I am a LegalShield member. My phone number on the account is ************. I have tried calling to get my address changed. I no longer reside at ****************************************************************************. When calling, I have been left on hold for long periods of time. This means my account is not being updated appropriately and it is being neglected by LegalShield. I am requesting they simply update my account according to the address on this complaint. Afterward, I will be satisfied. I have attached my lease. This is enough evidence for them to correct their error. I have not utilized other services and the few times I have tried to use simplistic services such as legal advice I am either not helped or in this most recent case given bad advice. I was informed my landlord tenant issue was “A clear case of misrepresentation” and that “I would be happy to represent you”. Now that this is a legal matter this same attorney said there is no recourse. I am now out thousands of dollars in moving expenses and $900 for a deposit. This same law firm, Ross & Matthews also had been asked to contact me in the past for an urgent matter and I was not contacted for 3 days forcing me to seek legal advice elsewhere. I am now going to seek legal help for this same landlord tenant issue from a qualified attorney whom will charge me by the hour and I may be mentioning this experience in the proceedings. If Legal Shield cannot provide accurate legal advice from qualified attorney’s they should not misrepresent themselves as a valid legal service. To whoom it may concern,
Someone named ***** called me three times from a blocked number. My mobile phone settings, like most, go straight to voicemail.
I attempted to return the call twice a day for five days this week, but each one left me no option to leave a message and said the person was on the other line, in a meeting, or closed.
I expected this amount of professionalism after dealing with their "Attorneys." Legal Shield and its law office have cost me thousands of dollars with incorrect and conflicting legal advice. I have had this service for roughly two years, paid over $400, and received no services.
Legal Shield has not given me anyone to contact by phone, email, or refunded me. Legal Shield appears to be a bait and switch or false advertising.
I would appreciate any assistance you could provide.

