1 starI had a reptile who was sick and came here. The vet wouldn’t even come in and talk to me in person. They told me it would only cost $190. I ended up leaving with a bill of over 300. This is the third pet I have had come here that did not end up alive. They give you a plan saying they’ll do all these tests, but they never actually do anything. This place is a scam. Do not go here.Review fromMichael B

1 starLooking at the reviews below there is a common theme. Get your pet in the building then start testing and procedures until the owner reaches a limit. My wife described the process from the get go as a used car sales approach to veterinary care.
We have a ridgeback. Chronic cough and was being evaluated by a different vet for cushings. Developed severe shortness of breath and took to Med Vet Carmel.
CXR showed pneumothorax. Air removed and our dog improved. Vets appropriately recommended a CT Chest and surgery. CT chest was consistent with metastatic cancer. Taken to surgery to biopsy and repair air leak. Post-op had a chest tube placed.
Entire care to this point excellent. Then comes the excess testing. Biopsy takes days to come back So dog has to stay as lung still leaking. Chest tube in is working but they need a different chest tube to send home. Someone wants to know what the source of the incurable cancer is so a CT of the abdomen and pelvis ordered. When you have a CT chest with pulmonary nodules and on biopsy they appear to be cancer, pray tell why do we need a ct scan of the abdomen and pelvis to find out exactly where the primary is.
Meanwhile, dog is away from family, surrounded by strangers and dying. I am a seasoned physician who cares for cancer patients with tubes all the time. Per Medvet, they need to take him back to surgery with the affiliated pain and suffering to put in a different type of tube so he die at home surrounded by loved ones in a few days instead of a few hours.
Long and short on the Carmel MedVet. Great pet interacting staff. Money hungry administrators.
More to follow as we see if they will release atticus with the tube or whether they send him home to spend hours instead of days with the family before he has to be made comfortable and we get the final bill for this nightmare.Review fromPat H

1 starThis review is for MedVet Cleveland West.
Close to five years ago on advise of our family vet, I took my dog (clinical suspicion of brain tumor), to MedVet CLE West for treatment. Our dog was attended to by a internal medicine vet. Pup was rx'd very heavy medications of various kinds to keep seizures at bay. During these visits unknown to me, I just found out 2.26.24, due to a comment (?) I'd made during a visit to this internist, she made it a point to "red-flag"/black-list me permanently. Whatever this comment was? Fast forward to 2.26.24. A dear rescue cat is gravely ill. I called on 2.8.24 to book a 2nd opinion appt. for next available of 2.27.24. Counting down weeks, days, hours. Never receiving confirmation & becoming concerned, I phoned MedVet CLE West inquiring about our appt., only to be told no appt. showed in their system. Receptionist put me on hold, returned (on instructions from someone else, no doubt), pretended to have found the scheduled appt. "after all." To get me off the phone. My call triggered a call from a female from the administrative offices, telling me due to some "interaction with the internist" all those years ago, I was permanently banned "from any services for any and all pets" at MedVet CLE West. I was mortified & aghast the internist took it upon herself to engage in a deep-seated vengeful act such as this. Further, the female from the administrative office was cold, callous, did not apologize that had I not followed up on my own (less than 24 hours before the booked appt.), I would have driven all that way only to be turned away with my dear gravely ill cat in tow. This is a warning. This business keeps a red-flag list only they know about. Deceitful and cruel practices black-balling customers. The callous administrative female informed me "this practice is put in place 'rarely'. They do it so well it is very hard to believe it is a rarity. That this practice happens there in secret and behind the scenes at all is an abomination.Review fromSam W

1 starZero stars is more like it. You take people worried about their animals and make it worse.
We'll charge you hundreds to walk in the door, then won't update you. When your pet is still being held after 6 hours because they haven't been seen then something is very wrong
Taking out loans to pay ridiculous costs when the service is **** poor.
The fact that they're allowed to continue is criminal, I don't wanna know how many animals are euthanized because of their prices
Shame, absolute shameReview fromElizabeth M

1 star10/10/23 I brought my rabbit in at 4pm and they did x-rays said they THINK it is stasis so they need to do bloodwork to make sure it is not an obstruction. My rabbit sat in the back hunched over in pain possibly requiring emergency surgery for an additional 6 hours before they did bloodwork. confirmed a treatment plan at 10:30pm to administer medication for GI stasis. at 12:30am they finally administered her the medication. 1:30am they finally brought her out and went over the aftercare instructions but the tech who went over them couldn't answer any of my questions and questioned the written after care instructions. I mentioned several times that my rabbit looked HORRIBLE and way worse than when she came in. They just shrugged their shoulders. When I finally got home around 4 am I let her settle in and "let the medication work" as I was directed by the tech who gave me the after care I called them back at 5:30am and asked again to clarify if I should start feeding critical care because she was still not eating. They said to wait and take her to the local vet in the morning. I expressed concern that she was hunched up in pain and had her nose resting on the ground and was told "well that's basically how she was the entire time she was here". Long story short; she died. I called and asked them for a refund since they did not treat her in an acceptable time frame and their verbal after care instructions were confusing and incorrect. They refused and told me that they can't confirm any of the conversations of the wrong information given and that she probably would have still died even if they did start treating her stasis 9 hours sooner. They refuse to admit that they did not treat her in time within a critical time frame and miscommunicated after care instructions and follow up calls. This level of care and lack of responsibility from the after hours care team is abhorrent and given the conversation I had, I doubt that they will implement any kind of changes.Review fromElijah A

