I sold a vehicle to an ****** resident on January 3, 2021, and filed a report of sale with the ********** ********** of *************** The buyer of the vehicle did not register the vehicle in ******. The vehicle was towed in ************, on June 24, 2022, and was then auctioned off to the new buyer's mother, for less than the towing charges. I was sent a collections notice for the remaining balance. I sent proof of the sale, including the certified report of sale and the signed Bill of Sale, to retriever towing. Retriever towing agreed to settle the account for $350 to "make it go away", but threatened to send me to collections within 30 days. I paid the charges, but feel that this is predatory and an abuse of credit reporting.Business Response

Hello
We have responded to all of your requests and calls. We have explained to you that you would need proper paperwork to show you are the legal owner of the car. If you do not have proof of ownership we cannot release the car to you. If someone came to get your car because they said it was their car and had no paperwork showing proof of ownership and we give them the car, wouldnt that be the wrong thing to do? We have to follow a process and the paperwork showing proof of ownership is a must . Im sorry if you do not agree with that

I am rejecting this response because:
You have not answered all my questions and concerns about the matter if you would have I wouldnt be filling complaint here and with the city it would have been much easier and fast if your company was better trained or had better quality management willing to do their part all this running around is so you guys can continue to charge your $60 a day on top of the $440 for taking it to your lot this is all so you guys can self benefit If I could have received a simple courtesy phone call from a supervisor a manager, or simply had one pick up the call when I called the three times and asked for one. This couldve all been avoided. I explain to them all the paperwork I had proving that I was the owner you guys continue to deny giving me my vehicle if the paperwork I have is good enough for the ****** DMV Im not sure what puts you guys above a ***************Initial Complaint

My vehicle was towed the evening of 11-11-22. It was removed from my personal, paid for, reserved parking spot without my permission. The fee to retrieve my vehicle the next morning, less then 12 hours after it was towed was $695.94. Not only did they wrongfully take my vehicle, the cost to retrieve it was well beyond reasonable.Business Response

On the night or morning between 10/18/22-10/19/22 my girlfriends car was towed from Arbor Crossing condos. 3rd time in less than a year. Rules state The vehicle may not be parked in any visitor space for more than 4 (consecutive or otherwise) out of any 7 rolling calendar days. Each "day" is defined as being parked for any amount of time between 12 AM and 11:59 PM. Moving a vehicle to different visitor spaces during these 7 days would not restart this count. She was towed on the previous Monday on 10/10/2022 and parked in the complex on 10/15/2022 and got towed the night of 10/18/2022Retriever towing did not legally tow our car. They broke our rules and are just out to get toes absolutely ridiculous. They do document pictures and time stamps in the tow drivers phones, and I was shown by a driver and he told me Im not supposed to show you this but we take photos and have the date and time. They did not want to produce these photos for me. They said they are unable to contact a manager because they are a call center, they will not produce photos. I will be pursuing legal action on small claims. I encourage everybody reading this to take them to court because they are known for predatory towing.Business Response

My car was towed from the Audi dealership by Audi. I had an appointment which I was late bring my car to but, it was brought in the middle of the night by my AAA service. It was vandalized and broken into at that time and I accepted responsibility for that. However Audi contacted me the next morning and said they refused to work on my car-in its current condition(mind you, I didnt know what that was)because I was unaware of the car prowl. They never notified me of any of it. It wasnt until I was able to get to my car a day later before I figured it out. I then asked them to rewind the tape to see if they could tell me what had happened to my car that night. So , I made a police report online and asked them to be understanding of my situation, so officer could make a report. They had my car towed before they came and never notified me of it being towed. My car was not illegal parked or did it interfere with traffic as it were. Now I have almost $1000 tow fee and for weeks *** attempted to contact the management for the tow company and left my information and emailed them and they keep not responding to my attempts. I think that I should not have to pay for 3 weeks of storage fees because of their failure to contact me. When *** exhausted all efforts to communicate with them. I even requested a tow hearing and it was denied because it not being a city matter. For some reason I cannot get anyone other than dispatch on the phone from Retriever Towing. I even asked for them to waive the storage fees and only charge me the cost of the tow, since Ive been in contact with them since the very first day. And, I have the proof of correspondences. Now my car is supposed to be auctioned in 3 days. Im a veteran who was shot last year and Im waiting on my SSI to be approved. This has only made my situation worse and it was supposed to be the beginning of me regaining control of my life. I have a blood clot behind my left knee from getting shot. This has been so difficult.Initial Complaint