I joined the legal shield membership to gain attorney advice. I was told if I was not satisfied, I would receive a full refund for the sign up fee and months paid. I started my membership on April 27, 2022... was charged $29.95 for 3 months plus the sign up fee. The first call to the law firm assigned to me was extremely unprofessional, I was verbally assaulted by the attorney. I asked to have that attorney blocked and still tried to seek service through my membership. The law firm did not give advice I was seeking, continually hung up abruptly, and gave me misguided advice on multiple occasions that caused damage to my legal case. When I tried to get help to resolve the issue, I was led in circles for 2 weeks. I asked to terminate my membership and a refund. It was told to me a refund was issued on the 14th of July, 2022, and to check back with my bank. They told me the error was the fault of my bank. I went to my bank and they researched the matter. There was no trace of a refund from that company. I called the company back. They sent an email that day stating a refund has been issued. It has not. I sent letter by mail carrier, a fax, an email, and multiple calls to customer service requesting resolution and transaction information of refund. The company is extremely rude, they do not provide the service you are paying for and have lied about the refund I was promised upon signing. I am seeking the entire amount of my 3 month membership and the initial sign up fee.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:This is in response to LegalShield's BBB response. I was courted by a representative a month before I finalized my decision to purchase their services. I was GUARANTEED by a customer service agent that I would be reimbursed if I was not completely happy with the service. LegalShield has also stated in the response letter that they require communication with customer service if any discrepancies arise and that I did not do that. My first call to utilize LegalShield partner, *********************** law firm, was on the 19th of May, 2022.THE VERY FIRST CALLwas so atrocious and mind bendingly abhorrent, I IMMEDIATELY called the LegalShield customer service to report it, as well as ******* Web law firm to make a formal complaint against the attorney. I was so mortified by the disrespect I received, I also called THE ***** BAR the same exact day, as listed in the screenshot of my call log that I am attaching to this response. I requested that the offending attorney be blocked from further contact with me. The response from LegalShield also states that they do not issue refunds, but proceeded to allege that they issued a refund on the 14th of July, 2022 for an arbitrary amount of $29.95 to my bank account. In my termination letter posted on July 13, 2021, I requested the FULL amounts withdrawn from my account PLUS the signup fee that **************, the sales rep that signed me up, said was required and refundable if service was not satisfactory. I went to the bank and asked my branch manager to apply a deep search to track the refund. NONE WAS ISSUED. LegalShield was called, and an agent stated that they used a card with a different expiration date that belonged to a card I did not have on file with LegalShield.... HOW? How was that possible that they would have access to a card I never used to purchase their service with? I have attached the last withdrawal from LegalShield, dated on the 3oth of June, 2022.LegalShield requested a total printout of my bank transactions, which is HIGHLY ILLEGAL and inappropriate. My bank branch manager has sent communication on my behalf to LegalShield stating that a deposit was never issued and also that the debit card used had the wrong expiration date that I never gave LegalShield. LegalShield agrees an attempt to refund an amount of $29.95 was made but that the expiration of the debit card was incorrect. I believe they intentionally changed the expiration date on my debit card to avoid actual payment. Attached is the guarantee statement from their website. Also included is a redacted bank statement showing that a refund was not issued and also since communication with my branch manager with LegalShield to rectify the issue, no further communication has taken place. I am requesting THE FULL amount of monies withdrawn. Three months of fees for $29.95 PLUS the sign-up fee of $39.99.
I am attaching physical proof that the response LegalShield has supplied in their BBB answer is completely false, full of intentional lies, and borders on criminal behavior. I believe they are involved in illegal practices to obtain consumer's private information and also dissuade them from obtaining appropriate legal assistance. It was told to me through counsel attached to ***********************,that they have obligations to companies that obtain their services to serve that clients interest first and that it is possible that conflicts of interest will arise if opposing customers obtain their legal counsel. I believe they are using this to put consumers in compromising incidences without them knowing. If I do not get a proper monetary resolve regarding monies owed, I will take action to report this companys practice to The State Bar, The Attorney General,as well as gather information to submit to Senate Representatives if necessary. This is an assault on the intelligence of The American Consumer as well as the economy. The fashion in which I was treated, insulted, and also how the company obtained private information BEFORE I ever purchased the LegalShield product is completely abominable and invasive.
I just wanted the refund promised before my decision to acquire their service. The treatment, audacity, and blatant lies are disappointing, disrespectful, and truly disgusting.
I am hoping the BBB will reconsider their A+ rating of LegalShield. The high grade does not reflect the service this company provides as well as the many dire complaints from customers regarding theft, neglect, and repeated poor customer service.
In this response are submitted photos of :
- Call history of the amount of courting the sales rep initiated and that I was made CERTAIN by the associate that a refund could be issued. That is what determined my purchase.
- Call history of the steps taken to ensure the initial incident was rectified. Call log shows placements to: LegalShield ***************** *********************** Law firm, as well as The State Bar to report the offending attorney on May 19, 2022.
- A redacted bank statement from the time LegalShield stated a refund was issued to present day (August 4, 2022). No transaction is present...showing the claim made by LegalShield is false.
- Correspondence with my bank branch manager stating that the refund transaction was not found in a deep search of my bank transactions.
- Proof of statement submission from my bank to the LegalShield accounting department regarding this matter.
I appreciate any and all help that is allotted through the diligence of BBB.

I am rejecting this response because:LegalShield has yet to refund ANY amount. The card I submitted was correct. The card they used to issue a refund was purposely incorrect. Once I receive a refund for the $29.95 initially proposed by LegalShield, I will reconsider my request. It was based on false representation of their product. Also, I had no intention of cancelling the product. The vile treatment from the Law Firm representing Legal Shield made it impossible to sustain membership. The letter sent to BBB on behalf of LegalShield was full of intentional lies and falsities to strengthen their criminal approach in business. As a prepaid legal (legal shield) member since 2002, this particular law firm is a real waste of the practicality of the legal shield resources. This law firm weaseled their way out of the prepaid legal obligation to represent me in my civil case, because I turned it into them a few days late... There was only one bright spot was Clarissa ****, she actually helped me, she gets 4.5 stars for doing all she could to help me... The whole legal process was 490 days and I had to represent myself in a case that this Lawfirm wanted $3,000 to represent me on a $2143 case and I lost on a technicality that a skilled practitioner of the law would have been able to win. So boo to this law firm. They left me hanging.Business Response