I called before I went there and asked a question regarding to the process for my dog. I told them I would be on my way very soon. I arrived at the facility at quarter till 2:00 PM. Upon getting there a veterinary assistant, "took my dogs vitals" but upon bringing my dog back, informed me that she didn't even bother looking at what I had brought my dog there for in the first place and that she couldn't because she is not a vet and currently no vet was at the facility.
The place is called MedVet. It's a medical emergency place for dogs That's open 24/7. That's an Oxymoron in and of itself. Like I said earlier, we talked on the phone and I had told them I was on my way. I should have been told at that time that no vets for available at that moment so I could have made an informed decision and taken my dog somewhere he could have received proper care.
Going on seven hours later as I type this, I'm still sitting in the lobby of MedVet. My dog's scar has reopened, bled all over the floor. They put a band aid on it up and sent him right back out to me and said they'd get it to it later. My dog has not used the bathroom because I'm scared of his bleeding getting worse. He needs to take his medication for his wound with his food and that's at home. My other dog is at home starving and hopefully hasn't used the bathroom in his crate. A multitude of people have come and gone while I remain.
When I brought this to the attention of the person at the front desk, they barley would look over their monitors at me and pretty much ignored me. I was told someone would be out to discuss my problem with me. To the surprise of no one, that has not happened.*MedVet Columbus

1 starIf at all possible, do NOT buy your pet's medication at MedVet. For anti-nausea medication, MedVet charged me $109. 39 for four pills. The exact same medication at ***** is $46.99. When I complained about the over-charge, I was told that MedVet always suggests buying medication elsewhere to the client. MedVet did NOT do this for me. I paid twice and much as I should have for two medications. MedVet has no explanation for its price gouging.Review fromTasha S

1 starOn March 8, 2023, I took my dog to MedVet Columbus for a follow up appointment for cardiology. My dog was previously diagnosed with heart failure. However, energy levels were high with my dog, and I had no indication that he was “near death.” During the appointment, it was discovered that he had some excessive fluid in his belly, as well as some indication that he had some additional progression of his heart disease. His medication was changed quite a bit during this appointment. It was also discovered that his blood pressure was low on this appointment., but again, I was not advised that me dog was in crisis. During this appointment, his medication was changed to include two media actions that actually can lower blood pressure. Unfortunately, I believe these medication changes were a factor in my dog passing two days after his cardiology appointment. My dog passed away on March 10, 2023. He passed away very suddenly approximately 30 minutes after I gave him a dose of torsemide. I think it is unreasonable for vetmed to accept 1003.38 for medications and a plan of care that I believe contributed to my pet’s death. I think this should be refunded. I would also like my pet’s cremation charges that I paid at a different permed to be refunded to me(350). Unfortunately, so was scheduled for a follow up appointment this week after all the medication changes. I left a voicemail the day after my dog passed away to cancel. Nobody bothered to call or offer condolences. Very disappointed with the outcome of care here.*Review fromYvonne T

1 starStay clear of this place I took my JRT here for cataract surgery the anesthesia machine malfunctioned causing my dog to die although they brought him back they had to abort the surgery on the right eye to save him
Afterwards they sent me to medvet Columbus to try to save the eye after months of 6 medications in his right eye he ultimately had to have his eye removed and he died 9 months later medvet did not charge me for the botched surgery but I lost my dear boy way too early*Review fromLORETTA T.

So they advertise a new "Urgent Care" that started in January 2023. Took my dog in for something on their qualifying list for Urgent Care. I spent 6 hours there and $438.00 only to get home and find out that my emailed receipt showed I was charged an Emergency fee. I called and asked about it because 2 different times while in the waiting room I asked and made it plain and clear that I was there for Urgent Care. I also called ahead of time to ask the fee to be seen. They told me it would have to be passed on to a supervisor and I would get a call back. No call came so I called back the next day because I had still not heard from the vet about my dogs urine culture and they told me if the culture had to be sent out that the lab only held the urine for 2 days. They told me they would send the Doctor an email with my concerns. First off they were the Doctor's concern as she said she may need to change the meds pending results and it may need to be sent off. I asked again about my charges while I was on the phone with them and the lady told me the same thing the last lady told me and it's that the Doctor's decide if you are taken in under Urgent Care or Emergency Care and I was seen for Emergency Care. I never authorized that.I told them Urgent care when I first checked in and again about 2 hours into sitting there. This is false advertisement and I plan to file a claim. I feel like this Urgent Care is just to lure people in and take advantage of them. I have since started a post on Social Media and found out that I am not the only person this has happened to, but I will be the person to do something about it. I currently have 4 dogs under their care 1 in Cardiology, 1 in Ophthalmology and 2 in Oncology one of which is going in for surgery in 3 week unless I move him to another Hospital for care. I love Med Vet and the care they have given my dog, but this is just wrong on so many levels to advertise something you are not providing. Still have no urine results either.MedVet Columbus
