed account.
Their staff is not trained properly. Some are rude over the phone. Some are ignorant and don't know what they do.
All they do is just to charge annual fees and don't do any type of services, don't even at least train their staff so people know how to help customers.
Do not waste your money. Find other company to work with your asset.Equity Trust Company