I received legal paperwork informing me that I had been sued for custody of my oldest son in the mail on 2/4/2022. A hearing date of 2/17/2022 had been assigned. The complaint contained many lies and errors, most concerning a statement that there was no current custody agreement in place. The current custody agreement only granted the biological father supervised visitation for 2 hours every other week, and the father was now stating that he was seeking primary custody. This legal error alone could have resulted in a new temporary custody agreement being entered at the 2/17/2022 hearing granting his father 50/50 or primary custody.I called my LegalShield provider immediately on 2/4/2022 @ ****, to which a lawyer immediately returned my call (****). She advised that we needed a referral to an outside law group, and I requested that be completed immediately. As requested, I e-mailed her the legal documents on 2/4/2022 @ ****, and received a response that my e-mail had been received @ ****. In the evening on 2/9/2022 no referral had occurred, and I was beginning to get worried as the hearing was the following week, so I inquired and was informed the lawyer completed the referral paperwork. Being concerned that I was at risk of losing my son, I called all the legal offices in my area. No one had availably to take my case. On 2/10/2022, I finally got an e-mail back from a paralegal that stated she was moving to a new office and one of the Lawyers had availability at that office in ********, **. She scheduled me for a consultation for 2/14/2022 @ ****. At this time, I still hadnt heard back about my referral. I retained a lawyer to represent me and asked if they were members of legalshield, which they were not. To date I have expensed $13,875 on legal fees. So, either legal shield has breached their contract with my family or is fraudulently misrepresenting their service by misleading subscribers on the time required for their services to be performed.Business Response

Please take note of the fact that PPLSI failed to even address the issues surrounding my complaint. They simply stated the facts of the case, which are in dispute. I have a timestamped copy of the member **** of rights that were in place on 2/10/2022 @ ****. Time sensitive need is defined as "a legal matter requiring immediate review due to a deadline, hearing date or required response". I had a hearing date assigned of 2/17/2022, which was signed off a ************ judge. I recommend PPLSI take a second look at the attachments which show a time stamped response for my documents submitted on 2/4/2022 @ ****. Neither PPLSI's contract nor **** of rights go onto further define that a hearing date needs to be in ** number of days for the matter to qualify for time sensitive/urgent processing. Furthermore, my matter was not handled IAW the general processing guidelines as looking at the calendar 2/7/2022, 2/8/2022, and 2/9/2022 were all valid business days and I had not yet been referred in the afternoon hours on 2/10/2022, which would have been the 4th business day at a minimum. Regardless of the date the e-mail was received or processed, the attorney I spoke with at **** on 2/4/2022, had advised that I needed a referral for a local attorney to attend the hearing date. PPLSI cannot back out of a member's contract simply because the law firm doesn't have staff checking the e-mail inbox as the e-mail was indeed received by the law firm @ **** on 2/4/2022 as indicated in the attached automatic response.Lastly, I never informed PPLSI that I had retained an attorney. ******* law group had spoken with my husband on 2/10/2022, and he informed them that I had a consultation on 2/14/2022 to possibly retain an attorney. There is a difference between "retaining" and "going to retain on 2/14/2022". regardless of the choice of words my husband wouldn't have had the authority to "close/cancel" the referral I had requested for my sole legal matter of my son. ********************** should have spoken with me prior to canceling the referral process in the evening on 2/10/2022, as my husband doesn't have power of attorney to act on my behalf.As a result of PPLSI's breach of contract, I incurred $3,468.75 in additional legal fees since I was unable to utilize the 25% benefit guaranteed to me in the contract my husband and I have with PPLSI.

Again, PPLSI failed to address the fact that their own **** of rights doesnt state that the 8 business hour rule only applies to matters within the next ** days. They also, fail to acknowledge that it was the 4th business day, and several calls later before they even started the paperwork, so they failed to meet the terms of their contract regardless of which priority the case was given. Lastly, they didnt even address the legal fact that ******************** never mentioned about retaining an attorney, her husband did and the attorney was retained after the fact on 2/14/2022.