I received a letter from *************** Services a collections company saying I owe $596.11 to Retriever Towing. The date they are talking about is from 2019 over 3 years ago. They are stating a ***** Civic that was registered in my name was towed which I was never notified about it being towed and that it had been sold at auction years ago. When I got that letter years ago it had been auctioned and sold but never got anything saying it had been towed but I had called and told them I did not own that car anymore and had sold it prior to them towing it. The man I spoke to said ok your not responsible then and they had sold the car so they got there money anyway. After that I then notified DMV that I had sold it but they could only date it for the date I went in not prior but I did it anyway because I didnt want anything else to come from that car. So after thinking it was all over now 3 years later they are saying i owe them money. When I called and talked to Adina she told me they didnt have a collections system in place and now they do and so basically they are back tracking from years ago and sending people to collections for tows that before they had that system they would tell you ok your not responsible like I was told 3 years ago. So how can they now say randomly I owe them 3 years later? Also when I spoke to them they are saying the date i contacted DMV and released interest was after we towed it so I am responsible and thats what they are trying to use against me because after I got the letter from them saying it was auctioned and I called to say I didnt own it I then contacted DMV yes but I can also call my insurance and get the date I took the insurance off the car which was well before it was towed and the date I sold it. So basically now that they can send people to collections they are back tracking from years ago when they could not do that and just had to tell people ok your not responsible. Why 3 years later am I just now being sent to collectioInitial Complaint

On 8/13/2022 I was towed from the ***** Fargo building in Downtown ********. The parking spaces in front of the building have room for 3 cars to park, and there are two parking signs on either side. The parking sign on one end of the spaces said parking was allowed, and the sign on the other end of the spaces had a temporary "do not park" sign as they needed the spot on that end to do some construction. Since BOTH signs did NOT have the "do not park" sign, I parked in the space closer to the "parking allowed" sign. I even paid for the parking on Parking Kitty. When I came out 2 hours later my car was gone. I work in this building every day, and sometimes BOTH signs have a temporary "do not park" sign posted. Because only ONE side said do not park, it is not clear that my car should have been towed. I can see that being the case if both signs had this posted, but they did not. I had to pay $217 for the tow, and I was given an $85 parking ticket.I have tried to dispute this on the ****************'s hearing office many times, but each time I attempt to create an account, an error occurs and they ask me to contact the system admin. I've tried requesting a new account countless times, but I am out of emails to use. I've also tried contacting the system admin and have not heard back.Business Response

I am rejecting this response because:it was not a no-parking lot. It was the street parking in front of my work building, the ***** Fargo Tower. There are three spots out front, one of which had a temporary sign saying this spot only, no parking from xyz time to xyz time. I did not park in that spot, but in one of the other two spots available.I do not have photos because why would I take photos if I knew my parking was valid. I even paid for parking on the Pakring Kitty app. Why would I pay for parking if I thought I was in a no-parking lot?

Retriever Towing in Hillsboro took my car out of an apartment in ********* that was in a visitors spot. they claimed it was for "excessive overtime," but as per the *** agreement that is "more than four days out of 7." My car was in a visitors spot for 3 days out of 7. When we called them at 6:45am, we were told that we had to wait until 8am to make an appointment to pick up the car. At 8am, we were on hold for about 15 mins and then told that the earliest appointment was at 12:00pm. We were hung up on before we could schedule the appointment. We called back after being kept on hold again, and were told we could have an appointment at 11:30am which we took. At the 11:30 appointment we had a photo of the ****** which they wouldn't accept, then made us schedule another appointment, even tho i had the keys to the car. we then had to schedule another appointment which they continued to hang up on us. they wouldn't in the beginning give us the address of the yard that the car was kept at, and that was multiple calls before they would even ***** us the address. which is highly against the law! finally got another appointment at 3:00pm. $442.51 later i got my car back. I missed an entire day of work, an entire day of pay, in addition to that $442.51. in my opinion this amount could devastate a family that's car was wrongly taken in the first place. by law photos from them for every day parked they wouldn't provide. in my opinion this company should be shut down.Business Response

Retriever towing is trying to collect money from me for a car that was towed 2019 that was never owned by me or register on my name, they are attaching this car to my name based of a ******** messenger conversation from a person who wasnt even the register owner of the vehicle either, they claimed I need to go to the dmv and release all interest and ownership of the vehicle but the *** told me I cant do that because I have never owned that car or has never been register under my name. Under ****** law ORS ******* states that the registered owner shall be considered responsible and liable for the vehicle abandonment and the cost of its removal and disposition. Any auction/sale proceeds have been applied toward the costs associated with towing, storage, and other associated fees and you are responsible for the remaining balance, not me who was never owner or register owner of the vehicle!!
