In 2022-2024. I went to Central State University in Wilberforce Ohio. During that time, I was part of the free on-line college program that paid my tuition. The union that I am a part of is: ************* Cincinnati Public Schools. In the spring of 2023, the program ended and I was not made aware of the change that my tuition would no longer be covered. Central State University continued to allow me to enroll and take classes. My Academic Advisor enrolled me in these classes, I did not enroll in them myself. After Spring of 2023, I was not made aware that I would be charged tuition to take future classes. The university did not give me any documentation to sign that stated that I would be bound or held liable for the tuition in the amount of the $3,070.00, they say I owe. Central State University stated that they sent me numerous emails, that entailed about the free on-line program ending, because they say that is the only most common way they communicate. I did not receive these emails. I have gone through all of my emails from them in 2023 and not one of them was about the ending of the free program. I feel that I am not liable for this balance of $3,070.00, because I did not sign any document that would hold me responsible for that balance. I did not agree to it. Upon doing further research, I have come to find out that it is a common practice for Central State University to let students unbeknownst to them, rack up tuition charges in the amount of $3000.00. On 07/13/2024. I sent them an email through the university portal asking for documented proof of my signature where I signed in agreement to these tuition charges. Their response did not address my concerns. Their response email, directed me to my ledger. Not the signed documentation I asked for, that proves I own the $3,070.00. The solution I want is for them to cancel or dismiss the charges in the amount of $3,070.00, under false pretense and no legal ground.Initial Complaint

Email dated 6-6-2023 shows I should only be paying $150 per semester. My bill is $1,150 for the summer term. This morning, 8-29-2023 I was informed that even though my FAFSA shows I am Pell grant eligible, due to the number of credit hours I was enrolled in. This is false, as I was enrolled in 8 credit hours as my advisor told me I couldn't take more than 9 credit hours in the summer term. I subsequently dropped a class, bringing me down to 5 credit hours. At no time was I ever informed that this action would make me ineligible for a Pell grant. As a matter of fact I emailed my advisor on 6-7-2023 asking how to go about dropping a class and never even received a response from her. I had to make numerous inquires to figure out how to even drop a class.Initial Complaint

I applied back in April under the Union College Benefit. I been run around ever since. I am still not admitted, and Fall is just around the corner. I have sent in my transcripts and had two letters of non-attendance sent and completed every checklist item. Everything should be done. On June 29/2023 I received an email stating my file was waiting to be assigned to an online team member and it should be 4-21 days and not to call. At that time my dashboard was showing completed, save for one item the Application Document Checklist, which has shown pending for some time. Yesterday, July 29/2023 I received the same email stating that NOW my file was waiting to be assigned. Same story, but now it is showing that it is waiting for transcripts from two universities that I never attended, University of Arizona and Southern Utah University. A month ago, it showed them not pending, I presumed because the certificates of non-attendance were completed. I may add I also got a request for a letter of reference for an MBA which is not what I am trying to complete. I am trying to complete a Bachelors in Criminal Justice. I feel at this point I keep getting the run around. I would like someone to tell me what is going on? Why do I have to resend the same information over and over again, or have more items magically appear, disappear and then reappear once again on some checklist which seems to be a moving target designed to make sure people don't attend. Every time I try to reach out for clarity, I get no response, just another email telling me to wait.Customer Answer

I applied to the school back at the end of April/early May. I provided all necessary paperwork they required, though some school transcripts are from defunct colleges. The school maintains ZERO communication with the prospective students. Any communication, if you're lucky enough to receive any, they send out is repetitious. I still have not received a decision on my application or received any updates regarding my application and it has been going on 3 months now.Customer Answer

Good afternoon,Yes! I finally heard from the company (Central State University) and in fact, finally got accepted into the program. I was told that they have received a tremendous amount of applications and had trouble responding in a timely manner to all applicants.******* **********Initial Complaint

My complaint against Central State University has to do with the lack of concern from the staff in the enrollment, registrar, and financial aid office. I've had ongoing issues with information getting loss and phone calls and emails not being returned within the 3 day period as promised. I am a Union benefits student and it seems the issue with Union Benefit students are all the exact same and that is no one cares enough about our MANY issues enough or care enough about the schools name to try to get anything corrected. My major was changed without my knowledge during the fall term and I've been trying to get corrected since the beginning of August which has not been corrected. My FAFSA information has been corrected and resubmitted several times yet I'm still told my FASFA info isn't on file. The DIRECTOR of financial contact me the last of August and there's been no further contact. You can NEVER speak directly with anyone because all calls are routed to the One Stop office who says "someone will contact you within 3 days" and your never contacted. I've even sent an email to the President of the University only to receive a response saying my email will be forwarded to someone else who will contact me and you guessed it.... I haven't been contacted as of yet and this email was sent over a week ago. I left a message for the Vice President of Student Affairs who just started with Central State May of 2022 and I'm quite sure like myself he had no idea the monster he signed up for. My entire spirit has been crushed by the Lack of Concern this institution is showing it's students and the merry go round you have to endure to get someone to take the leadership role and try to get things corrected. I hate to say it because I take pride in my HBCU's HOWEVER my experience with Central State Universal (besides my instructors and classes) has been nothing short of a nightmare. This is a GUT PUNCH to all HBCU's .Initial Complaint

I have submitted my official transcripts to Central State University on 03/07/22 from ******** Community College and from ******* ******* Community College on 06/07/22. I have been passed around constantly with no resolution from Central University that they have located my transcript and there have been 3 cases filed to try to locate my transcript. I was told by the admission team that I would be contacted back I still have not gotten a call back or any status update! I submitted my transcript to the union ***** and I have sent them emails that I have sent my transcript, but no matter how many times I emailed them, I CANNOT GET A RESPONSE! I tried to call them but they always have over 500 people on hold, and when I request a call back, I never get a call back! I keep getting emails from Central State university asking if I have submitted everything which is irritating since I have been been contacting them about it constantly! I called again today about the two cases that was filed and one that was escalated and Central State University CLOSED my two cases because I haven't submitted my transcripts and the escalation case a previous rep filed on 07/11/22 submitted a case about accessing the student portal and not about my missing transcript!Initial Complaint

I submitted an inquiry on 03/02/2022, to attend Central State University, utilizing free college benefits through my employer. I received an e-mail from Ms. ****** **** on 03/03/2022, welcoming me to the program and requesting transcripts. I submitted transcript requests to the institutions that apply, and all but (1) is showing applied to my application for admission. The school in question, is **** ****** ***** **********. I sent the original request on 05/23/2022(order #*********). I sent a second request via Federal Express at my expense(36.00), on 06/06/2022. It was shown delivered on 06/10/2022 at 1:50 pm. The item was accepted and signed for by *. ****** on this date. I have sent at minimum, 4 e-mails to Mail ****. I have also copied the admissions e-mail address, the union benefits e-mail address, and Ms. ******** *******. Ms. **** has not at any point, provided me a status update on this transcript. At the time this complaint was filed, Ms. **** directed me to contact Ms. **** ********* and Mr. ****** **********. I might add at that time, she STILL did not provide a status update. I sent a message via e-mail to Ms. *********, copied Mr. **********, and copied Central State admissions department, and the union benefits e-mail address.