In July of 2021 I sign up with this company, who claimed to be able to represent me legally, for $25,00 a month. I had a legal issue, that I needed a lawyer to write a letter for me. I was given a phone number of their Boca Raton office and was told by the Boca Raton office that they can send me to a law firm that can help me. The law firm they sent me to, was not willing to do it and I had to run to 6-7 different lawyers, until I found one that was willing to write me the letter for a sum of $1500.00. I than called the Boca office and told them that I would like to cancel my membership, and the woman there accepted it, after I told her the reason. To my surprise, the head office continued to charge me the monthly fee of $25.00 for the past 7 months. I called them yesterday, and I was told that a phone call to the Boca office does not count, and I had to go to them and cancel in writing. They also told me that the Boca office is not really their office, just an affiliate. I was confused. The email I got in the beginning, referred me to the Boca Raton office, and now they are telling me that they are only an affiliate. I asked the supervisor at the head office (Sonia) to refund me the monthly charges, since January of this year and she said she is only able to refund me the last 2 months, Are you able to help me? (I was told it must have gone to spam).I dealt with the "Boca Raton office" in good faith, not knowing that they don't have the authority to cancel my membership. This associate did advice us, as to the head office rulls. The fact they are going to deal with it internally , does not help me. I belive that I deserve a full refund. (espicially, because the 1st represatitive at the head office that I was talking to told me that the Boca Raton office should have been able to write the letter for me, for no extra charge.)

I am rejecting this response because:The reason that I didn't cancel my service in writing to the head office, was because I called the Boca Raton office, which I was dealing with prior to it, and I was not told to send it in writing.
I didn't know anything about the contract, and I was told that since it was emailed to me, it might have gone to spam. How should I know, that I am supposed to get something, if no one tells me?
The only information that I got was a phone number to call, which ended up being the Boca Raton office. All my dealing went through them.

The agent who sold the legal shield plan to us sent an email on 3/10/22 to [email protected] requesting our cancellation. Its unfortunate that its gone on until the other day and that I have to go through the BBB to cancel my service. Its also a joke that we had to fill out that stupid form. Who makes anyone fill out a form to cancel?! Like what century are yall in? If i cancel my Amazon membership they dont ask for a paper form. If i cancel Netflix there is no form. **** if i cancel my health insurance or life insurance they dont ask for a stupid form. Sorry only a crooked company would take it to that extreme to make it difficult to cancel. But I am sure you work there an know your services are a waste of peoples money. I signed up for legal shield services, and would never imagine the horrible experience, incompetency and stupidity that transpired! When I spoke to the agent initially before signing up, he told me I would hear back from them within 48 hours. I signed up and paid the $29.95. Immediately I noticed something strange: I didn’t get even one email from legal shield—even now, 4 days later, no email what so ever. So I called the next day and Cassandra promised the request for membership is being processed and I will get an email by end of day. Sure enough even after 24 hours, I got no notifications or email about the payment or the status of my claim. Later in the evening, I spoke to hakim, and after an extended period of hold time came bk and said he doesn’t see any reason the membership wouldn’t be approved. He said I should be approved by the next day. The next day, which was Friday 7/15/22, no email, call, or notification what so ever. So I called and got Sheryl on the phone. She gave me the entire 10 digit membership number, which ended with #****. Sheryl said that in order to be able to use my new membership I need to be transferred to customer service. (and by the way, wasn’t Sheryl from customer service?) okay I get it: pure indifference and unwillingness to help.She transferred me to Esther. Esther put me on hold for 10 minutes. (you can see how strange and incompetent they are by now already). And now hold on tight: Esther came bk and said that my membership has been declined because of a payment issue. I begged her to explain what she means, but she couldn’t; she had zero info available. No email acknowledging a request for membership--at all? No obligation to behave ethically? No accountability to provide accurate info? How can a worthless company like this be allowed to supposedly provide a service? I am rejecting this response because:First of all, I never had any membership with you; u are making things up! moreover, why did you waste my time for 48 hours--when four of your agents kept telling me to hang in cuz it will be approved. They emphasized that they don't see any reason for me not being approved. casandra told me on July 14 that someone will call me bk that same day and give me my membership info. When I called bk later that evening, hakim said it should be approved by 15. Additionally, sheryl gave me the following new member ID on friday july 15 (**********). she said I still need to get more info before I can use it. but when she transferred me, the agent said that it was declined. does any of this make sense to you? why did everyone gave me misleading info? and why r u guys in business if you dont know what u r doing? why all the lies and manipulation? and wy wouldnt you even send one email to either confirm or at least acknowledge my email? whats the point of being so bitter and incompetent? can u explain what happened in 2019 that u r so upset?

The company induced an incorrect charge on my account. I called and requested payment of the error: they said the payment was mailed to me: it never was. They said they mailed a check but it went to the wrong address and their system showed the check HAD NOT been cashed and they would RE-issue a check. After this they failed to maintain contact or RE-address the issue after 3 further attempts. The amount is $300.Business Response
